Ready to Wear (Women’s Wear)
Mihiri de Silva
Mihiri's designs are based on employing waste materials and components
from the apparel industry in Sri Lanka and this year she successfully launched
her ethical fashion label R.E.D ‐ Re Engineered Design. A holistic approach to
ethics, manufacture, and forward‐thinking design which blends all elements of
sustainability while refusing to comprise on style.
Kasuni Rathnasuriya
Kasuni’s label KUR incorporates Sri Lankan Beeralu lace in her
designs bringing about a sense of freedom and serenity to the label.
The designs cater to customers who know the value of traditional
arts and craftsmanship including those who are ethically conscious.
KUR continues to revitalize a dying craft in Sri Lanka while helping
village women to become economically independent.
Kanchana Thalpawila
With over 20 years of fashion experience behind her, Kanchana
launched her own label “KT Brown”. Kanchana works primarily with
indigenous weavers, who have managed to keep their traditions alive
through some very challenging times. Kanchana’s signature style
revolves around uncut clothing, using minimum seams to reduce
wastage of fabric.
Anupama Nawalage
Anupama owns and is the designer of 90F, which produces
high quality hand woven and handmade products. The
collection is inspired by the craft of “Dumbara handloom
weaving” practiced by the traditional handloom weavers at the
hill capital of Sri Lanka who got an amazing craft skill. Motifs
they use consists of unique
geometric forms, shapes,
patterns add graphical
formations.
Lonali Rodrigo
Lonali is being recognized as an outstanding student experimenting in creating
textures and employing the use of vibrant colours in her designs. Her designs
reflect her energy and passion through the funky, junky and radical looks. She
employs traditional methods, cottage industries, recycling and use
of environmental friendly resources in her collection.
Lingerie
Charini Suriyage
Charini joined apparel giant MAS Holdings and was seconded to undergo training with
acclaimed designer Carol Maloney in the United States and subsequently with Limited
Inc New York. She worked with MAS Intimates UK in London designing lingerie for
M&S. Her outer wear label “The concept studio” embodies local hand woven fabrics
and crafts mixed with locally sourced materials infusing tradition with contemporary
design.
Kaushalya Piyasiri
Kaushalya’s designs are classic, sophisticated and are created for a niche market
that is socially and environmentally aware. Her early artistic flare and desire for
fashion inspired her career as a fashion designer. Kaushalya has over 10 years of
experience in the apparel Industry and is currently a design manager at MAS
Intimates servicing some of the premiers in intimates around the world.
Gothmi Ediriweera
Gothmi’s, lingerie collection, “Eco Glam collection”, creatively unites her skill as a
designer and as an environmental conscious person. This collection serves as the
solution to discarded material of apparel industry, giving them elegance and a longer
life span. Her inspiration remains to deliver “greener” lingerie without guilt.
Cheynelle Mendis
Cheynelle’s lingerie collection, Elevated Bohemia, uses remnants of sari fabric
from tailors, sari shops and discarded saris. She combines her extensive
knowledge in intimate wear with her passion for the planet through using these
discarded sari material. The cottons, chiffons and silks in their decorative
trimmings are ideal for sensual lingerie.
