Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Popplet has settings in which the font can be increased, the background color changed and the font color
changed. This can help with students who Visual Impairments.
Popplet allows visuals such as Pictures and Videos to be used. The videos can come from YouTube and could
have subtitles for students who need it.
Lesson idea implementation:
At the beginning of class, students are asked to answer the question that is on the board. This is the pre-
assessment. The question states: What were the three distinct colonial lifestyles? Students will then watch
parts of the YouTube video “13 Colonies: Comparing Regions New England, Middle, and Southern” by Mr.
Raymond’s Civics and Social Studies Academy. The teacher will then draw a table on the board with the
sections Economy, Religion, and Education, and when the students see that one of these is talked about they
will shout “STOP”. The teacher will write down the time of the video and at least one fact. Once the video is
finished, the students will go on their computers and go to the time stamps that the teacher wrote on the
board and create a map using Popplet. Students will make 3 subjects (North, Mid-Atlantic, South) and have
each one have 3 sub sections (Education, Economy, Religion). In the end, some students will present their
map in front of the class.
The lesson should take 40 minutes. 10 minutes for the Pre-assessment, 15 minutes for the Video, 15 minutes
for the mind map. If students have correct format and at least 21 bubbles (with some pictures), they will
receive full credit. Students will submit their Popplets to the teacher and the teacher will grade them and give
feedback to the students the next day. The students will have time in class to fix any mistakes/add on to the
Popplet.

Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tools (BBPT)

This activity can really impact student learning because students create a product using all of the resources
available to them. This increases the Bloom’s Level to 6. When this activity is complete, students be divided
into 3 groups and will have to act out these roles in front of the class. This will be a summative activity for the
Unit. To increase the LoTi level, the Popplets will be posted to the classroom website so that anyone could see
the work that the students have created.
