Directions:

1. With your table-team, choose three (3) vignettes (chapters/sections) from our
novel, The House on Mango Street. Be sure to record the titles of your chosen
vignettes on your graphic organizer.

2. Select a speaker to read aloud, or read around your group, one vignette per
person. Practice active listening and pay close attention to your emotional
response as a reader. Make note of any words or phrases that strike you either
positively or negatively.

3. As a team, discuss each vignette and your reaction to it. Select the term you
think best describes each section depending on its connotation and write it in
the blank. Use the word bank below if you need ideas.

4. Decide on a specific quotation from the text that you believe best
encapsulates the mood of the vignette. Remember to include quotation
marks and cite the page number on which it is found.

5. Lastly, include at least three sentences of personal commentary explaining

your inferences and how you see your chosen quotation setting the vignette’s
overall mood.
