1 Overview
The LCT software consists of the components NE specific LCT/NCT control SW ("LCT-ASW") and NE
UniGATE for LCT and NCT respectively. Additionally, the corresponding drivers must be installed if
the Ethernet Interface is to be used, and the system must be configured accordingly. This ReadMe
File describes the installation of the component NE UniGATE for both LCT and NCT. The sequence of
installation of the other components should correspond to the sequence of this document.
· Installation of the Ethernet Adapter Driver (only if it is planned to use this interface,
i.e. for NE access via Ethernet or FTP).
· Installation of TMN-DCP OSI Stacks
· Installation of Siemens NE-UniGATE
· Installation of the NE specific control SW for the LCT/NCT

Throughout this document, keystrokes to be input by the user are printed in italics.

2 Installation of the Ethernet Adapter Driver

Please follow the directions of the manufacturer of your Ethernet card.

3 Installation of TMN-DCP OSI Stacks

See file README on the diskette "TMN-DCP OSI Transport" included in the EtherSet of the
LCT/NCT.

Please note:
Update an existing old OSI stack prior to installing NE UniGATE.
To do this, first uninstall the old OSI stack ("Add/Remove Software" icon in control panel).
Install the new OSI stack afterwards.

Along with the UniGATE, the tool OSI Traceroute will be copied into directory
C:\Program Files\Tools. Please read file OtracerouteEnglish.html for information about
how to install and use it.

4 Installation of Siemens NE UniGATE

These instructions describe how to install the NE UniGATE of the LCT or NCT ("SW-Kernel").

4.1 Installation Requirements

Minimum System requirements:
CPU: commonly available Pentiumä PC,
at least Pentiumä 90 MHz
RAM: 64 MB
Hard Disk Drive HDD: 200 MB (for LCT)
500 MB (for NCT)
Required free HDD space for inst.:
10 MB, additionally approx.
50 MB for SW Download of the NE SW
Operating system: Microsoft® Windows® 98
Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0 with Service Pack 4, or above
Microsoft® Windows® 2000

Apart from the hard disk space required by the application, the installer itself requires to have
(temporarily) additional free space on hard disk (used as "work" space) of about 8 MB.
In sum, there are at least 18 MB needed.

For installation, use either the set of 3.5-inch diskettes or the CD-ROM of UniGATE V6.1 (LCT or
NCT).

4.2 The Installation Procedures

Depending on the existence of an UniGATE, the installation shows different behaviors (and
appearances):

First Time Installation or Upgrade:

UniGATE V6.1 does not exist. It will be installed for the first time.
Or older versions do exist (V3, V4, V5) and have to be upgraded. Procedure: see 4.3

Maintenance Installation: Modify Mode

UniGATE V6.1 does already exist but the user wants to modify it (include/exclude components).
Procedure: see 4.4

Maintenance Installation: Repair Mode

UniGATE V6.1 does already exist but the user wants to re-install it the very same way it had been
before. Procedure: see 4.5

Maintenance Installation: Remove Mode

UniGATE V6.1 does already exist. The user wants setup to uninstall it completely. Procedure: see 4.6

Pure Remove Mode (only if called from the ”Add/Remove Software” icon from the Control Panel):
The user wants definitely uninstall an installed UniGATE V6.1. Procedure: see 4.7

Update Mode
If setup detects that the version number of the UniGATE V6.1 to be installed is higher than that of the
already existing UniGATE V6.1. Procedure: see 4.8

4.3 First Time Installation or Upgrade

The installation program automatically executes the installation of the program NE UniGATE under
Windows. It copies and unpacks all necessary files into the corresponding directories and adapts the
system to fit the LCT/NCT application.

1. Starting the Installation

2. Search for previously installed older versions of the NE UniGATE
and compare versions. Uninstall any existing V3...V5.x UniGATE.
3. Select destination directory (use default directory if possible).
4. Copy the NE UniGATE files, backing up files
5. Copy the system libraries.
6. Generate or adapt entries in the Windows' registration data base.
7. Create a folder and an entry in Windows' start menu.
8. If applicable, restart the computer.

Hint when installing from diskettes:

Due to the order in which certain files are arranged on the installation diskettes, the setup routine may
not request the last diskette. This does not indicate an error or incomplete installation. It merely
indicates that the files on the last diskette (mostly system libraries) already exist on your computer
and are of the correct version number and date. Installing the files from the last diskette is therefore
not necessary in this case.

4.3.1 Starting
- if shipped on diskettes -
Insert Diskette #1 into the 3.5" floppy drive (usually called Drive A:). If your floppy drive is designated
differently, or if your computer has more than one floppy drives, be sure to note the name of the drive
you are using.
Hint: If there is a request to change diskettes please use just the same drive.

- if shipped on CD-ROM -
Insert the CD-ROM into the appropriate drive of the computer and note the drive name (eg. D: ).

Click the "Start" button of the task bar (you will find it usually in the lower left corner of the screen)
and select "Run". Then, key-in:
<Drive>\Setup.exe (replace <Drive> by your drive's name)
and press the OK button.
Examples: A:\Setup.exe
D:\Setup.exe

The installation program may also be started by double clicking the file Setup.exe using the explorer.
After starting and loading the installation program, a welcome logo appears.

To successfully start the installation program, some files will be copied to your hard disk. The amount
of required space (during start-up) is about 1 MByte – the approximate size can be obtained from the
”setup.ini” file (look for the name ”FreeDiskSpace=”) of the first installation media. The environment
variable TMP or TEMP that may have been set in an existing autoexec.bat file determines the target
directory for these files.

If this variable is undefined, files will be copied into \TMP or \TEMP. If you have more than one hard
disk or more than one logical partition, this directory relates to the hard disk that contains the
Windows operating system.

If the needed space on the hard disk is not available the installation program will immediately abort.

You will be guided through the installation. Please follow the instructions given on screen. Dialogue
boxes containing a "Back" button allow you to return to a previous dialogue, e.g. to alter user input.

4.3.2 Searching for previously installed NE specific control SW component

If an older Version (V3, V4, V5.0, V5.1, V6.0) of the NE UniGATE software was already installed on
your PC, you will be asked if you want to replace (overwrite) the existing version. Answering "No" will
abort the installation. If the detected version is newer than the version you are attempting to install,
you must expressly confirm the overwriting by the older version.

Setup prevents from having more than one NE UniGATE installed at the same time: In case the
existing NE UniGATE is of version 4, 5.x, or 6.0, setup launches their uninstall routine to remove the
old version. In case the existing NE UniGATE is of version 3 (this version does not own an
uninstaller), setup will delete its .exe files only if they are located under
<boot_drive_name>:\Program Files.

By all means, important files will be backed up before launching the uninstaller of a previous version
(see 4.3.4).

This will happen prior to copying NE UniGATE 6.1 files onto hard disk.

4.3.3 Select destination directory

Select the installation directory. If the NE UniGATE software has previously been installed on the
computer its installation directory will be set as the default. You can specify another directory. Use the
"Browse" button to navigate easily along the file system. If you specify a non-existing directory, it will
be created automatically.

4.3.4 Copying files, backup

The files belonging to the NE UniGATE are copied into the default directory (or into your specified
directory).

In case of a re-installation:
-4 Setup backs up important UniGATE data files to subdirectory "Oldfiles" (based on target directory
of UniGATE V6.1).
-5 The file "Unigate.ini", located in Windows' system directory, is also affected.
-6 If there was already a subdirectory "Oldfiles" of the previous UniGATE version, its contents will be
backed up to subdirectory "Oldfiles.Oldfiles".

4.3.5 Copying System Libraries

To properly run the NE UniGATE, some system libraries (*.dll) are needed. The installation program
will copy them into the Windows' system directory (e.g. C:\WinNT\System32) if they do not already
exist or if the existing libraries are older than the newly-installed ones.

4.3.6 Entries into the Windows' Registry Database

The installation program creates and adapts entries into the Windows' registry database to match the
needs of the installed version.

4.3.7 Extension of the Start menu

Finally, setup creates a program group in the Windows NT Start Menu and places an entry to call NE
UniGATE. If the program group has already existed any previous entries will be removed.

4.3.8 Reboot the computer

The installation program decides itself if a reboot will be necessary. This depends if any files were
used (locked) during the installation process.

4.4 Maintenance Installation: Modify Mode

This mode allows the user to add or remove components to/from the currently installed UniGATE. A
tree view offers the user to select or deselect components.

4.5 Maintenance Installation: Repair Mode

Repair mode repeats the installation of UniGATE as it has happened before. It uses the same target
directory. No changes are available.

4.6 Maintenance Installation: Remove Mode

Remove mode removes all components of the installed UniGATE. Exception: configuration files,
Unigate.ini etc. will not be removed! The user has to prompt the removal (or can abort it).

4.7 Pure Remove Mode

The same as 4.6. This mode will be offered only if called from ”Add/Remove Software” from the
Control Panel. See 7.

4.8 Update Mode

If setup detects that the UniGATE V6.1 to be installed is an update to the already installed UniGATE,
it launches in Update Mode. The user is not allowed to modify the target directory to install because
setup assumes it the same as before. As a feed-back, prior to running the update the user will be
informed about the actions to be done.

5 Starting the Program

The program is started by selecting the menu item 'NE UniGATE' in the menu 'Start -> Programs ->
Siemens NE UniGATE'.

Login:
After starting the program, a login window appears. Please enter the initial values after a new
installation: ADMIN for the user name, and siemens-00 for the password. Both password and user
name are case sensitive.
Important note:
If there was an older UniGATE version installed at the time UniGATE V6.1 will be installed, an
existing file Unigate.ini will be copied into the new location, see 4.3.4.
UniGATE V6.1 will import the passwords as well. That's why the password written above will not be
correct. Use the default passwords of the older UniGATE versions instead, e.g. siemens97,
siemens-99, or siemens-00.
If the previously existed UniGATE was of version 5.x its password will remain!
6 Installation of the NE specific control SW for the LCT/NCT
See file <ElementManagerName>-ReadMe.* on diskette 1 (or CD-ROM respectively) of the NE
specific control SW ("LCT-ASW").

7 Uninstallation
To completely uninstall the UniGATE SW go to the Start button (usually in the lower left corner of the
screen), open "Settings" and select "Control Panel". Double-click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.
Select the entry "UniGATE" and click the "Add/Remove" button. The uninstallation runs automatically,
any conflicts will be reported. All files will be removed – but there is one exception: configuration files,
Unigate.ini etc. will not be removed! The user has to prompt the removal (or can abort it).
