Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The cards in the game have images included with the words the students are working with. This allows
them to have a visual reference to assist in determining meaning and use of the words. This also helps
students who may be learning English have a more universal representation of the words in front of them.
This is also a great way to support comprehension. Students can access this technology at home, allowing
them more time to practice what they are working with in class at home.

Instructional Software
The BrainPOP video will be used to get students thinking about grammar. The teacher will then lead in a
discussion with the students to make sure that outstanding questions are answered and clarified. Students
will be asked to identify examples of adjectives and adverbs. After this group activity is completed, students
will be given access to the class laptop cart and will sign into BrainPOP. They will navigate to this activity and
complete the task.
The activity records the student answers and reports them to the teacher for evaluation. A leader board
might be created to encourage the students. At home or free time practice would be encouraged so that
students could gain more practice with the material. After some more work with the material has been
completed the activity could be completed once again to see if students have made improvements. A new
leader board could be created to show the growth. Students would be asked to compare their results to see
their progress.
Reflective Practice:
Extending this project might have students creating an interactive reference book. These books would be
colorful and completed together to ensure accuracy, however, students could choose different activities they
would like to feature in their books.
Students could ask their peers to complete their book’s games as a way to share their work and to gain
more practice with the material.
