Freedom from
Captivity
Regions of Captivity
by Ana Mendez Ferrell

66
67
Captivity & the Cities in Ruins
• The goal of the devil:
– Take prisoners
– Subjugate
– Oppress
– Rob them of every gift of God
– Destroy them!
• Satan uses slavery
68
JESUS CAME TO SET THE CAPTIVES FREE

• The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because

the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings
to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the
brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the
captives, and the opening of the prison to those
who are bound. (Isaiah 61:1 NKJV).

70
• Not physical, but spiritual.
• Darkness is formed of millions of prisons

71
• I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness; I will
take hold of Your hand. I will keep You and will make
You to be a covenant for the people and a light for
the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free
captives from prison and to release from the
dungeon those who sit in darkness (Isaiah 42:6-7).
• …and free those who all their lives were held in
slavery by their fear of death (Hebrews 2:15).
72
• Captivity only for persons who have “social
problems.”
– Drug addicts, prostitutes, and alcoholics are not the
only ones

73
• Just because you gave up drinking does not mean
you aren’t still in prison
• The end of troubling behavior does not
necessarily indicate the end of captivity.
• Any person can be captive.

74
King David…

• Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise

Your name; the righteous shall surround me, for
You shall deal bountifully with me (Psalms 142:7
NKJV).

75
• This affects millions in their worship or everyday
functions
• Happy at church – but defeated as soon as they
leave!
• Millions of Christians cannot find breakthrough
– Health, character, and finances.
• Mountaintop to valley.
76
• Hear and pay attention, do not be arrogant, for the
Lord has spoken. Give glory to the Lord your God
…before your feet stumble on the darkening hills.
You hope for light, but He will turn it to thick
darkness and change it to deep gloom. But if you do
not listen, I will weep in secret because of your pride;
my eyes will weep bitterly, overflowing with tears,
because the Lord’s flock will be taken captive
(Jeremiah 13:15-17).
77
THE SOUL

• The soul and spirit are ultimately connected

– They can be fragmented
• Our souls define who we are as spiritual beings

79
• A single fragment of the soul is all that is
needed to capture us spiritually.
• The devil only needs a fragment

80
A parallel in the physical realm:
• DNA – the filing cabinet
of us!

81
• He must shatter the soul
– Circumstances causing
deep fear, trauma, or
acute pain.
– Participation in the occult
and sin.

82
Wholeness

83
Disappointment comes…

84
Fear…

85
Trauma…

86
Pain…

87
Tragedy…

88
Hopelessness…

89
• Judah - the human soul
• Jerusalem - the human spirit
– Let us go against Judah and harass and terrify it; and
let us cleave it a sunder [each of us taking a portion],
and set a [vassal] king in the midst of it, namely the
son of Tabeal (Isaiah 7:6 AMP).1

90
• Everyone has been a victim
• Everyone has been broken
– “I’m broken up”
– “They broke my heart”
• Captivity results in imprisonment
• Satan makes us “good for nothing” in that arena
91
King David wrote…

• For without cause they hid for me their net; a pit

of destruction without cause they dug for my life
[my soul]. … Lord, how long will You look on
[without action]? Rescue my life [my soul] from
their destructions, my dear and only life from the
lions! (Psalms 35:7, 17 AMP)

92
• The soul is like a city that can be destroyed.
• It must be rebuilt in order to function properly.

93
• But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood,
a holy nation [city], a people belonging to God,
that you may declare the praises of Him who
called you out of darkness into His wonderful
light (1 Peter 2:9).

94
• Our inner city becomes desolate and in ruins
• We need to begin a process of restoration and
deliverance.
• So the temple of God can be constructed within
• Demonic designs totally destroyed resulting in
total freedom
95
• This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, who formed
you in the womb: I am the Lord, who has made all things,
who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the
earth by Myself, who foils the signs of false prophets and
makes fools of diviners, who overthrows the learning of
the wise and turns it into nonsense, who carries out the
words of His servants and fulfills the predictions of His
messengers, who says of Jerusalem, “It shall be inhabited,”
of the towns of Judah, “They shall be built,” and of their
ruins, “I will restore them” (Isaiah 44:24-26).
96
• 1 John 3:8b
– For this purpose the Son of God was manifested,
that He might destroy the works of the devil.

97
• The work of Jesus - completely destroy the work
of the devil
• A process that does not end with the
announcement and acceptance of the Good
News of the Gospel.

98
• The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on Me, because
the Lord has anointed Me to preach good news to
the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the
brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners, to
proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of
vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion --
99
• To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of
ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a
garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They
will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the
Lord for the display of His splendor. They will rebuild
the ancient ruins and restore the places long
devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that
have been devastated for generations (Isaiah 61:1-
4).
100
• God wants to raise us up as kings
• Kingdom of God kings have shining cities
• No king is without a territory, abundant riches, or
authority
• Everything the king says is law

101
• As long as Tabeal governs:
– Part of each of our souls will be useless
– We will not be in control of our lives
– We will live with confusion, terror, sickness, and the
feeling that we are powerless to overcome

102
• And you will be called priests of the Lord, you will be
named ministers of our God. You will feed on the
wealth of nations, and in their riches you will
boast. Instead of their shame My people will
receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace
they will rejoice in their inheritance; and so they
will inherit a double portion in their land, and
everlasting joy will be theirs (Isaiah 61:6-7).
103
• “The gates of hell will not prevail against the
Church” (Matt. 16:18).
– Behind those gates are captive kings rendered useless
– Spiritual and material treasures are also held back
• God is raising a generation of men and women
– With understanding,
– With the anointing of Cyrus, to restore and raise kings
and set the prisoners free.
104
• Thus says the Lord to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right
hand I have held—to subdue nations before him and
loose the armor of kings, to open before him the double
doors, so that the gates will not be shut: “I will go before
you and make the crooked places straight; I will break in
pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron. I will
give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of
secret places, that you may know that I, the Lord, who call
you by your name, am the God of Israel” (Isaiah 45:1-3
NKJV).
105
• The soul that has been broken is going to be
tormented by everything it sees, feels, and hears
around it in the spiritual region of its captivity.
• They are trapped behind iron gates in regions of
captivity

106
• Captivities - strictly spiritual places controlled
by the hosts of satan
• Willpower is not enough to free souls from
these places
• We need God’s authority to move against the
forces of darkness
107
Reasons why a soul can be captive:
• Hell traps the just and the unjust
– Anyone can be exposed to traumas, spells, and spiritual
traps.
• When a patient is under anesthesia or when a soul becomes
heartbroken while visiting a cemetery, the person enters the
regions of death
– These regions can also be entered via
• the emotion of fear or
• by doing spiritual warfare with insufficient understanding
108
Another cause of exposure:

• Bringing the Gospel to enemy-controlled

territories without the laying of appropriate
spiritual groundwork
• Some are born into captivity

109
• They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the
places long devastated; they will renew the
ruined cities that have been devastated for
generations (Isaiah 61:4).

110
• Children born with autism are locked inside themselves in
a world assigned to them in spiritual regions.
• Other forms of captivity:
– Babies can become trapped when parents attempt abortion
– The fetus suffering the intense pain of a tormented mother
while in the womb can be held captive
• Many times these souls don’t want to be born because
they are already trapped in regions of death.

111
• Phobias
– Claustrophobia, agoraphobia, the fear of heights, the
fear of the dark, or anything else that scares us, have
to do with captivity of the soul
• The soul sees, feels, and hears everything that
surrounds it in the place where it is imprisoned

112
The Fear of Moths

114
The imprisoned soul:
• Can never totally develop
• Never go beyond a certain level
– Premature deaths can result
• Slavery to medicines or suffer destruction
without reason
• Others live from surgery to surgery
• Jesus already took captivity captive!
118
Spiritual Realms Revealed
• Spiritual places have nothing to do with
geography
• A different dimension
• Nevertheless they can affect or be over a region
– Jacob’s Ladder, or
– Regions Naphtali and Zebulon
• Jesus described as places of darkness and shadow of death
119
Most Christians are agreed:

• Hell is the eternal dwelling of the lost

– The deceased either go to Heaven or hell
– There is a lake of fire

120
The Scriptures speak…

• Of invisible dimensions that affect us

• Of regions of captivity, the way they operate, and
where they are found
– Light has now come!
– More revelation is to come!

121
Old Testament prophets:

• Ezekiel saw the temple of God and the Holy City

• Daniel was lifted between Heaven and earth
• Moses was taken to extraordinary dimensions

123
• God has prepared something even better for us
(Hebrews 11:40)
• The apostles understood this dimension
• They penetrated the Kingdom of God.
– The union of Heaven and earth was normal!

124
In the New Testament

• Philip – was translated (Acts 8:39-40)

• Paul – taken to the third heaven (2 Cor. 12:2)
• Peter – trance (Acts 10:11)
• John – received the Revelation (Rev 1)

125
The Story of Peter
• Acts 12:1-17
• 1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass
some from the church.
• 2 Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
• 3 And because he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to
seize Peter also. Now it was during the Days of Unleavened Bread.
• 4 So when he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him
to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before
the people after Passover.
• 5 Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to
God for him by the church.
126
The Story of Peter
• 6
And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was
sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards
before the door were keeping the prison.
• 7 Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in
the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying,
"Arise quickly!" And his chains fell off his hands.
• 8 Then the angel said to him, "Gird yourself and tie on your sandals";
and so he did. And he said to him, "Put on your garment and follow
me."
• 9 So he went out and followed him, and did not know that what was
done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.

127
The Story of Peter
• 10
When they were past the first and the second guard posts, they came
to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them of its own
accord; and they went out and went down one street, and immediately
the angel departed from him.
• 11 And when Peter had come to himself, he said, "Now I know for
certain that the Lord has sent His angel, and has delivered me from the
hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jewish people."
• 12 So, when he had considered this, he came to the house of Mary, the
mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered
together praying.
• 13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda
came to answer.
128
The Story of Peter
• 14
When she recognized Peter's voice, because of her gladness she did
not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood before
the gate.
• 15 But they said to her, "You are beside yourself!" Yet she kept insisting
that it was so. So they said, "It is his angel."
• 16 Now Peter continued knocking; and when they opened the door and
saw him, they were astonished.
• 17 But motioning to them with his hand to keep silent, he declared to
them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said,
"Go, tell these things to James and to the brethren." And he departed
and went to another place.

129
• Only a thin, transparent membrane separates us
from the Kingdom
• We can press through that membrane into the
heavenly realms
• It is done as a simple act of faith
• He becomes visible and audible and gives us great
revelations
132
The more we experience Heaven
and are used to inhabiting its reality,
the greater revelations we will have,
even about the secret places of our enemy.

133
• John saw spiritual regions
– “the sea.” Revelation 13
• Not an ocean on earth -- a spiritual ocean
– “the desert” – Revelation 17
• Where satan governs from Babylon

134
The Desert

• A habitation of demons
• Hideout of every unclean spirits
• Lodging of every unclean and abominable bird
(Rev 18:20, Rev 17: 1, 3)

135
Jesus taught…

• That demons inhabit dry, desert places

– When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes
through arid places seeking rest and does not find it
(Matthew 12:43).

137
Abaddon

• “the Abyss” - where satan is imprisoned a

thousand years (Rev 9:1-2, 11)
• Both the name of the angel and of the place
• These places are active places around us
– Thousands of souls are held captive

138
3 Locales after death:

• The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and

death and Sheol gave up the dead that were in
them, and each person was judged according to
what he had done. Then death and Sheol were
thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the
second death (Revelation 20:13-14).

142
• The dead in the sea not those who have
drowned or were eaten by sharks
– Otherwise: “the sea gave up its dead and the earth
gave up those who were within it.”
– Doesn’t mention “the earth,” only the sea, death, and
Sheol

143
Jesus came…
• To make Heaven a visible, audible, and palpable
reality
• Everyone can have visions of the Kingdom of God
• The Lord will reveal places of captivity to them:
…having made known to us the mystery of His will,
according to His good pleasure which He purposed in
Himself, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times
He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both
which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him
(Ephesians 1:9-10 NKJV). 144
Simon the magician…
– Had accepted the Lord
– Was a baptized Christian
– Active in his local church
– Had never been set free
– His mind was captured in the spiritual world
• He tried to buy the gift of the Holy Spirit
– In witchcraft -- customary to buy “spiritual services”
145
Peter rebuked him sharply
• Peter said to him, Destruction overtake your money and
you, because you imagined you could obtain the [free] gift
of God with money! You have neither part nor lot in this
matter, for your heart is all wrong in God’s sight [it is not
straightforward or right or true before God]. So repent of
this depravity and wickedness of yours and pray to the
Lord that, if possible, this contriving thought and purpose
of your heart may be removed and disregarded and
forgiven you. For I see that you are in the gall of
bitterness and in a bond forged by iniquity [to fetter
souls] (Acts 8:20-23 AMP). 146
A Trance…

• A vision in which one experiences the event in

the spiritual world
– Like being in a movie theater watching a film and
suddenly jumping into the movie
– You are totally conscious

147
• The spirit of the prophet is subject to the prophet
(1 Cor. 14:32).
– The prophet can stop the experience voluntarily and
is able to communicate with others who are having
the same experience in the room (in the case of what
is called a corporate vision).
– A vision -- a manifestation of the gifts of prophecy
and word of knowledge.
148
• Father, I thank you that I am learning to access
the realms of Heaven and today, by faith I step in
to Your realm where I am one with you.
