Chapter I

INTRODUCTION

A few people may stumble into financial security. But for most people, the only

way to attain financial security is to save and invest over a long period of time. You just

need to have your money work for you. That’s investing.

Knowing how to secure your financial well-being is one of the most important

things you’ll ever need in life. You don’t have to be a genius to do it. You just need to

know a few basics, form a plan, and be ready to stick to it. There is no guarantee that

you’ll make money from investments you make. But if you get the facts about saving

and investing and follow through with an intelligent plan, you should be able to gain

financial security over the years and enjoy the benefits of managing your money.

Investing is where you use money to (hopefully) make more money. You can run

a business. You can put the money in the bank to earn interest. You can buy something

valuable, such as an antique or a rare coin, and sell it later. You can buy a share in a

company (such as on the stock exchange): They can pay dividends (regular payments

to you based on their profit). AND you can sell the stock later, maybe for a higher price.

You can ... well there are lots of choices for investing money.

But what are the most effective types of investment? What is the people’s

perspective about investment, and how many would prefer to invest in a business, in

stocks and in shares?

DATA ANALYSIS

Methodology

This part of chapter includes the research design, locale of the study, sample

size, research instruments, data gathering procedure, data analysis and definition of

terms.

Research Design

The study will use a descriptive type of research design and quantitative

research method. A descriptive research design is concerned to provide

comprehensive or in depth description of basic information about the population at a

particular point in time. The quantitative research method seeks to collect and provide

information that can be tabulated in a numerical form.

Locale of the Study

The locale of the study is within the City of General Santos. General Santos City

is in the south-western part of the island of Mindanao. It has 26 barangay`s and it lies

at the southern part of the Philippines. It is located at 6°7'N 125°10'E latitude.

The city is south-east of Manila, south-east of Cebu and southwest of Davao.

The city is bounded by municipalities of Sarangani Province namely Alabel in the

east, and Maasim in the south. General Santos is likewise bounded by the South

Cotabato municipality of Polomolok and Sarangani Province municipality of Malungon in

the north, and the municipality of T'boli in the west. The map of General Santos City is

presented below:

Figure 1. Locale of the Study

Sample Size

The researchers will have a total of 50 respondents selected randomly.

Research Instrument

Survey questionnaires would be used to come up with specific answers to the

statement of the problem. This study would use one (1) questionnaire. The

questionnaire for each type of respondents would have the same content for the

researchers to come up with needed data or information from them. Respondents will

only have to answer the questionnaire base on their preference or choices given.

For respondents the questions to be use will allow the researchers to identify the

different factors that they consider in starting an investment. It will also determine what

the priority of each respondent is.

Data Gathering Procedure

To gather the necessary information, surveys will be conducted to the different

respondents within General Santos City. Since we will use simple random sampling

technique, it gives all the sampling units’ equal chances of being included as sample.

The respondents who are willing to participate in the data gathering will be guided by

the researchers in answering the questionnaire.

Data Analysis

The answers on the questionnaire will be analyzed using the percentage

frequency method as well as the estimate of central tendency.

A percentage frequency distribution is a display of data that specifies the

percentage of observations that exist for each data point or grouping of data points. It is

a particularly useful method of expressing the relative frequency of survey responses

and other data. Many times, percentage frequency distributions are displayed as tables

or as bar graphs or pie charts. The process of creating a percentage frequency

distribution involves first identifying the total number of observations to be represented;

then counting the total number of observations within each data point or grouping of

data points; and then dividing the number of observations within each data point or

grouping of data points by the total number of observations.

While the estimate of central tendency will determine the mean, median and

mode of a particular data. It is first tabulated in the frequency distribution table then

determine through this formula:

∑ 𝐹𝑀
Mean : 𝑛

𝑛
Median : 𝐿𝑏𝑚 + (2 − 𝑐𝑓|𝑓) 𝑖

CONCLUSION

Investment is an action that needs to have a good decision since whatever the

outcome will be you have your own self to rely on. People intend to do investment in

different kinds and types. The risk and reward of investment should be known before

you enter into an agreement or contract. Many individual is not a risk taker, means they

prefer to do not have it at all. But to some risk takers, if they do investment they prefer

to have the higher risk investment with a higher interest rate.

Nowadays, many individual especially young go for online trading, where they

are the one handling the risk. Regardless of these many types, we should take care of

our future by investing money at an early age.

As we can observe, the ages been gathered is between 16 to 30 years of age.

Meaning, as early as 16 we can start investing for old age.

Let’s invest for the betterment of our future.
