CHAPTER 1-INTRODUCTION
1.1 Industry Overview
India has booming population & crowded localities and unplanned growth which has always been a
city with heavy fire risk. The risk has now been further increased with the expansion of industries
and construction of high-rise buildings in major cities. Many of the high-rise buildings have not yet
installed adequate fire safety systems which is considered to be very essential for safety. According
to NCRB, a total of 18,450 cases of fire accidents were reported in India in 2015, an average of 62
deaths per day in the last 5 years, with 1,193 persons injured and 17,700 killed. The cause-wise
analysis of fire accidents concluded that 42.1% of deaths were due to fire accidents in residential
buildings. Huge sums of money are given out as compensation after the accidents which causes huge
losses all around.

According to ‘India Fire Safety Equipment Market Outlook, 2021’, fire safety equipment market of
India is growing with a CAGR of more than 15% from last six years. India fire safety equipment
market comprises of three major segments: fire-fighting equipment, fire alarm & detection equipment
and fire-fighter personal protection equipment. Fire-fighting equipment market includes fire
extinguisher, fire sprinkler and other fire-fighting apparatus such as fire hydrant, fire hose reel, fire
bucket, etc. Fire alarm, control panel, call point, smoke detector, heat detector, flame detector and
other devices are part of fire detection system. Fire-fighter personal protection apparatus consist of
fire resistance suit, fire blanket and others such as fire helmet, fire gloves, fire shoes, fire harness,
etc. Currently, fire-fighting segment is accounting for the largest demand within the fire safety
equipment market.

India fire safety systems and equipment market are witnessing substantial growth on account of rising
consumer awareness for fire safety solutions, rise in fire incidences, and overall growth in
construction sector. Moreover, growing adoption of fire safety solutions across various verticals
including commercial, industrial, retail, oil & gas, hospitality, and residential have further propelled
the demand for fire safety systems and equipment in the country.

According to 6Wresearch, India Fire Safety Systems and Equipment market is projected to grow at
a CAGR of more than 9% during 2017-23. In India fire safety systems and equipment market, the

1.2 About the company

Company history and background

Pyrox: Integrated Safety System: Freedom from Excessive Cabling the Residential Apartment Sector
has seen high growth world over and specially in India owing to the burgeoning young middle upper
class whose buying power has been fuelled by the IT /ITES industry. Hitherto there has never been
an integrated approach to provide safety and security to the apartment sector. While the innovation
trends are more towards Home Security and Home Automation the integrated safety security needs
of an apartment complex as a whole have been largely neglected barring a security guard who is
generally hired by apartment associations.

Pyrox for the first time provides an integrated security and fire safety solution including smoke
detection, LPG gas leak detection, CCTV surveillance, panic-emergency, public address to
residential apartment segment. Pyrox thus becomes a one stop solution for the segment and the
apartment builder and the associations are spared the trouble of dealing with multiple vendors and
non-customised solutions. Pyrox which is able to save 90% of the cabling compared to conventional
systems due to a patented technology has already found acceptance in the Delhi market and has been
implemented in 70 buildings and another 25 buildings are under progress. Armed with a smoke
detector that is immune to false triggering from dust and steam the Pyrox system is rapidly been
adopted in high rise apartment due to its ease of implementation and maintenance. Pyrox modules
are designed to perform the functions of detection annunciation and communication for a particular
area thus enabling the fire personnel to get a comprehensive audio and visual bi-directional access to
the affected premises through reliable means without loss of command control. Pyrox, while having
all these additional benefits can save around 30% costs for the customers owing to its reduced cabling
architecture.

Webgilant Fire Ready

As everything around us gets smarter- smart -watches -homes-phones it is opportune time for
breaking new grounds to make Fire Safety Equipment smarter. Developments in Artificial
intelligence, IOT and Machine Learning provide profound opportunities for bringing about a
paradigm shift in dependability and effectivity of Fire Safety Systems. Having 20 years of domain
experience in Designing and installation of Fire Safety equipment augmented by a team of Fire
Fighting domain experts and technologists, at Webgilant Fire Ready are committed to bring state-of-
the art solutions to make Fire Safety Systems truly dependable.

Our Webgilant (an acronym for web-intelligent-vigilant) Fire Ready (WFR) – one M2M Smart City
Standard Compliant, Cyber Secure platform, is a principal initiative to bring true value to the millions
spent in deploying Fire Safety Systems. This platform endeavours to automatically perform a periodic
real time tests on of Fire Safety systems in addition to continuous online monitoring of the various
vital system parameters to ensure the “Continuous Readiness” of these systems without any manual
intervention, thereby saving manpower costs while eliminating any scope for human omissions

WFR is a system that does automatic maintenance runs of the pump house at periodic, pre-
programmed intervals. This ensures that all equipment is made to operate as if there is a fire situation.
Hence the equipment gets tested automatically without need for any human intervention. Reports of
this testing are recorded and stored. Failures are reported immediately by E-mail and SMS for
necessary action. Thus, the Webgilant ensures that the system is maintained in a healthy condition
all the time guaranteeing for the first-time fire readiness of the protected premises. The system has
received very conducive reviews in a few exhibitions where even Home Ministry Departments of
various state governments have shown protecting critical infrastructure and public places by
deployment of a government owned server to which will give them a bird’s eye view of the status of
the buildings in the city/state.

The Webgilant Fire Ready platform also provides facility to integrate the monitoring of the Fire
Alarm System. The critical performance parameters of Fire Alarm Systems including Zone
Configuration, Faults in Zone/Loop and monitoring of Panel healthiness in covered exhaustively to
ensure the availability of a functional system to facilitate timely identification of a probable hazard.

Currently, Webgilant and the associated Fire Detection Monitoring Hardware are protecting multiple
prestigious installations in Bangalore and Pune city of India.

1.2.1 Description of the main activities, functions and processes

The main activities that include is to manufacture the 2 main products that is Smoke detectors and
Heat detectors.
The main functions are search for the project that wants the smoke detectors, heat detectors to be
fixed and processes that include is to market and sell the idea of the project to the client so that they
can understand about the project.

Products

The main products in Pyrox Pvt. Ltd. Is Smoke detectors and Heat detectors.
Smoke Detectors:
A smoke detector is a device that senses smoke, typically as an indicator of fire. Commercial security
devices issue a signal to a fire alarm control panel as part of a fire alarm system, while household
smoke detectors, also known as smoke alarms, generally issue a local audible or visual alarm from
the detector itself.

Heat Detectors:
A heat detector is a fire alarm device designed to respond when the convected thermal energy of a
fire increases the temperature of a heat sensitive element. The thermal mass and conductivity of the
element regulate the rate flow of heat into the element. All heat detectors have this thermal lag. Heat
detectors have two main classifications of operation, “rate-of-rise” and “fixed temperature”. The heat
detector is used to help in the reduction of damaged property. It is triggered when temperature
increases.

they work, how many people work on that particular project that are taken by the company, how
many smoke and heat detectors erected and commissioned and how many of the smoke and heat
detectors are billed this is comes under the tower wise reports as per the projects how many of SD
and HD are erected and commissioned as per flat to the tower.

After understanding the reports the main objective of the project is the need of the mobile app to
easy update of these reports and this can be done by developing the mobile application and as per
the project, the company need an app developer to develop an app so that the search for the
developers has to be done and for developers the requirements has to be given to understand the
what type of the app development they have to develop. The requirements can be made with the
help of the MIS concepts which is flowcharts, sample templates and other things with respect to an
app developer. The main use of this app is that the site supervisors which are in the particular
project they can easily update the data without any extra work on the excel.

 Problem Identification
Pyrox I-City uses a project management and task management tool called trello which is
used to update the reports and it can be accessible by commission engineer, operation team
and sales team. The problem was found by the company is that, it takes times to update the
report in trello and site supervisor have to do the extra work to update the reports. This is
the main problem that has been identified by the company and we have to search for mobile
app developers to develop an app and by app the direct update can happen without any extra
work and waste of time.

 External factors

The external factors to this project are, an app developer.

 Internal factors

Internally, system managers, commission engineers and sales team.

Flowchart

4. Coding and Testing

To build the system the coding has to be done and this can be done with the programming
language that supported by the Android development environment, java plus the Android
software development kit (SDK).

Some of issues are:

The platform (combination of OS and programming languages) that will be used that has to
be support with all the version of Android. To reduce some of the conflicts while coding the
practice of coding documentation will be done and testing like sub—testing and integration
testing can also be done.

5. Implementation and Integration

Once the system is ready the testing can be done that is, alpha test regarding the use of the
software in conditions that would be the case in actual case and beta testing-full capacity for
the purpose it is created for (production mode)

Integration of the software will be done with the everyday processes of the organization.
Onetime cutover – using the new system with abending the older software
Parallel cutover – old and new system exists for certain period of time, which allows the user
to use both

6. Maintenance
This phase initiated once the system has been tested and installed into production. This entails
recording problems and feature enhancements, problem to be attended and feature
enhancements are attempted when there are possible within the existing structure of the
system.
Maintenance is often outsourced to firms and agencies that have specialist skills in the task.
Some systems are often in continuous production for decades after they have developed. They
are maintained by agencies that have skilled employees who know the old technology and
can create updates and patches for the system to remain relevant.

 Alternative way
Agile Methodology can used for this problem, because this method relied on short-analysis-
design coding-testing-cycles, with the close user interaction and flexible team compositions
to build the software. This emphasis on reducing and controlling risk.
Shorter life cycles ensured that bugs and design flaws were detected early, and the user
involvement throughout the project ensured the requirement.
This method relay on creating program quickly and with close user interaction with the
customer.
3.3Approach Selected

3.3.1 Agile Methodology

In agile methodology the system’s risks will be controlled and reduced.

The direct interaction with the customers with quick response to the developers.
With the close interaction with the customers the requirements can change with the
customer’s needs.
This will improve the quality of the project.
This open working environment and limit on number of hours to remain motivate and
productive.

 Problem solving approach

We can implement this method by developing the mobile application for the internal users,
that helps the user to update the report frequently and directly get the report in form of
document and pdf file.

 Rationale and motivation

o Improve the efficiency and system of the company.
o Easily understandable and adoptable.
o Get the best vendors for app development (technical bid).

 Description of the approach

Problem can be solved with the help of MIS methodology; those are Waterfall and Agile
Methodology. These methods can get the required requirements, flowchart and blueprint for
the developers to understand about the situation and do the required system.

 Steps of execution
o Project Requirements
o Analysis
o Design
o Coding and Testing
o Implementation and Integration
o Maintenance
o Vendor Selection
o Vendor Contracts and Service Levels
3.4 Limitations/ Challenges
