Exam Requirements
Considering that the Praxis Core Exam measures academic skills in reading, writing and
mathematics, individuals considering on becoming educators must take each subject exam. In
order to be able to be admitted into a university in Nevada, such as, UNLV, NSC, or UNR, and
be able to enter their teacher preparation programs, each candidate must successfully pass the
Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators test. To continue a bachelor’s degree in education,
“many states also require Praxis Core scores as part of their teacher licensing process”.
Exam Preparation
Prior to taking the Praxis Core exam practice test, I purchased a study textbook which
has been highly recommended by several professors and even my university advisor called
Praxis Core for Dummies. I studied the book and did several practice questions similar to the
ones in the real exam. A CSN math tutor also recommended me an online resource called,
teachersprep.com. It was very helpful to be able to use such resource which provides many tips
and recommendations on what to expect in the real exam. My education professor also provided
me with additional links where I can get better prepared for the test.
Exam Results
After completing the mathematics practice test, I received a 58%. I tried my hardest to
solve and answer each question correctly, which is why I was very surprised to see my total
Praxis Core Exam Analysis 3
score because I thought I did a lot better than that. This mean I have some improvement to do.
What I was most shocked about was to see the final score for the reading practice test. After
completing the reading practice test, my final score was 28%. Initially, my main concern was
mathematics, but after seeing both outcomes, I know I got major studying to do.
(I just took the real Praxis Core Exam two weeks ago which passed the writing exam both parts
questions and two essays which is why I did not do the practice test on teachers prep. I will
provide and submit a copy of my Praxis results to show the passing score for writing).
To better prepare for the Praxis Core exam and be able to pass, I need a lot more
studying. Since I already took the combined Praxis Core Exam (5751), and was only able to pass
the writing portion, I will focus on the remaining portions individually (mathematics and
reading) individually and only take one test at a time. To be better prepared, I will put more
effort in studying and reading my Praxis Core for Dummies textbook at least three more times
and review two days prior to taking the test. Also, I will go over the links provided by my
professor again. I will go to a campus library away from easy distractions (like kids), and study
every day. For the moment I don’t plan on taking the C-BEST exam as an alternative. I will feel
more accomplished successfully passing the Praxis Core exam for educators.
