Introduction

Meanwhile, pollution is causing our environment deplete. Many waste are hard to

dispose, just like the Styrofoam. The non-biodegradable material that is thrown everywhere can

cause pollution in land and water. Oyster is best in our locality as food delicacy, and only the

meat is eaten. Oyster shell is abundant of calcium carbonate (CaO). This study we can make our

own tiles. We can earn money from this study. It is easy to make and the materials is easy to

find.
Research Objectives

This study aims to:

1. know if Styrofoam and powdered oyster shell can be used as tiles;

2. compare the researcher-made tiles from the commercial tiles; and

3. determine the relationship between researcher-made tiles and commercial tiles.

Statement of the Problem

1. Can Styrofoam and powdered oyster shell be used as tiles?

2. Is there a significant difference between the researcher-made tiles and commercial tiles?

3. Is there a relationship between the researcher-made tiles and commercial tiles?

Hypothesis

1. There is a significant difference between the researcher-made tiles and commercial tiles.

2. There is a relationship between the researcher-made tiles and commercial tiles.

 Conceptual Framework

This study entitled “Styrofoam and Powdered Oyster Shell as Tiles” intends to produce

an alternative ways in producing tiles.

A background of the study our country is facing in economic crisis. Financial

is the main problem of the Filipino family. People tend to budget their money wisely, it is

because of the expensive foods, clothing materials, and etc. Waste materials like Styrofoam is

scattered everywhere. Oyster shell is abundant of calcium carbonate (CaO). Only the meat of

oyster shell is eaten and the shell is thrown away. Styrofoam and powdered oyster shell is best

source of tiles. So the researcher’s wants to determine if dissolved Styrofoam and powdered

oyster shell can be good component in making tiles. Styrofoam will be obtained from

neighbourhood and restaurants were it was used for food packaging. The collective Styrofoam

will be wash and leave for drying. The powdered oyster shell and Styrofoam will be dissolved to

1L. of premium gas. This study can minimize waste in this country particularly the non-

biodegradable ones, which disposed everywhere. If this study is more comparable to

commercial tiles then we can save money and it can reduce Styrofoam in our country. People

tend to throw or disposed these Styrofoam in rivers, lakes, and seas, which causes water

pollution. Oysters are very abundant to our locality, which are highly valued as delicacy.

Styrofoam and powdered oyster shell can be used as alternative source of tiles.
Scope and Delimitation

This study entitled “Styrofoam and Powdered Oyster Shell as Tiles” is limited only to the

following:

1. Architect- Because they can use this in designing houses or buildings.

2. Schools- Because they can use this for their rooms or buildings.

3. Residents- Because they can use this in their floor.

4. Subdivisions- Because they can use this in their houses to build.

5. Restaurants- Because they can use this for making their restaurants wonderful and the

costumers will be comfortable.

Definition of Terms

The following terms are conceptually and operationally defined:

1. Tiles. It is conceptually defines as square or rectangular in shape. Tile is a

manufactured piece of hard-wearing material such as ceramic, stone, metal, baked

clay, or even glass, generally used for covering roofs, floors, walls, or other objects

such as tabletops.

It is operationally define as a square or rectangular in shape. Also it can be used in

designing your houses.

2. Styrofoam. It is conceptually define as a type of polystyrene (a type of plastic) foam

that's light yet strong. It's often used to make take-out coffee cups and packing

materials.

It is operationally define as a packaging material.

3. Oyster. It is conceptually define as a various marine bivalve mollusks (family

Ostreidae) that have a rough irregular shell closed by a single adductor muscle and

include commercially important shellfish.

It is operationally define as a food delicacy in our locality.

Significance of the Study

This study entitled “Styrofoam and Powdered Oyster Shell as Tiles” is deemed important

to the following persons:

1. Architect- Because tiles can be used in making houses.

2. Schools- Because tiles is best in flooring of their rooms.

3. Residents- Because tiles is good for our houses.

4. Subdivisions- Because tiles is good in making their houses more costumers to live in.

5. Restaurants- Because tiles is best in flooring or designing their restaurant.
