PERFORMANCE STANDARDS The learner writes a 250-word essay of his/her objective observation and evaluation of the various speakers watched and listened to

TIME ALLOTMENT 1 hour


LESSON OUTLINE:
During the lesson, the learners will:
1. Distinguish the 4 Functions of communication
2. Identify the speakers purpose in various communication situation
3. Evaluate if communication strategy is effective.

Introduction: Asking an essential question that will lead the students to the topic.
Motivation: Through 4 pics one-word game.
Instruction/Delivery: The teacher requires the students to form groupings that will show the functions of communication
Practice: The students will prepare a script of a given scenario.
Enrichment: As a performance check the class (divided into 4 groups) will be asked to act out roles from a given real life scenario. The rest of the group will evaluate the role
play by identifying the functions of communication, the speakers purpose and the verbal and non-verbal cues to achieve the purpose.
Evaluation: Write a 250-word essay about the topic

PROCEDURE MEETING THE LEARNERS’ TIME ALLOTMENT


NEEDS

INTRODUCTION
5 mins
The teacher will introduce an essential question to the students. For ex. Why do you communicate? Why is there
a need for you to know the functions of communication?

Articulate the competencies to be developed.

MOTIVATION PICTURES

The teacher will present 4 PICS ONE WORD GAME that will enable the students to identify what
is meaning of the pictures pertaining to: functions of communication.

INSTRUCTION/DELIVERY
In group of five, the students will analyze a given comic strip/webtoon where they will identify COMIC STRIP
the purpose(s) of the speakers and the functions of communication. After the activity the teacher will (MODELING) 20 mins
conduct a lecture and discussion about the functions of communication.

By pair the students will be asked to watch video clips of different scenarios and have them VIDEO CLIP
ascertain the verbal and non-verbal cues used by the speaker to achieve his/her purpose. The teacher (ANALYSIS)
will facilitate students answers and will provide an input using PowerPoint presentation about the
topic.

Using the same pair they will analyze a webtoon where the students will comprehend various kinds of oral WEBTOON
texts and identify strategies used by each speaker to convey his/her ideas effectively. (ORAL ANALYSIS)

PRACTICE WRITE UP WEBTOON


The students will write a draft analysis about the webtoon that they have watched. ANALYSIS 10 mins
ENRICHMENT FINALIZED WEBTOON
The students will finalize the draft analysis of the webtoon. ANALYSIS 5 mins

EVALUATION

The class will be asked to write a one paragraph essay (250 words) about the objective observation 1 PARAGRAPH ESSAY 5 mins
and evaluation of the various speakers they watched and listened to. (this will be contextualized (evaluating a speaker in a certain
based on the student’s strand) scenario)
