ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the “Factors that influence increased in
number of students enrolled in Senior High School ICT course at Semirara National High School”.
The study was guided by five factors which focused on ICT facilities, ICT teachers, Location of
your school, Job availability and opportunity of ICT and Students Aspiration. The population
included all students taking Information and Communication Technology Course which are the 56
Grade 11 Jupiter and 53 Grade 12 Venus. The researchers produced and managed a self-made
questionnaires-checklist to support the study. There is only one questionnaire each of the
respondents. To determine the factors that influence increase number of students enrolled in Senior
High School ICT course at Semirara National High School we used weighted percentile rank and
mean. From the findings, the following conclusion were drawn. It was found out that the most
factor that influence increase number of students enrolled in Senior High School ICT course at
Semirara National High school is Indicator 5 which is students aspiration with 72%, followed by
indicator 1 which is ICT facilities got 70%, then Indicator 3 which is Job Availability and
Opportunity of ICT obtained 64%, next is the indicator 2 which is ICT teachers with 62% and
lastly, Indicator 4 which is Location of school with 56%. In addition to this, the school should have

2.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter focused on review of the literature to this study. It also covered the factors
that influence the increased in number of students enrolled in Senior High School ICT course at
Semirara National High School. These are the factors that influence increase number of students;
ICT facilities, ICT Teachers, Location of School, Job availability and opportunity of ICT and
Students’ aspiration. It ended with conceptual framework, Theoretical Framework, hypothesis and
operational terms.

smart phones and tablets continue to change the way we communicate, do business, and
access news & entertainment, the demand for new and innovative mobile apps is growing
at an incredible speed. This increased demand translates to one of the largest IT skills
gaps ever realized – there are simply more mobile application development job openings
than skilled developers to fill them. Google's Android and Apple's iOS (iPhone & iPad)
platforms will continue to offer the most job opportunities for mobile developers; view this

computer systems that power these initiatives will create jobs for systems software
engineers.
The $100+ billion dollar gaming industry has more than tripled in size over the last
decade. Beyond the booming market for PC and console games, the increased
popularity, processing power, and graphics capabilities of mobile devices has unlocked a
new world of job opportunities for video game designers, artists and programmers. Game
designers with mobile development expertise will be especially sought after as smart
phones and tablets continue to change how video games are played. Game designer

Web Developer
Web Developer Employment Projections | 2016 - 2026
Each year, a record number of businesses bring their offerings to the Internet. As the
number of products and services online continues to grow, web developers and
designers will enjoy increased job opportunities. Proliferation of social networks will
boost demand for web developers as businesses look to engage a new generation of
customers and spur a competitive advantage in this rapidly growing space. Responsive
web design, user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) skills are a hot commodity in
this position as displays must increasingly adapt to varying device sizes and types, e.g.,
smart watches.
Health care will produce more new computer jobs through 2020 than any other single
industry. Aggressive government mandates and funding incentives for medical practices
to adopt centralized electronic health records is driving unprecedented hiring of health
information technicians trained and certified in these new technologies. Health

information technicians may earn the lowest starting salary on this list, but the required
education is the quickest (typically a 2-year degree program in Health IT), plus
candidates learning now will be well-positioned for lucrative management positions as
the health IT job market continues to mature.
Technology Manager
Technology Manager Employment Projections | 2016 - 2026
Job growth for information technology managers is directly tied to the growth rates of
the IT workers they supervise. Record-breaking growth in a variety of technical jobs –
including networking, mobile development, software engineering, data management and
cloud computing – will continue through 2025 and beyond, in turn fueling strong
demand for talented IT managers. Additional growth will be driven by increased focus
on information security and the hiring of additional cyber security personnel.
Database Administrator
especially those with information security skills - will be hired to protect corporate data
from hackers and other cyber threat vectors.
Network Administrator
Demand for network administrators will rise as organizations invest in new computer
systems and network technologies to increase productivity and gain a competitive
advantage. The rapid adoption of tablets and smartphones into corporate culture
means more organizations will use the Internet to conduct business online,
translating to increased job opportunities for network administrators and network
managers who can help businesses securely use these emerging technologies.
Cloud computing skills are also vital to maximize network administration job
prospects.

Grace Kao & Marta Tienda (2013) ‘Educational Aspirations of Minority Youth’
Through the National Education Longitudinal Study of 2013 (NELS:88), The researchers
analyzed how educational aspirations were formed and were maintained from eighth to
twelfth grades among a single cohort of youth Guided by research in the status attainment
literature, which focused on how aspirations were shaped and the blocked opportunities
framework, which considered the structural obstacles that bound or level aspirations. A
sample of 510 whites and Asians, black and Hispanic youth were taken. The results
revealed that the relative shares of minority youth who have high educational aspirations
were high from eight to twelfth grades. However, ethnic groups differed to the 48 extent
to which high educational aspirations were maintained such that black and Hispanic youth
had less stable aspirations. Results suggested that family socioeconomic status (SES)
not only contributed to ambitious aspirations in eighth grade but, more important, to the
maintenance of high aspirations throughout the high school years. Because black and
Hispanic students were less likely to maintain their high aspirations throughout high
school owing to their lower family SES background, they argued that their early
aspirations were less concrete than those of white and especially Asian students. Focus-
group discussions with adolescents support quantitative findings that, compared to whites
and Asians, black and Hispanic youth were relatively uninformed about college, thus

2.7CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
The central theme of social influence theory, as proposed by Kelman (1958), is that an
individual’s attitude, beliefs and subsequent actions or behaviors are influenced by referent others
through three processes: compliance, identification, and internalization. Kelman (1958) posited
that social influence brings about changes in attitude and actions, and that changes may occur at
different “levels”. This difference in the level of changes can be attributed by the differences in
the processes through which individuals accept influence. Kelman (1958) delineated three primary
processes of influence as described below:
Compliance is assumed to occur when individuals accept influence and adopt the induced
behavior to gain rewards (or, approval) and avoid punishments (or, disapproval). Hence, “the
satisfaction derived from compliance is due to the social effect of accepting influence.” (p.53)
identification is said to happen when individuals adopt the induced behavior in order to create or
maintain a desired and beneficial relationship to another person or a group. Hence, the satisfaction
occurs due to “the act of conforming.” (p.53)
Internalization is assumed to occur when individuals accept influence after perceiving the
content of the induced behavior is rewarding in which the content indicates the opinions and
actions of others. It is also stated that individuals adopt the induced behavior realizing that it is
congruent with their value system. In this case, therefore, the satisfaction occurs due to “the content
of the new behavior”. (p.53) each of the three processes can be represented by a function of the
following three determinants of influence: (a) the relative importance of the anticipated effect, (b)
the relative power of the influencing agent, and (c) the prepotency of the induced response (Kelman
1958). However, for each process, these determinants are qualitatively different. So each process
has a distinctive set of antecedent conditions; similarly each process leads to a distinctive set of
consequent conditions.
Since social influence can shape an individual’s attitudes, beliefs and actions, the impact
of social influence on information system (IS) acceptance and usage has been studied extensively.
However, the initial theorizing on IS adoption and use (Lewis et al. 2003; Venkatesh and David
2000; Ventakesh et al. 2003) is contended to consider the perspective of social normative
compliance, thereby overlooking the identification and internalization processes of social
influence (Malhotra and Galleta 2005). It is argued that the subjective norm is the dominant
conceptualize of social influence and the way it is operationalized that typically emphasizes
compliance (Wang et.al. 2013).
SEMIRARA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Subjective norm is theorized in several behavioral models such as the theory of planned behavior
(TPB) and the theory of reasoned action (TRA) (Ajzen 1991; Fishbein and Ajzen 1975).
Technology-related subjective norm appears in different IS-specific models, including TAM2
AND UTAUT (Venkatesh and Davis 2000; Venkatesh et al. 2003).
Realizing that only one aspect of social influence i.e., compliance may not predict the true
relationship between the system users’ belief and behavior, and IS use, other researcher attempt to
bring the perspectives of all three processes of social influence to provide the integrated impact of
them (Mahotra and Galletta 2005; Wang et al. 2013). They believe that the effect of compliance-
based social influence may reduce over time, whereas the effects of identification and
internalization would persist over longer periods. Therefore, studies that theorize all three
processes of social influence indicate that social influence may differ significantly across groups
in organizations (Wang et al. 2013). Such conceptualization helps us to understand how the system
users’ own beliefs and judgments also influence their commitment to adopt and use technology,
complementing the understanding of previous studied that focus on how the system users comply
and conform to the beliefs of salient others.

5.2 CONCLUSION
This study indeed established that student’s aspiration has the highest rank computed result
on the factors that influence the increased in number of students enrolled in Senior High School
ICT course at Semirara National High School with the percentage of 72% .Students understand
the realities of the world of work, when students have a goal of what they want their future to be.
They are powerfully motivated to give their best effort to reach that goal.
This is also concluded that ICT facilities has the second highest rank computed with the
percentage of 70%. If the student sees that there are adequate computer infrastructural facilities in
their school there has a larger tendency to choose the computer studies.
The study further concluded that job availability and opportunity of ICT has the third
highest rank computed with the result of 64%. Students often make choices based on the existing
job opportunities for college graduates. Students are interested of the outcomes. The outcome
expectation include: availability jobs, ability to choose career specialization, and opportunity to
While the ICT teacher has the fourth rank computed with percentage of 62%. The teachers-
learning environment played a key role in shaping students attitude about social studies.Teacher
who were willing to assist students in learning showed enthusiasm in the classroom, and paid close
attention to students need had a strong effect on how students felt about social studies.
Location of your school has the lowest computed rank with the percentage of 56%.

5.3 RECOMMENDATION
For students
Think wisely before choosing course you want in Senior High School
The ICT teachers should show that they are willing to assist or teach those students who
are not fully knowledgeable, for them to master what others can do.
Since students aspiration is the highest factors that influence the increased in number of
students enrolled in Senior High school ICT course the parents should let their children
choose what they really want. Support should start from the parents or family and not
rejection.
For Administration
There is need of well-equipped schools with adequate computer facilities to have more
students choose Information and communication technology and to ensure that they can
