4. Why should we adopt a "host" or “post heroic” leadership philosophy to student leadership at
SJAM and specifically in this class? (1 paragraph/ .5 page)
I feel that SJAM would benefit greatly by adapting host leadership into student leadership within the
school because it would allow us to divide up responsibilities when organizing events which would aid
towards the set up of a good environment for other students in the school. By adapting this type of
leadership, we as student leaders would be the “hosts” and would be able to offer support to others
while also relying on the guests to be apart of any event and do their part to support it. By having this
type of environment it would make students feel more involved in the events that take place here at
SJAM which may increase the overall participation. As we learned in the video, those that are directly
involved in something tend to be more willinging to contribute to it because it is something they have
played a part in creating. Having this “host” leadership philosophy would also allow students to voice
their opinion because the top of student leadership would not hold all the power which would create a
better sense of belonging among the SJAM community.
