THE CALLING

OF ABRAM
The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your

relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will

make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you

will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who

treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”

So Abram departed as the LORD had instructed, and Lot went with him.

The next verses told us that when they arrived in Canaan, Abram

traveled through the land as far as Shechem and at that time, the area was

inhabited by Canaanites. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give

this land to your descendants.” And Abram built an altar there and dedicated

it to the LORD. Abram took Lord’s promise. He believed in God’s promise that

that land would be given to him though what he saw with his own eyes was

that the land was in the power of Canaanites.

Then it was also written that severe famine strucked the land where he

was so he had to go to Egypt to get food. But here I just realized he didn’t blame

on God for the famine. God was the One who instructed Abram to go to this

land, then there happened a famine. A severe one. He found out how to solve

the problem by going to Egypt without blaming on God at all. Wow.
