LIMITED SPACE FOR READING CENTER

The main purpose of this project is to provide the students of Mariano Marcos State University-
College of Engineering an enough space and place to stay during their vacant periods.

The reading center of MMSU-COE doesn’t have enough space to accommodate many people. It
can’t accommodate all the students who have reading, reviewing, assignment and plate-making purposes
to do. Crowding the area will surely cause the students to stay out of focus of what they’re doing.

The reading center has 14 tables: two tables used for displaying landscapes and house designs,
two for the computers, one for the librarian, one table having a large dictionary and a logbook on it, and
the rest of it are for the students to use; 49 chairs, 4 computers, 3 bookshelves, 1 cabinet, 3 ceiling fans, 5
lightings, and 1 air-condition. The College of Engineering has 3018 students. With these numbers of
students, the reading center can’t accommodate all of them, even the half of the whole population of
COE.

This project will surely cover providing benches along the corridors.

The first step in maximizing an enough space for the reading center is to identify the number of
arcs in the building of the College of Engineering. The second step is canvassing how much a bench
would cost. The third step will involve the purchasing of several benches to be placed along the corridors.
Lastly, all the benches that will be purchased would be assembled and installed along the corridors; each
bench will be placed parallel to each arc.

The benches that are purchased will be placed along the corridors. All the benches will provide
the students a place to read, study, review their lessons, and even a place to spend their time during their
vacant periods.

Implementing the project will cover these following specific tasks:

 Canvassing the price of the benches.

 Purchasing the benches.
 Installing and assembling the benches.

The people who will install and assemble the benches are the ones from the shop where they were
bought. Installing and assembling the benches will require at least two to five workers. They must be
highly-skilled and know how to handle and assemble the benches properly.

The workers will use a delivery truck in order to transport all the purchased benches from their
shop to the College of Engineering. They will also need screwdrivers in tightening the screws of the
benches, and assembling it.

The overall expenses would be PHP 72,850.00, including the payment of the benches with a
wholesale 12% discount, the freight-in expenses and the estimated wages of the workers.

1 bench= PHP 2,000.00

40 bench x PHP 2,000.00/ 1 bench = PHP 80,000.00

12% Discount = PHP 9,600.00

Labor = PHP150.00/ person x 3 days x 5 workers= PHP 2,250.00

TOTAL Benches= PHP 70,400.00

TOTALLabor= PHP 2,250.00

+ TOTALFreight-in = PHP 200.00

TOTAL= PHP 72,850.00

The entire project would take seven days to be accomplished. Two days for canvassing the shops
and identifying which shop could offer the best product and price. And after that, there would be a
transaction and they will deliver the purchased benches the other day. Assembling and installing 40
benches would take three days to be done.

The problem that we presented is the limited space for the reading center. In conclusion to this,
our proposed project is to provide plastic benches in every arc of the College of Engineering to help the
students feel more comfortable during their vacant periods. The proposed project will take about seven
days to be implemented. Around PHP 72, 850.00 is the overall estimated expenses for the
implementation. Inclusion to this is the materials for the benches, freight-in, and the labor for the workers.

The person to be contacted in relation to this is the Department Head,(NAGAN NA JAK

AMMO!); our instructor, Miss Eufe Madariaga; and the implementers, Alleli Marcelino, Stephanie
Otico, and Venice Palilio.
