Secondary Injection
Notes: Operating current should be approximately 11mA dc for Solkor R. With local injection the
remote relay, if correctly connected to the pilots, should operate at approximately double the setting of
the local relay. If not correctly connected, both relay currents will be approximately equal. Secondary
fault setting includes CT magnetising current and pilot capacitance. Normally, capacitance below
2.5µF will not alter values appreciably.
For Solkor Rf the operating current is approximately 11mA dc at both ends when injected at one end.

Balance tests to prove that local and remote groups of CTs are correctly connected relative to each
other.
When three-phase injection is available tests should be carried out in the manner set down in the
Operation and Stability Tests section, the results being recorded in the Operation and Stability Tests
table with appropriate cross-reference.
Note, in many cases overall primary injection will be impracticable, in which case the correctness of
interconnections is to be established by using the method detailed in the Operation and Stability
Tests section.
Using single phase primary injection, simulate single phase earth fault conditions at the local end
only. Measure and record the currents at which local and remote relays operate.

These tests are to be carried out under the direct supervision of the Commissioning Engineer.
Notes - this test will produce a tripping condition.
The load current should preferably be equivalent to at least 50% of the relay rating. If this is not
practicable, a reduced load is acceptable, but it may then only be possible to measure the operating
element current and not to indicate whether the relay operated or remained stable. Where it is not
practical to carry out load tests, then for short feeders check the stability by primary injection.
These tests simulate 'through' or 'in-zone' fault conditions by unbalancing the current inputs to the
protection at each end, using the method of shorting and disconnecting individual CT secondary
windings from the relay inputs. Incompatible phase colour connections at the two ends will therefore
be detected by unexpected operation or unusually high operating-element currents.
Short and disconnect Solkor CTs not in use for each test, eg for R-N, short and disconnect Y & B
CTs .
