Cbeyond SIP Trunk Configuration Guide

1 Introduction
This configuration guide describes how to configure an Avaya IP Office 8.1 for connectivity to the
Cbeyond SIP Trunking service. The deployment model covered in this application note is CPE to PSTN
via Cbeyond SIP Trunking.

Testing was performed by Tekvizion Labs, an independent testing and certification facility, in accordance
to Cbeyond’s SIP Trunk Validation Test Plan. Key features verified are:

• New services install processes.

• Basic inbound and Outbound calls
• Call Forwards
• Call Transfers
• DTMF

The configuration of Avaya IP Office detailed in this document is based on a lab environment with a
simple dial-plan used to ensure proper interoperability between Cbeyond’s SIP network and Avaya IP
Office. The configuration described in this document details the critical commands to have enabled for
interoperability to be successful.

This Application Note details the configuration used for connectivity to the CBEYOND Service. This
document serves as guidance for the integration, but does not guarantee interoperability for every use
case or release combinations.

1.1 SIP Registration Method

Cbeyond Network requires SIP REGISTER support to allow the IP-PBX to originate calls from the IP-
PBX and to send calls to the PBX from the PSTN. Avaya IP Office supports SIP Register with
authentication. Cbeyond implementation team provides the Pilot number and the authentication key,
which should be provisioned in the Avaya IP Office. How to configure these in the Avaya IP Office are
shown in Section 4.2.

3 System Components
3.1 Hardware Components
• Avaya IP Office 500
• Avaya 5410 Digital Phones
• Cisco Router

3.2 Software Requirements

• Software Load: Avaya IP Office 8.1(73)

3.3 Features
3.3.1 Features Supported
• RFC 3261 support
• Calling number presentation / restriction
• Call transfer (attended and unattended)
• Call hold and resume
• Call forwarding

3.3.2 Features Not Supported

• Avaya IP office does not support blind transfer to PSTN. If the DUT complete transfer by on-
hook before hearing the ring back from the 2nd leg of the call, the 2nd leg of the call is dropped
and 1st leg of the call still remain on-hold. If the DUT transfer the call when the ring back is
heard from 2nd leg of the call, the transfer is successful.
• Standalone Avaya IP Office does not support centralized voicemail system.

3.4 Caveats
• Caller ID for call forwarding scenarios. Test cases 4.1 and 4.4. With PAI set to “Use Internal
Data” under SIP URI of SIP Line in Avaya IP office which is the setup for entire test
between Avaya IP Office and Cbeyond, IP Office user’s 10 digits DID number is displayed
on the forward-to destination PSTN phone. If we set the PAI to “None”, the only difference
in outgoing SIP INVITE is without PAI header and the original PSTN caller ID is displayed
on the forward-to destination. Once call is answered two way audio is present.
• Inband DTMF test cases. Test cases 8.1 and 8.3 Cbeyond needs to set their PSTN gateway to
Inband in order to test this functionality.
• REFER was disabled at Avaya IP Office due to interaction issue with Cbeyond.
