Introduction

GIMSCO (Gadjah Mada Indonesian Medical Science Olympiad) is the first national
Anatomy Olympiad in Indonesia, which is one of the biggest annual agenda held by
Medical Science Club, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada. GIMSCO has
been held since 2012 and consists of 3 main activities : Anatomy Olympiad, National
Seminar, and City Tour. In the City Tour session, all participants will be introduced to
local unique culture of Yogyakarta.

Per Angusta, Ad Augusta

Our tagline for GIMSCO 2017 is “Per Angusta Ad Augusta”, which means through
difficulties to honors. This year, GIMSCO is calling all of the best medical students
from all over Indonesia including Universitas Gadjah Mada to compete with each other.

What’s new in GIMSCO 2017?

GIMSCO 2017 is a transition to be an international event which is planned to be held in
2018. Therefore, English is the language of instruction during the competition in
GIMSCO 2017. All participants are required to answer the questions in competition
using either Latin or English language. This year, Universitas Gadjah Mada also joins
as participant in the competition. Even though there will be no National Seminar like
years before; GIMSCO 2017 is still offering pleasant city tour, fun games, and enchant-
ing cultural show to make GIMSCO 2017 a wonderful and memorable event. Challenge
yourself to be the best young Anatomist in Indonesia!

increasing from 10 – 100 along with the difficulty.
➢ A question will be displayed on screen.
➢ The team which presses the buzzer fastest can answer the question.

2
➢ Correct answer will be added to the team’s score, wrong answer will minus the
team’s score.
➢ Each team is given a chance to use helper “Final Effort” one time only in this
part. Using “Final Effort” will double the score for correct and wrong answer.
• Team with highest score from each division will be able to proceed to Grand Final (4
teams).
• Team with 2nd and 3rd highest score from each division will participate in Revival
Round (8 teams).

3. Revival Round

• The last team with most lives will proceed to Grand Final.

4. Grand Final
• Grand Final will be held after Revival Round on the same day.
• 5 teams (4 teams from Semifinal and 1 team from Revival Round) will compete on
stage.
• Questions must be answered orally for the whole round.
• Grand Final is consisted of 4 parts :
- Part 1: Picture Round
➢ Each team must choose 1 question set.
➢ Each set consists 6 question squares covering 1 picture.
➢ Correct answer will reveal the picture behind the squares.
➢ Wrong answer will darken the box and cannot be answered again.
➢ If a team can answer the structure pointed by arrow in the picture, they will
receive correct answer score AND bonus picture score.
➢ However, if a team cannot answer the structure pointed by arrow in the
picture correctly, they will only receive correct answer score.
➢ Team is given a chance to guess the picture 3 times for the whole round.
➢ Scoring system:

3
The amount of Correct Bonus
questions answer picture Total score (x +
answered score score [300/n])
correctly (n) (x) (300/n)
1 5 300/1 5 + (300/1) = 305

2 10 300/2 10 + (300/2) = 160

3 15 300/3 15 + (300/3) = 115

4 20 300/4 20 + (300/4) = 95

5 25 300/5 25 + (300/5) = 85

6 30 300/6 30 + (300/6) = 80

Example :

Team chooses to answer number 3 and the answer is correct

Team chooses to answer number 1 and the answer is correct

4
Team chooses to answer number 2, but the answer is wrong

Team chooses to answer number 4 and the answer is correct

5
The structure pointed by arrow is already visible; thefore, team can give the answer for the
picture (SUBSTANTIA NIGRA) .

If the answer for the picture is CORRECT  Team get 115 as their score (3 question boxes
answered correctly + bonus picture score)

If the answer for the picture is WRONG up to 3 times  Team get 15 as their score (only
3 question boxes answered correctly).

- Part 2 : Bidding
➢ 15 questions with short answer.
➢ Each team will be given 100 score at the start of Bidding Round.
➢ Scores from previous round cannot be used for bidding.
➢ Anatomical system of the question will appear on screen, and teams will be
given time to bid.
➢ The maximal bid allowed is half of the score owned by team and can only
be divisible by 5.
➢ Team with the highest bid has the right to answer the question.
➢ Correct answer will add the team’s score; wrong answer will minus the team’s
score as much as the bid.

- Part 3 : Category Round

➢ There will be 5 anatomical system question sets displayed on screen. Each set
consists of 5 questions and the scores are 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 respectively.
➢ Team with the lowest score from the previous rounds has the right to choose
the topic; however, after the question is opened, other teams can answer
the question by pressing the buzzer.
➢ Team which presses the buzzer fastest can answer the question.
➢ Correct answer will add the team’score, and the team with correct answer has
the right to choose the topic for next question.
➢ Wrong answer will minus the team’s score, and the same question can be
answered by other team up to 2 times.
➢ Example* :

Musculoskeletal Digestive Cardiovascular

System System System

10 10 10

Neurological Urogenital
System System

10 10
6
When the round starts, team A has the lowest score compared to the other teams;
therefore team A has the right to choose the topic to their advantage. Let’s say team A
chooses Cardiovascular System. The question will appear on screen. Before team A can press
the buzzer, team C already presses the buzzer first, so team C can answer the question. If
team C can answer the question correctly, the screen will turn to this :

Musculoskeletal Digestive Cardiovascular

System System System

10 10 20

Neurological Urogenital
System System

10 10

Team C can choose either to continue with Cardiovascular System or go with other
topics. Please note that after the question is opened, other teams can snatch the question!

If a team gives wrong answer, then other teams still can answer the question up to
2 times. If after 2 times there are no teams who can give correct answer then the question
will be disqualified.
*The topics used in the example may differ from actual competition.

- Part 4 : Bonus Round

➢ 25 questions in squares.
➢ Each team will be given a chance to choose a question and answer in order of
ABCDE, BCDEA, CDEAB, and so on.
➢ Correct answer will add 10 points to the team’s score, wrong answer will add
0 to the team’s score.
➢ Correct answer will be marked by team’s color.
➢ If a team can create a pattern from 3 squares then they will get 40 points as
bonus score. The only acceptable patterns are horizontal row, vertical row,
and diagonal row.
➢ If a team can create second pattern from 3 squares, they will get 100 points
as bonus score.
➢ There will be some mystery boxes you can use to your team’s advantage.
• Grand Final will determine the winner, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up, 3rd runner-up,
and 4th runner-up.
• The ranking is determined by the accumulation of scores from each round in Grand
Final.
