Evaluation:
Course Work: Tests, Projects, Quizzes 50%
Assignments/Labs/HW 50%
Students will also write an in class exam worth 20% in preparation for the provincial
exam.

Tests and Quizzes

Tests and Quizzes will be given on a regular basis throughout this course. You will be
given at least two days notice before unit tests. Quizzes may be given at any time.
Truancy will result in a zero for all tests and quizzes. Missed tests and quizzes for
excused absences must be made up on the day that you return.

Homework
Homework is a regular component of this class. Not everything that I assign in class is
for marks, however, EVERYTHING I ASSIGN IS FOR LEARNING. This course
deals with some difficult concepts that require lost of PRACTICE. I don't hand out
much homework, so homework will be for marks when issued.

Labs
Lab work is a core component of the grade 10 program. It is through lab based
experience that you will develop an understanding of the materials in this course. Labs
will be designed to emphasize the scientific method and encourage critical and creative
thinking.

Classroom Expectations:
1. Based on mutual respect.
- Do not talk when I am talking.
- Do not talk when a classmate is talking to the whole class.
- Criticism should focus on the ideas not the person.
2. Raise your hand to provide answers and ask questions.
3. Food or drink is allowed, just not during lab time. YOU MUST CLEAN UP AFTER
YOURSELF
4. Come to class prepared for work each day. That means the student should be armed
with the proper textbook, a pen, pencil, note paper on which to write, and an agenda
book of some sort. If you have lost your school agenda book, make one out of note
paper and use it.
5. Come to class on time. You have adequate time to get to class. Don’t be late.

6. Find a buddy in the class who can be contacted in the event of an absence so that you
can get the missed assignment. You will be given an adequate amount of time to
complete the assignment.
7. Don’t make excuses. You need to take responsibility now that you are in a senior high
school. Nobody will do all the work for you, although we, as a staff are here to help
you get through the courses.

Required Materials:
 You will need a three ring binder for this course. You will be expected to keep
your notebook organized including a table of contents and topic page for each
major unit. The date and page number should be in the top right corner of
each page in your notebook. KEEPING ORGANIZED IS A HUGE STEP
TOWARDS SUCCESS IN THIS COURSE!
 Pens/pencils/Calculator/Ruler and your TEXTBOOK are required each class.

Good luck and have a great semester in Science 10. Please see me at any time for extra
help. I want your science 10 experience to be a successful one!
