According Shirreff (2009) that drinking during exercise can enhance


performance, given that the exercise is of adequate duration for the drink to be
cleared from the stomach and absorbed in the intestine. Drinking plain water is
better, but drinking a properly formulated carbohydrate–electrolyte ‘sports’
drink can allow for even greater physical performance.
