Universal Design for Learning (UDL): In this lesson the students have the opportunity to watch an animated
video as many times as they need to before moving forward. The content can be represented in different
ways, such as by the teacher or through the video. The students get to act and express by taking the quiz as
well as using the other features and materials offered through Brainpop. The students also have engagement
by being student directed and having different options on the software to keep their interest.

Lesson idea implementation: The teacher will be begin by reviewing the parts of speech with the students
before showing the movie. The lesson will be introduced during grammar time. This lesson overall should take
about 15-20 minutes, then followed by unlimited time for students to use the software.
The software will assess the students learning, but also the teacher can provide their own assessment at the
end. Students taking a self-directed learning approach instead of direct instruction will differentiate learning.
Lesson will be concluded by the students completing an assessment given by the teacher, such as a ticket out
the door. Students will receive immediate feedback through the software but also from the teacher.

Reflective Practice: The level of engagement and Bloom’s levels being reached that they have a higher
interest during learning and overall obtain more information could impact student learning. The lesson can be
furthered by having the students do more with parts of speech, such as create their own game about parts of
speech. Instructional games would be very beneficial to this lesson.
