/ travelling assembly entanglement.
14 Using the red V-door air hoist the insert bushings shall be unlocked and removed one at a Driller, AD
time and stowed away from the rotary table area. Remove the bushing pullers and replace
with diverter handling hooks.
15 Using the green starboard side air hoist The master bushings are removed and placed away Driller, AD
from the rotary table area (use the racking arm to assist in guiding the master bushings
away)
16 A Floorhand with harness and fall restraint shall attach the lifting hooks to the insert packer. Safety Harness and fall restraint Driller, AD
The Driller shall unlock the diverter from the BOP panel. The Floorman shall give the all clear inertia line
to the Driller when the securing dogs have been retracted. The Diverter insert packer can
now be raised in the diverter housing, cleaned and stored on the port side of the drill floor.
Remove the diverter handling hooks and install the single leg bushing pullers.
17 Using the green starboard side air hoist The master bushings are moved back over the rotary Driller, AD
table and lowered into position (use the racking arm to assist in guiding the master bushings
into position)
18 Using the red V-door air hoist the insert bushings can be inserted and locked one at a time. Driller, AD
19 The Elevators shall be positioned to assist the Derrickhand. Once in position the TDS Driller, AD
rotating head shall be locked in that position. The Driller shall hoist the travelling assembly to
the Monkey board level and activate the link tilt.
The Derrickhand shall run the drill collar into and latch the elevators. The Driller shall observe Ensure derrick camera(s) cleaned Driller, Derrickhand
20 through direct line of sight and use of monkey board camera. The rig floor racking arm will and derrick talk back system is
be attached to guide the drill collar to the well centre. There is no requirement for anyone to operational
handle the drill collar. The Derrick hand will remove his pull back assembly prior to the stand
being rotated.
21 If picking up BHA assembly from the deck : The AD will have the components laid out Driller, AD
measured, thread checked and numbered in the sequence that it is required to be picked up.
A drift will be inserted into the tubular prior to installing a lifting head or lift cap to the box end.
(size dependant : 6 ½” and below, lift cap and air hoist – 8” and above, lift head and air
hoist, tailed in with crane and catwalk hoist. The lifting head shall be tightened with a chain
tong and chalk marked across the connection to identify for any back out. The pin end thread
protector will be checked for tightness and that the drift cannot fall through prior to protector
removal.
22 6 ½” and below. With the catwalk clear of personnel, lift to the drill floor with the v-door air Driller, AD, Crane
hoist, secure at top of v-door and remove thread protector and drift. Inform the driller that the Operator
drift has been removed, replace thread protector and lower into mousehole and remove air
hoist. The first component of the drilling assembly shall have the bit sub attached on deck (if
applicable) utilizing the deck roller system. Tubulars will not be left in the mousehole while
tripping the BHA.
23 The Driller lowers the travelling assembly to the rig floor, pull on wire to lower the link tilt Driller, AD
securing bar to allow the link tilt to travel to the extend position, latch elevators around the lift
sub, confirm the latching to the Driller. The Driller will pick up the drill collar from the
mousehole deactivating the link tilt from the fully extend position to the extend position. Once
out of the mousehole the thread protector can be removed from the pin end.
24 For drill collars above 6 ½” the elevators will be attached “back to front” with the horns facing Driller, AD
the drawworks positioned at head height with the link tilt activated in the extend position.
25 The drill collar on deck will have the v-door air hoist attached to a 3 ton sling double wrapped 3 ton slings, shackles, deck crane, Driller, AD, Crane
around the slip recess at the box end of the drill collar. The catwalk air hoist shall be attached air hoists Operator
to a 3 ton sling double wrapped about 8’ from the pin end. The deck crane will be attached to
a 3 ton sling double wrapped about 7’ from the pin end. The drill collar can now be lifted to
the rig floor. The Banksman shall direct the crane operator to maintain the tubular within the
v-door handrails with the tubular remaining horizontal. The catwalk air hoist operator will
keep minimal strain on the tubular to prevent it from swinging. Once inside the rig floor the v-
door hoist operator shall lift the tubular into the elevators and one of the drill crew will confirm
the elevators are latched to the Driller. The Driller then takes the weight of the tubular with
the travelling assembly and de-activates the link tilt. The v-door air hoist and sling are
removed. The Driller picks the tubular up into the derrick and the crane is slackened off and
removed from the tubular. The catwalk air hoist is slackened off as the tubular is picked up
into the vertical position allowing the tubular to swing into the rig floor in a controlled manner
the hoist and sling can be removed once the tubular is in the vertical position at the front of
the rotary table area.
26 The bit breaker plate and bit can be placed into the rotary table, bit size dependant, it may be Bit breaker, bit breaker plate, Driller, AD
necessary to remove the fixed hole cover and insert bushings. Remove the bit lifting cap and shackle and lifting cap
apply dope to the threads and shoulder of the bit.
27 The tubular can be stabbed onto the bit in the rotary table. The Floormen latch and bite the Make-up tong, calibrated load cell, Driller, AD
make-up tong onto the bottom of the stand. snub line and shackles with
securing rings.
28 The Driller assigns the rotary table on his control panel, selects reverse and sets the torque Driller, AD
limiter to minimal setting, keeping his hand on the rheostat turns the rotary table slowly in
reverse and makes up the threads of the drill bit to the threads of the stand, keeping the
weight of the tubular in the elevators. The final make up torque shall be applied with the
make-up tong at 90° and no tension on the snub line. After removal of the tong the Driller
shall pick up, the bit breaker and plate are removed from the rotary table. If a cone bit is
being run the AD shall confirm the free rotation of the bit cones prior to running below the
rotary table.
29 Size dependant once the bit/ stabilizers are below the rotary table the insert / master Bit and stabilizer gauges Driller, AD
bushings can be installed as described above.
30 Using an underhand grip on the slip handles the Floormen shall set the slips around the slip Slips, Safety Clamp, hammer Driller, AD
recess area of the tubular ensuring they are even, the Driller shall retain the majority of the wrench and hammer.
weight within the elevators. The Floormen will install the safety clamp a few inches above the
slips ensuring it is fitted evenly and all slip segments are biting on the tubular. The safety
clamp shall be hammered up or final make up. The Driller slackens off ensuring the tubular is
being held in the slips and not the safety clamp.
31 The elevators are removed and travelling assembly raised in the derrick to allow the lifting
head to be removed without the air hoist becoming entangled with the travelling assembly.
32 The single joint elevators attached to the green starboard air hoist are latched around the 5” single joint elevators, air hoist,
lifting head in the rotary table, the lifting head is then broken and spun out with the Iron chain tong
Rougneck or manually with a chain tong. The lifting head shall be stored in the rack on the
starboard side of the rig floor or lowered down the v-door with protector fitted to be used on
another tubular.
33 The Make-up torque for the tubular to be tightened will be set on the Iron Roughneck and
confirmed by the Driller prior to attaching to the tubular in the rotary. The gauges on the Iron
Roughneck and in the Doghouse shall be confirmed to be reading the same.
34 The Iron Roughneck will be the primary method for spinning up torqueing the BHA (Chain Driller, AD
tongs and manual tongs may have to be used depending on size and stabilizer placement).
The Floormen will present the Iron Roughneck to the tubular in the rotary after authorization
from the Driller ensuring the jaws are set to the correct position and biting on the box and pin
end of the tubular. The Iron Roughneck Operator shall confirm that the Derrickhand has
removed his chain assembly prior to rotating the tubular. The final make-up torque shall be
confirmed by the Driller. (false make-up reading can occur if the make-up jaw position has
cycled to the end of the piston stroke). The Driller takes the weight of the string with the
travelling assembly leaving the slips in place, once confirmed by the Driller, the Floormen
can remove the safety clamp and place at the front of the drawworks ready for the next
component. The slips can now be pulled.
35 The support pin (Ezy-Spin) will be used to make up tools / stabilizers with pin down Ezy-Spin tubular support tool Driller, AD
connections that will not exceed a comfortable working height for the drill crew.
Place support pin in Kelly bushing drive hole in rotary table. Using the v-door air hoist
position tool with lift cap over the support pin and lower. The support pin OD is 2”. Ensure
tool is adequately supported prior to removing air hoist. The tubular is lowered slowly into the
box of the tool and made up with chain tong. The complete assembly can now be picked up
by the Driller and made up to the BHA in the rotary table.
36 Install the Diverter insert packer once the last component with the a greater OD has been run Diverter insert packer, diverter Driller, AD
in the hole. handling hooks, master and single
leg bushing pullers, air hoists
37 Using the red V-door air hoist with diverter handling hooks, lift the diverter insert packer over Driller, AD
the stump in the rotary table. (The stump will be higher than normal to accommodate the
insert packer) Remove the hooks and stow hoist out of the way.
38 Make up next stand as normal, once stand made up, attach diverter insert packer lifting Driller, AD
hooks and raise insert packer above the RBS height. Lower RBS below insert packer.
Remove all tools and equipment from around rotary table area.
39 Using the yellow port side air hoist the insert bushings shall be unlocked and removed one at Driller, AD
a time and stowed away from the rotary table area. Remove the master bushings hinge pin
prior to removing bushings. Use securing device through pin handle in case pin is dropped.
40 Using the green starboard side air hoist The master bushings are lifted from the rotary table Driller, AD
and moved to the side (use the racking arm to assist in guiding the master bushings)
41 The Driller shall return the RBS to the parked position and the insert packer shall be lowered Safety harness and fall restraint Driller, AD
into the diverter housing. The drill crew shall confirm to the driller that it has landed out in the inertia line
housing and that the insert packer can be locked in position.
The Driller shall lock the diverter from the BOP panel. The Floorman shall give confirmation
to the Driller when the locking dogs (4) have been extended. A Floorman with harness and
fall restraint will remove the Diverter insert packer handling hooks.
42 Using the green starboard side air hoist The master bushings are moved back over the rotary Driller, AD
table and lowered into position (use the racking arm to assist in guiding the master bushings
into position)
43 Using the red V-door air hoist the insert bushings can be inserted and locked one at a time. Driller, AD
44 The Driller will record the weight of the BHA prior to picking up the jars, this information will Driller
be recorded on the BHA sheet. The Driller will make up the stand to the drilling jars and take
the weight of the BHA with the slips still in position; at that point the jar clamp can now be
removed.
45 The Driller will record the total weight of the BHA once all the components have been run / Driller
picked up. This information will be recorded on the BHA sheet.
46 The Driller shall unlock and open the DSC prior to passing the bit through the BOP and well Driller, AD
head. Space out the BHA to enable the bit to pass through the BOP on one stand.
