Review (10 mins)

Ask:
1. What are the three types of physical activities?
Possible answer

2. Give some examples for each type of physical activities.

Possible answers
(Aerobic Activities-dancing, walking, running, etc.)
(Muscle strengthening activities- weight lifting, working with resistance band, heavy gardening, climbing stairs,
hill walking, cycling, push-ups, sit-ups and squats, etc.)
(Bone strengthening Activities-skipping rope, running, basketballs, etc.)

3. What are the proper etiquette and safety in the use of facilities and equipment?
Possible answers:
1. Take care in using facilities and equipment.
A. Activity 2. Use only the equipment that we already know how to operate.
3. Be alert and aware in the training area.
4. In performing exercise and movement in general, practice good from first.
5. Bring back all equipment in place after use.
6. Do not hug the equipment.
7. Return the equipment properly, and leave the venue clean.
8. Check your self – practice proper personal hygiene and care.
9. Move on the double; do not loiter around the venue or hang on the equipment doing nothing.
10. As a general rule, always be nice.

Introductory Activity
Activity 1 (5 mins)
Let the students do the 5 minutes’ simple exercise, guided by teacher.
(E.g. Marching, jumping, jogging, stretching, walking)

The teacher will ask the following questions.

1. Which exercise exerts less effort and energy? Which exerts more?
Possible answers
(less effort and energy-walking, marching, stretching)
(more effort and energy-jogging, jumping)

2. Which exercise consumes less time? Which consumes more?

Possible answers
(less time-jumping, stretching)
(more time- jogging, walking, marching

Activity 2 :(20 mins)

Let’s Get Energized
Directions:
1. Divide the class into 5 groups.
2. Each group will choose their group leader and a reporter.
3. Ask each group to pick a strip of paper and paste the physical activities on the manila paper given to them on
which energy system it belong.
4. After five minutes the reporter will present their work.

Refer to Activity 2, Sheet No1

Checking and answering Activity (30 mins)
Ask
1. Did you enjoy the activity?
Possible answer: Yes

2. How did you find the activity? Why?

Possible answer: quite challenging, confusing,

3. What helps you to come up with those answers?

Possible answer: through collaborative efforts of our group
B. Analysis Advance reading

4. What do you think are the importance of different physical activities?

Possible answer: Make us fit and healthy, achieve our desire body posture

Anaerobic A- Anaerobic Aerobic Energy System

Lactic System Lactic System
Chinese Garter 2 mins jogging Long distance swimming
Jumping Relay Zumba
Luksong Tinik Patentero
Disco The teacher will guide the students in
Playing Volleyball checking their work.
The answers

Ask
1. What have you observe to the lists of activities listed on each Energy System?
Possible answer
In Column of Anaerobic A-Lactic System the activities are done in a short time, in column of Anaerobic Lactic
System done in a longer time and in column of Aerobic Energy System done in a longest time.

2. What do you think among the activities exerts more energy? Which exerts less?
Possible answer
Exerts more Chinese Garter, Jumping, Luksong Tinik
Exerts less Long distance swimming, Zumba, Patentero ,Disco, Playing Volleyball

3. Any idea on what is optimizing energy?

Possible answer: No

Discussion: (30 mins)

Our body needs specific amount of energy when we do physical activities. When we exercise, a low or high
amount of energy is supplied to muscles depending on the duration, intensity, and nature of the exercise.
The food that we eat is source of energy. Eating before doing exercise can contribute to performance.
There is a complex chemical process called cellular respiration in which our body takes in food and uses it to
convert and produce adenosine triphosphate(ATP). ATP supplies energy to muscle cells for muscular
construction during physical activity. Creatine phosphate (CP), like ATP restored in the muscles cells. When it
C. Abstraction broken down, a large amount of energy is released.

The Three Energy System

1. Anaerobic A-Lactic or ATP-CP is a dominant source of muscles energy for high intensity physical activities. It
provides high bursts of startup energy that lasts around ten seconds or less. ATP-CP provides immediate energy
without requiring any oxygen(anaerobic) and does not produce lactic acid (a-lactic).

Examples:
Shot Put, Weight lifting, and 100- meter sprint
2. Anaerobic Lactic (Glycolytic) Energy System- is also known as the glycolytic energy system, an energy
system that supplies energy for medium to high intensity physical activities. This high intensity activity usually
last from ten seconds to two minutes.

Examples:
400 meter sprints

3. Aerobic Energy System- provides energy for low intensity physical activities that last from two minutes to few
hours.

Examples:
Long distance swimming, running and playing sports (basketball, soccer and futsal)

The three energy system work together as we exercise. However, a specific energy system can dominate
depending on the intensity and of type of activity that is being done.
It is important to understand that all energy systems are active. Each energy system changes during the
activity depending on its duration and intensity. Therefore, once we engage in physical activities or sports, all
three energy systems maybe in use but in varying degrees.

Summary
Energy System Intensity Duration Lactic Acid Oxygen Requirement Examples

Anaerobic A High Last 10 seconds Does not produce Does not require Shot put, 100-meter
Lactic or less lactic acid oxygen sprint
Anaerobic Lactic Medium to high Last 10 seconds Produces lactic Does not require 400 to 800 meter

Aerobic Energy Low Last 2 minutes Does not produce Requires oxygen 3-km rum, long
System to a few hours lactic acid distance swimming,
playing sports(e.g.
basketball, football,
futsal)

Direction:
1. The teacher will instruct the students to return to their group again.
2. Each group will think and discuss common activities they have done at home or in school.
D. Application 3. After five minutes, let the group perform at least three common activities to each energy system in the class.
