Facts
• Material build-up in IDfan impeller is a common problem in
cement plants
• It causes production rate loss and later kiln stoppage
• Manual cleaning of impeller is hard and considered a high risk
activity

Situation in Bulacan Plant
• We were nursing IDFan vibration last February and March
2013
• Production loss was incurred due to reduced IDFan speed to
control vibration (speed was reduced from 92% to 80%)

Initiative to do on-line cleaning of impeller
• Last April 5, 2013, our action was we injected clinker granules
and clinker dust at kiln IDFan inlet duct

• April 6, 2013, IDfan Vibration was reduced from 8.8mm/sec to


1.3mm/sec

Procedure
• Get two types of clinker
f 5 pails of clinker granules (coarse), about 5-15mm. Taken from
pan conveyor
f 5 pails of clinker dust (fine), about 0.5mm. Taken from clinker dust
transport

• Haul clinker to preheater (injection point)


• Inject coarse clinker at inlet duct (measure vibration)
• Inject fine clinker at inlet duct (measure vibration)
• Repeat process until vibration level is acceptable

Next Step

• Establish frequency of cleaning of IDFan using clinker dust


• Install feeding bin (small funnel) at clinker injection point
