(9) Significance
This study is important because of the techniques in the teaching learning situation at present
is the application of technology. In lesson presentation, more teacher presents the subject
matter, the tasks, and the exercises through power point. Likewise, the pupils perform their
home works and activities using the computers , hence , basic literacy on its use is a
requirement for both teaching and learning processes. Through this study , the pupils along
the coastal areas will be benefited in the process because they will be given instructions on its
use. In the school, these may be limited opportunities for them to develop their literacy due to
voluminous works of their teachers or there could be no technician and computer staff who
may teach them.
This study is also beneficial for their teachers because once they give activities to their
pupils requiring the use of computers, the pupils are independent of manual instructions
,hence, becomes a lighter job for the teachers.
For the school administrators, they will realize that most pupils are still incapable of
using the computers in the enhancement of their knowledge in performing activities with the
use of computers. This could be a way of strengthening computer literacy program in
respective school.
For the pupils residing in the coastal barangays, they have limited access to using
computer in shops and cafes hence, this is their great opportunity to learn the basic in
technology.

9-A) Project Description:

This is a survey project knowing the literacy level of the grades 5 and 6 pupils in the Santa Cruz
North District. The use of technology in terms of simple turning on the machines ,information about
the Microsoft, uses of the program, and performing simple exercises. After making an assessment on
the level of pupils literacy, an extension program will be proposed to deliver instruction to the
pupils.
(10) Objectives
This particular research study aims to know the following:

1. What is the level of computer basic literacy among the grade 5 and 6 pupils in the
schools located along the coastal areas
2. What are the difficulties of the intermediate pupils in the making of computer related activities
3. What interventions could be proposed to address these difficulties?
11) Review of Literature:

This research proposal identifies the veracity of the study through published theories and concepts of

researchers and other authors of similar interests. There are many cognitive abilities that adults take for

granted. For the young children, however, those abilities/ skills must develop over a long period of time. As

Piaget argued that some abilities cannot be taught directly, rather they are the result of maturation, a lot of

general experiences, learning, and from others (social transmission).

Marcia Sharp (2010) on his study “Development of an Instrument to Measure Student’s Perceptions of
Information Technology Fluency Skills : Establishing Content Validity”. Stated that student fluency skills
based on their contemporary skills, foundational concepts and intellectual capabilities resulted that the over
all performance of students in using technology yielded a higher validity index.
Nancy Sardone (2011) conducted a study on “Developing Information Technology” (IT) Fluency in College
Students: An Investigation of Learning Environments and Learners Charcteristics”. Using a casual-
comparative research method, data from 120 undergraduate students studying computer concepts were
analyzed to determine the relationship between learning environment, IT fluency and course satisfaction.
Jazlin Ebenezer and et all, (2011) conducted a study titled “One Science Teacher’s Professional
Development Experience: A Case Study Exploring Changes in Students’ Perceptions of their Fluency with
Innovative Technologies”.
Raffedali (2009) studied “Computer Based Technology and its Pedagogical Utility.”
Ula Bunz (2004) conducted a study titled “The Computer email-Web (CEW) Fluency Scale-Development
and Validation”.

12) Scientific Basis/Theoretical Framework

Bandura (1990) as cited by Lucas (2014) considered general principles of social learning

theory as follows: People can learn by observing the beahavior of others and the outcomes of

those behaviors; Learning can occur without a change in behavior. Behaviorists say that

learning has to be represented by a permanent change in behavior; in contrast social learning

theorist say that because people can learn through observation alone, their learning may not
necessarily be shown in their performance.

13) Methodology

This part presents the research design, research locale, and research instruments for the data collection.

The study under investigation will use the descriptive quantitative research. The analysis will focus in

identifying the skills of the grades 5 and 6 pupils in using computers for school related activities. To

supplement the data gathered, interview with the teachers of the respondents will be conducted. The

responses of the respondents will serve to justify the results of the study. Further, data will be analyzed

quantitatively.

Research Locale

The study will be conducted in the Santa Cruz North District. Further, the selection of the research locale was

based on the researcher concerns of knowing the skills of young mellenials in using computers to perform

school related simple paper works.

14) Major Activities/Work Plan

This research proposal to be conducted will undergo the following activities and workplace.
First, the researcher will be conducting interview from the teachers of the respondents. After that
distribution of questionnaire will follow. Then, retrieval, tabulation, and interpretation of results will
compose the last parts.

Activities Duration/ Time Frame Persons involved

interpretation of data
Faculty, BEED
 Research Instrument
Since, the purpose of the study is to know the skills of the intermediate level in the use of
computer. Self-made questionnaire will be administered. The questionnaire has two parts: the first
part contains the profile of the respondents as their name, age, school; the second part consists of the
literacy of the learners in the use of computer.
In addition, the researcher will conduct interview with the teachers, to get firsthand information on
the level of skills of their pupils.

15) Expected Outputs

Once the study is already realized and conducted, the School of Education
particularly the BEED program will be conducting an extension program to address
the needs of the respondents.

16) Target Beneficiaries

The target beneficiaries of this study will be the intermediate public school pupils, and teachers from the

different schools of Santa Cruz North District.

17) Personnel Requirement
