My name is Stephanie Pacheco and i’ll be writing my essay about the LGBTQ+
community. The LGBTQ+ community holds a special place in my heart for being such a
powerful group of people. The LGBTQ+ is not only a community, but can be used as an
adjective to describe someone or something. The LGBTQ+ stands in the idealology that
homosexuals, transgenders, bisexuals, etc, should have the same right, and treatment as
everyone else.
Being appart of the LGBTQ+ community, i find this topic to be very interesting. The
majority of my friends are either pro-LGBTQ+ or are appart of the LGBTQ+. We feel that
there are problems in society that are just confusing and difficult to wrap our heads around.
Questions such as, “Why is it ‘gross’ for two gay men to hold hands, but ‘sexy’ for two
women to be intimate with each other?” and “Why do people hate others for something they
cannot change?”. Society has to constantly put down a group of people. Some examples
include: Women, African Americans, Hispanics, and now, the LGBTQ+ community.
When the LGBTQ+ is brought up in a conversation, you might never hear someone
say that it can change the entire world. But if we learn to accept people for their differences,
we can put this issue aside and focus on things that will be revolutionary. An open minded
world will be more peaceful and accepting. We are so close but so far away. Instead of
turning a blind eye, we need more politicians to be accepting. Politicians need to be more
open minded to more things besides sexual orientation as well. This article d
iscusses how
Trump’s favor for Christianity leads into his contradictory act of banning Muslims.
The leaders we have make a big impact and we need better representation. An
article discusses an act that any child born out of the U.S must have birth parents that are
U.S citizens. The article states, “This changed nothing for heterosexual married couples.
Passport applications don’t ask if a child was conceived with the help of a sperm or egg
donor, which may cut the biological tie between the child and the American parent.”, then
states, “But same-sex couples stand out, and the State Department isn’t willing to apply the
same assumption of parentage to them.”. This artcile tells us how the act is different when
we look at heterosexual couples, and then homosexual couples.
All religion in America is equal, one no better than the other. A
tweet i found states,
“...“hey that’s against my religion so I can’t do that” NOT “hey that’s against my religion so
YOU can’t do that.””, this tweet was from @lauretiee on twitter.com. S o when people use
religion to explain why they don't support the LGBTQ+, it would not be a logical choice. Just
because your religion says that a certain group of people should be punished, does not give
you the right to be against them. No view can be held over another, and everyone gets to
express their religion. Now, not all Christians are like this. What turns people against the
LGBTQ+ is the small amount that convinces people that their god told them too. It's not their
fault that they have been raised or told that homosexuals, transgenders, etc, are lesser than
heterosexuals. People like this are a victim to other’s ideas and we must show compassion
and sympathy if we want to make the world a better place.
This video on youtube gives a pretty good summary of my reasoning. Mainly the first
few minutes. People shouldnt be discriminated based on who they were born as. African
American, Hispanic, LGBTQ+, or Muslim, we all deserve the same treatment as everyone
else. If more attention was brought to this issue, we can make our world a better place. So,
what im trying to say is, we need more open mindedness and acceptance to progress as the
human race.
I think the people who are against LGBTQ+ hold stereotypical views towards the
group. I know of a person who is against the LGBTQ+, they explain how the LGBTQ+ is very
dramatic and that they blow things out of proportion. Some other things i observed about
the behavoir is that they see homosexuals and transgenders (mainly homosexuals) as
people who hurt them or people they love.
They also seem to use the bible as a reason to hate. God also told them to not pierce
or mark their bodies, these people just pick and choose what parts of the bible to follow.
“You are the sons of the Lord your God. You shall not cut yourselves or make any baldness
on your foreheads for the dead.” -Deuteronomy 14:1. Some other arguments are that the
LGBTQ+ is radical and over expressive. I don't really see this behavior in the LGBTQ+, if
being proud of yourself is over expressive then i don't see anything wrong with it. People of
the LGBTQ+ don't tell every person how gay they are, they act like normal people and only
let people know if it is necessary. For example, my big brother is just like any other person,
he is just like every other human being, the only thing different is that he likes males.
People who don't support the LGBTQ+ are not evil, horrible people. They were just
raised differently, under different ideas. We shouldnt attack these people because everyone
has the right to thier own opinion, but asking questions can really change things like this.
When we bring these conversations up, we can all learn to see that there isnt anything
wrong with being different. Why is this such a big deal? How can this affect you? We all
want the next generation to be better than the last, we need to keep improving as a species.
Acceptance and love for one another can go a long way. Support people who are getting
put down, give a compliment, let someone know how important they are, these are just
some things we can do to open people’s heart and mind.
