About this Handbook
This handbook is intended to assist academic institutions (i.e. universities, colleges), interested in the International
Institute of Business Analysis™ (IIBA®) Academic Program, understand its framework, levels of engagement, benefits,
features, fees and procedures.

The Academic Program


The IIBA Academic Program provides an opportunity for colleges and universities to forge a strong supportive
and collaborative relationship with IIBA. Our vision is to create a win/win relationship by providing a multi-
level flexible framework.

Benefits
This framework will:
• Enable your students, faculty, and staff to access the many benefits of IIBA membership
• Provide them with the products and services that will help them offer industry recognized business
analysis programs
• Collaborate on research to advance the BA profession on a global scale
• Create opportunities for students through the bridging of our institutions

Membership Requirements
To qualify for the IIBA Academic Program, academic institutions must satisfy the following criteria:
• Be an accredited academic institution
• Agree to abide by the IIBA academic program’s terms and conditions and handbook
• Agree to abide to the terms and conditions of the IIBA® Corporate Identity and Trademark Policy
• If audited by IIBA, the ability to provide access to up to four years of student records
• The institution grants IIBA the right to identify the institution as an IIBA Academic Member, including
posting the institution’s logo on the IIBA Academic Members website
• Agree that the discount/group code provided to the institution will only be given to students enrolled in
business analysis related courses and programs, and their staff/faculty.

Additional Memberships
If your institution requires additional memberships for your staff/faculty or students, they can be purchased at a

Please note: IIBA individual memberships are not refundable and not transferable.

Application Process
Step 1: Review the Academic Program’s framework and benefits.
Step 2: Select the level of engagement that suits your institution’s needs.
Step 3: Complete the Academic Program Enrollment Process.
Within this process, you must:
• Agree to the IIBA Academic Program’s Terms and Conditions
• Pay for the initial fee based on the level selected.
Upon completion of payment, you will receive an e-mail from IIBA with instructions on how to access your
respective level’s benefits.
Step 4: At any point during your term, you may submit an academic programing application form.
Upon receipt, assessments may take up to two weeks.

Account Changes
All account changes can be done from your account using the Manage My Organizational Account option,
located within the Membership tab.

Audits
The academic program will conduct random audits to ensure compliance with IIBA policies and procedures. If
an institution has been identified as being non-compliant, the Academic Program will issue a notice of findings
and request a corrective action plan from the non-compliant institution.

Renewal Process
Renewal Fee
Academic members will be issued a renewal notice 60 and 30 days prior to their account’s annual renewal date.

Overdue Payments
Overdue payments will result in removal of your organization’s information from the IIBA website, this
includes the status of recognized courses and co-branded programing to become inactive.
For academic members wishing to renew 60 days passed their account’s annual renewal date, a late fee of $250
will be applied to the invoice. Payment in full must be received in order to be reinstated to the website.
The original account’s annual renewal date will remain.
Accounts 90 days in arrears will not be reinstated and will require recompletion of the academic program
enrollment process.

Lapsed Accounts
Academic members who are passed due, or who voluntarily withdraw from the program and who are not
seeking reinstatement must remove all IIBA Academic Program logos immediately upon termination of the
agreement.

Complaints
Only academic institutions that are members of the IIBA Academic Program have the authority to offer
educational products that incorporate official IIBA trademarks, brands, and copyright materials, as per their
respective program level.
Institutions, who are not active members of the IIBA Academic Program, who use IIBA intellectual property
(including, but not limited to: content from the BABOK® Guide, IIBA trademarks and certification marks) may
be in breach of intellectual property law.
To report any institutions in breach of intellectual property law and/or misusing our trademarks, brands and/or
copyright materials, please e-mail academic@iiba.org.
Academic members found to be in breach of IIBA Academic program’s terms and conditions risk losing their
affiliation with IIBA.

Trademarks and Copyright


Active academic members are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license
(without the right to sublicense) to use the following: IIBA trademarks, registered trademarks, certification
marks, registered certification marks, and design marks.

IIBA Standards and Guidelines
Academic members must abide by the Corporate Standard Guidelines and the Trademark Usage Policy
and the intent of such policy.

IIBA Logos
Academic Program members may include the academic member logo only on certificates issued to students
representing the completion of IIBA recognized courses or co-branded programs.

Appendix A:
Co-branded Academic Certificate Program
The co-branded International Institute of Business Analysis™ (IIBA®) Academic Certificate in Business
Analysis provides an opportunity for anyone considering a career in business analysis and who has no prior BA
experience to gain a comprehensive understanding of the business analysis role.
The academic certificate program will provide instruction and educational content to students in each of the
competencies outlined in the Guide to Competency-Based Certification and the BABOK® Guide. Upon
completion of the program, students will have the knowledge to perform effectively as an entry level business
analysis professional.
This one semester course is for students enrolled in undergraduate and/or graduate programs, and for
professionals who want to learn more about the discipline of business analysis.
Professionals and students interested in pursuing a career in business analysis should consider the co-branded
IIBA Academic Certificate in Business Analysis as a first step toward entering the BA profession.

Academic Certificate Benefits


The benefits of offering a co-branded IIBA Academic Certificate in Business Analysis to students are as
follows:
• Offers those new to the field of business analysis an opportunity to gain the knowledge needed to fully
understand business analysis
• Provides opportunities for colleges and universities to offer a thorough course in business analysis that has
been reviewed and approved by IIBA, the world’s leading association for the business analysis profession.
• Utilizes course materials that have been reviewed and approved by IIBA to be in alignment with the
BABOK Guide.
• Offers a professional development option for employers who want to provide training for employees
seeking a career in business analysis
• Provides the opportunity to further advertise your institution’s association with IIBA, demonstrating to
prospective students your commitment to align with the top professional association for the business
analysis profession.
• Offers a solid introduction to business analysis for anyone interested in pursuing the IIBA Academic
Diploma Program.

Steps to offering the program


To offer the Academic Certificate in Business Analysis at your institution, please follow these steps:
1. Your institution must be a Level 2 IIBA Academic Member to offer this program.
2. Download and complete the Academic Certificate Requirements Document.
3. Complete the academic programming application form.

4. Upon completion, your institution will receive their assessment results within 30 days. You will either
receive an approval or be informed of the changes required in order to be approved.
5. When your application is approved, IIBA will send you a co-branded academic certificate template and
a graduate register template. Your institution can now begin offering and marketing the co-branded
academic certificate, which includes using the Academic Certificate in Business Analysis logo in course
catalogues, brochures, and etc.

Course completion
• To earn a co-branded IIBA Academic Certificate in Business Analysis, students are required to achieve a
grade of B or better, or 77% or better. A pass/fail score will not be accepted by IIBA.
• Your institution will be responsible for sending a list of recipients, who have met the certificate program
criteria, using the graduate register template to IIBA
• Your institution will be responsible for preparing and delivering a co-branded academic certificate to
recipients, who have met the certificate program criteria.
• Recipients will be sent a congratulatory e-mail from IIBA requesting for their consent to be included in
the IIBA Academic Certificate Recipient Registry.

Appendix B:
Co-branded Academic Diploma Program
The Academic Diploma in Business Analysis from International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) is
designed for students who have chosen business analysis as their desired profession.
The multi-course program provides both foundational and applied knowledge in business analysis by offering
hands-on experience to practice and demonstrate an understanding of the classroom concepts through co-ops,
internships or progressive case studies. Students thoroughly explore the profession first-hand, beyond the
textbook. To ensure they can interact effectively across an organization, students also perform coursework in
supporting disciplines.
Students who earn the Academic Diploma in Business Analysis will be demonstrating to potential employers
their commitment to the profession of business analysis. They will be better prepared for their first full-time
position in the field, giving them an edge above the typical graduate. As diploma recipients, these new BAs
have the opportunity to jump-start their careers and have established a clear path towards future professional
certification in business analysis.

Academic Diploma Benefits


The benefits of offering a co-branded IIBA Academic Diploma in Business Analysis to students are as follows:
• Offers those new to the field of business analysis an opportunity to gain the knowledge needed to fully
understand the business analyst role and the profession.
• Delivers a strong curriculum aligned to A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge®
(BABOK® Guide), reviewed and approved by IIBA®.
• Gives students hands-on experience in the profession while progressing through the program, providing
students with various opportunities to apply classroom concepts to real-world business situations.
• Enables colleges and universities to offer a program of high value and quality that will encourage
students to join the business analysis profession, a role that is in high demand by employers.
• Provides the opportunity to further advertise your institution’s association with IIBA, demonstrating to
prospective students your commitment to align with the top professional organization for the business
analysis profession.

Steps to offering the program


To offer the Academic Diploma in Business Analysis at your institution, please follow these steps:
1. Your institution must be a Level 2 IIBA Academic Member to offer this program.
2. Students enrolled in the program must have access to their own copy of the BABOK® Guide, which can
be purchased by the institution or student.
By the institution:
Purchasing one-year IIBA memberships for your students during their studies will give them access to
a free PDF copy of the BABOK Guide, in addition to all the remaining IIBA membership benefits. This

method provides the most value to your students and is the least administrative option. Otherwise, a
bulk purchase of hard or soft copies can be made.
By the student:
Students themselves can purchase an IIBA membership, or a hard or soft copy of the BABOK guide
through the BABOK Guide website.
3. Download and complete the Academic Diploma Requirements Document.
4. Complete the academic programming application form.
5. Once completed, your institution will receive their assessment results within 30 days. You will either
receive an approval or be informed of the changes required in order to be approved.
6. When your application is approved, IIBA will send you a co-branded diploma certificate template and a
graduate register template. Your institution can now begin offering and marketing the co-branded
academic diploma, which includes using the Academic Diploma in Business Analysis logo in course
catalogues, brochures, etc.

Diploma Program Completion


• Your institution will be responsible for sending a list of recipients, who have completed the co-branded
academic diploma in business analysis program, using the graduate register template to IIBA
• Your institution will be responsible for preparing and delivering a co-branded academic diploma to
recipients
• Recipients will be sent two e-mails from IIBA:
o A congratulatory e-mail from IIBA requesting for their consent to be included in the IIBA Academic
Diploma Recipient Registry
o An instructional e-mail on accessing their free one-year of IIBA membership. Upon receipt of this
e-mail, students have 6 months to access their one-year free IIBA membership.
