Introduction to Hi-Tech Gaskets

Hi-Tech Gaskets was founded in 2012 as a subsidiary of Hi-Tech Seals.
We are guided by the same founding principles of quality, inventory
and service. Since our establishment, we have invested substantially into
equipment that provides a key service advantage.

Manufacturing Gasket Catalogue
LaserQC®
Hi-Tech Gaskets employs a Virtek LaserQC® 1200 machine. The LaserQC®
assists in reverse engineering, quality inspection/control and statistical
process control.
2D Reverse Engineering
The LaserQC® 1200 aids in the reverse engineering of existing parts or tem-
plates. This process starts with the scanning of existing parts or templates to
capture their complete profile. The data is stored as a CAD data file. From this
file our drafting department can manipulate the scanned data to remove flaws
and optimize the tolerances for production. Our drafting team can then export
the file directly to our flashcutter or waterjet for rapid gasket production.
Quality Inspection / Control

The LaserQC® is also utilized to complete manufacturing inspections. It cap-
tures over 500 data points a second, while maintaining a tolerance within ±
0.05mm (0.002”). The system then compares your production drawing to your
final product. The scanned profile is displayed in a color-coded outline, which is
used to indicate what, if any, of the profile scanned is out of tolerance.
Statistical Process Control

Inspection data from the LaserQC® 1200 is saved and can be used to generate
reports for traceability and statistical analysis meeting quality requirements.
This information can also be used internally to make production improve-
ments to ensure quality products and reduced lead times.

With the use of our waterjet, we are able to cut various types of metal components from 1/64” shims up to 2” thick plate.
Metal Identification
Hi-Tech Gasket has a Bruker S1 Sorter (XRF spectrometer) capable of instantly identifying the alloy composition of a metal
component. The XRF spectrometer device can be utilized for both inspection and identification purposes. Once a metal com-
position is identified we can recommend a replacement gasket. Identification is key for flange and gasket design, as your gasket
material must be composed of a material more willing to deform under load, to prevent damage of your flange.

Equipment
Flashcutter
Hi-Tech Gaskets’ flashcutter is capable of utilizing CAD renderings to quickly produce
gaskets in rubber, plastic and composite materials. The flashcutter’s surface area can
accommodate material up to 5’ x 10’ (1550 mm x 3050 mm).
Gaskets are cut through a rapid vertical reciprocating motion. The cutting motion
produces a cleaner finished part, avoiding compression marks found on die-cut gas-
kets. The flashcutter’s vacuum surface holds the sheet material in place preventing
the movement of parts during production. This enables the flashcutter to maintain
exceptional tolerances during production.
Waterjet
The Omax waterjet further expands our manufacturing capabilities.
The waterjet cuts the standard composite and rubber materials, but
also allows us to manufacture metal gaskets up to 2” thick. The water-
jet working surface area is 60” x 135”. Gaskets that require a larger work
surface area can be produced in a dovetail style.
Die Cut
Hi-Tech Gaskets utilizes both a clicker press and roller press to produce
die cut gaskets. Dies are manufactured locally and stored in house.

rapidly plot the dimensions of your gasket on our LaserQC®. Our drafting team will adjust the dimensions to remove flaws, then
send the CAD file to our production team. From there, we will select the best material from our extensive inventory of sheet stock.

Polyurethane Test Gaskets
Hi-Tech Seals manufactures polyurethane ring joint gaskets for application testing. The polyurethane ring joint gaskets are an ef-
fective and non-damaging method for testing gland the before use. The uniquely shaped profile energizes the seal in the groove
under pressure, replicating a stainless steel R or BX ring joint gasket. Hi-Tech Seals’ polyurethane test gaskets last up to 100 test
runs at 15,000 PSI.
Rubber Coated Test Gaskets
Rubber coated ring joint test gaskets are used to test flanges before service. The rubber coating avoids
potentially damaging metal-to-metal contact. Rubber coated test gaskets are an economical option
over the polyurethane test gaskets. With proper handling, rubber coated test gaskets can be used in
several tests.

to the serrated surface which forms the sealing element. The serrated surface prevents movement of the seal within the flange,

characteristics.

Bolt protectors insulate the threading and/or nut from its surrounding environment. The specially formulated low-density
polyethylene compound contains volatile corrosion inhibitors (VCI). The VCIs slowly release from the elastomer in the form of
vapour, which provides improved corrosion resistance. Protection of the nut and threading will allow for easier dismantlement of
the flange for general maintenance. Caps are reusable and will last up to several years.

Extractors
Braided packing is a rope like material which is cut into rings that wrap around the rod. Once installed the compression force
generated by tightening of the gland produces radial pressure. Since braided packing expands radially when compressed, the gland
tolerances can be more flexible than when using vee packing.
Hi-Tech Gaskets distributes braided packing based on weight, measured in pounds. However, Arochem, Kombilon, Univerdit,
Carbosteam and Ramilon are distributed in kilograms units. If you would like the estimated feet/pound of specific materials please
contact Hi-Tech Gaskets.
Braided packing is available in imperial and metric sizes.

PTFE, Expanded -268°C to 316°C
Joint sealant is composed of 100% virgin expanded PTFE. Expanded PTFE provides near universal resistance and good compress-
ibility. The joint sealant rope has an adhesive peelable tape on one side, allowing for easy installation. Joint sealant is suitable for
FDA applications.
Hi-Tech Gaskets distributes joint sealant by the spool. Spool length varies based on the cross-section.

Glass
Redline gauge glass is typically used in low pressure boilers, reservoirs and tank applications. The redline gauge glass features a red
stripe and a white stripe. In the presence of a colourless fluid the red and white line magnifies and highlights the fluid level.

Mud Plug Kits

Mud plug kits are an all-in-one package used in field or plant shut
downs during hot tie-ins. The mud mixture prevents the migration
of lazy gas in the pipelines. Once service is complete, the mud can
be washed away cleanly and safely

Boiler Gaskets
Hi-Tech Gasket supplies specialty boiler gaskets in Blue-Max®
and Black-Max® styles. Boiler gaskets are manufactured in
oval, obround, rectangular, round, and square shapes.
Blue-Max®
Blue-Max® gaskets were developed as a substitute for
asbestos gaskets. They are composed of a tacky cloth of
glass, synthetic fibres, and brass wire, impregnated with a
blue elastomer compound. The product is then coated in
a PTFE material.
Black-Max®
The Black-Max® gasket is composed of graphite with mul-
tiple layers of stainless steel 316 foil inserts. The gasket is
fit for service in -240°C to 454°C in oxidizing atmospheres
and 650°C in steam service.
Pipe Roller
Polyurethane is an ideal material for wear and bearing sur-
faces. Hi-Tech Seals’ urethane division manufactures custom
pipe rollers.
PTFE Tape
PTFE tape is an ultra-thin material typically used to seal pipe
threads. The material provides near universal chemical resis-
tance.

Tank Stripping
The neoprene strip material is used to seal between bolted
panels on tanks. The strip comes with half inch bolt holes
spaced two inches apart from bolt centre. The material is
1-3/4” wide by 75 feet, available in various thicknesses. The
most common thickness is 1/8”.
Chime Lap Gaskets

Available in Nitrile and EPDM.
Fillet Strip
Fillet, also known as Radii gaskets, are sold in strips or cut to
length. Gaskets are available in Nitrile and EPDM.

vessels, or facilities to measure and identity components.
Service charges are a $65.00/hour measuring fee and a $0.60 /
KM millage fee. Once the gaskets are identified our team can

gathered for future use.
After Hours
Hi-Tech Gaskets has a sales representative available 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week to serve you. You can reach our after-hours
service by dialing 780.438.6055. Our after-hours charges are
$100.00 per call in, provided we can service you. After-hours Hi-Tech
machining charges are $100.00 per call in, and an additional
$175.00 per hour of labour, with a minimum of one hour
labour charge. Hi-Tech Gaskets reserves the right to change
after ho
pricing without notice. Our regular service hours are 8:00 am
to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

Gasket kits can increase the ease of reordering. Hi-Tech
Gaskets can prepackage and stock your gaskets, nuts, studs,

Since 1999, Hi-Tech Seals has offered in-house rubber & plastic machining services.
Machining facilities are located in Edmonton, AB and Winnipeg, MB. Customers
can select from one of our pre-programmed seal profiles, or create a custom seal
by providing a sample or drawing. With the help of our experienced machining,
sales, drafting and engineering staff, we can quickly design and manufacture new
prototype parts in a matter of hours without expensive tooling charges.

Hi-Tech Seals has several CNC lathes, multiple NC machines, milling and live tooling capabilities at our disposal. Hi-Tech Seals is
capable of creating custom parts with profiles ranging from ¼” (6mm) inside diameter and up to as large as 29” (737mm) outside
diameter.

Cast Urethane
Hi-Tech Seals’ cast urethane division is centrally located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Cast urethane parts are utilized as a replacement
for previously used plastic, rubber or metal components. This versatile material can allow for lighter, quieter and longer lasting
products. Polyurethane’s excellent physical characteristics can save you money by increasing wear resistance, providing less down-
time and by having less product breakage.
Mold Making
Our cast urethane division utilizes a 3D printer to

create scale models of components. The process
allows us to have full control of our mold devel-
opment and it allow us to reduce expensive tool-
ing charges.

Types of Urethane
When creating a customized urethane product we can select from two main types
of Polyurethane. The two main types of Polyurethane are Polyethers and Polyesters.
Polyesters: Polyethers:

Durometer
We can maintain the urethanes toughness and resilience while producing a polyurethane as soft as 30 Shore A to as hard as 87 D.
