3.3 Installation of Main Cabinet Unit & Power Supply Unit

3.3.1 Installation of Main Cabinet Unit
The Main Cabinet Unit& Power Supply Unit are usually hung on the wall or pillar of the cab, but the right location
should be discussed with captain to decide as the specific situation differs on different vessels. The exact
orientation and drill work could be taken into practice when the approximate position for hanging the main cabinet
unit is fixed. The steps are as following:
⑴ Mark the point for screw hole of the main cabinet and reservation area for the inner traverse line of the lateral
cover of the main cabinet by a pencil;
Remark: A rectangular hole of 50cm2 will be required.
⑵ Drill the holes by electric drill and fix the screw by proper tools.

4 Collection and Connection for NMEA Signals

4.1 Collection and Connection for GPS
Please use RS232←→RS422 serial-port converter and one side of converter can be directly connected on 9 needle
serial-port (Please install firstly Replay Software on your computer, you can refer to Operation Manual for the
installation of the software, and then double click "VDRConfig" shortcut on the computer. Please change baud rate
to 4800 when GPS signal is commissioned using the software. Actually, besides AIS baud rate is 38400, others
such as GPS, GYRO COMPASS, SPEED LOG etc. are all 4800 which accords with IEC61162-1 standard.). Firstly
Multimeter is used to measure signal voltage of GPS signal output. Attention: this is a DC change voltage with
upper limit of around 3.5——11V, and following AIS、GYRO COMPASS、SPEED LOG etc. are the same which is
different because of equipment. If test voltage is within the range, the two lines on other side of serial-port
converter is connected on GPS signal output to commission.

Standard sentence for GPS is $GPZDA, $GPGLL.
