What is a Culture Bound Syndrome (CBS)?
● Unique “condition” found within a certain culture or region
● Not recognized or seen by other cultures
● 25 recognized by DSM-5

● Seen in two groups:
1. Spanish identifying persons living in US
2. Latino identifying persons living in or originating from the Caribbean Islands
● Mostly seen in women over the age of 45
● Uncontrollable shouting, crying, heat rising to head
○ Suicidal gestures, seizures, fainting
● Similar symptoms to a panic attack
Taijin Kyofusho
● Found only in Japan
● Fear that one's face or presence is offending to others
○ False assumption
● Similar symptoms to social anxiety
