5. Inputs Validation
All the inputs received are validated against the check list - “NDD Input Check List_V1.xls” for any
mismatches like missing of details or any discrepancies. All the discrepancies are noted and
communicated to the client Project wise.
1) Check and validate for proper inputs in detail. If any of the input is missing the same need to
be informed to the client within 12hrs of input receipt and check for the missing data is
available with the client. Based on the client’s response we may have to reject the job
2) ** Review the complete Design Brief and NDD documents to understand high level scope of
the project.
3) Check and validate whether Filed schematic is available in DWF or DWG format
4) Check and validate whether proposed design MapInfo data is available for the design
5) Check and validate whether proposed design Field Inspection Report is available
6) Check and validate the Survey Return Pack for updated Mark-up Plan and Field Schematic
drawing with Field surveyor comments duly filled as required
7) Check and validate whether Survey Photos are available as required
8) Check and validate whether Field Inspection Report is filled by the surveyor with required
data
9) ** Check and validate the Power Plan Details are available, if not just Reject and inform
Client
10) Check and validate for any related NE project details are available
11) Check and validate for any adjacent BH Designs required for this project
12) Unless complete inputs are received team may reject the job but team may carry on with
available input if possible.

6. Design Process
Below are the detailed step by step process and the corresponding Design rules to be followed during
the design process.
1. Review the complete Design Brief and NDD documents to understand high level scope of the
project.

2. Convert the DWF file available in Field Schematic to DWG format.

3. Install SSC_NBN tool kit in C:\ drive(for beginner only, no need to install for every project)

4. Load nbn_support_infrastructure.lsp from above tool kit for placing the Pits, Ducts, and
Fibre & Labelling.

5. Identify the MSP (POI), TFAN and FDH location in the drawing.

6. Based on Mark up plans in Survey Return Pack and MapInfo data identify the existing duct
(Telstra...) route (Pits & Pipes) to be used.

7. Change the existing duct route( Pits/Manholes and Pipe) that are identified in previous step to
“CPR_UPDATE” Layer, Color-Green and Line type as Continuous.

8. Check for “Breakouts” location and place required NBN Pit and Pipe accordingly in
“Proposed” layer as per surveyor feedback

9. Propose the Pits and Pipes wherever existing pipe network is not available in “Proposed”
layer based on the recommendations of the Survey Return Pack

10. Pit should be placed at every 250m length(min 200 and max 250 m) of the duct and no duct
is more than 250 m in length in newly proposed routes

11. Place relevant Duct Cross Section for each segment in existing Duct only. Not for new duct.

12. Show the Cable Configuration in designated duct as per Field Inspection Report based on the
Occupancy of the Duct

13. Use the Field Surveyor instructions even if the duct occupancy is high

14. Review the proposed location in mark-up plans and photos to place TFAN and FDH

15. Use appropriate blocks to place TFAN and FDH (Standard naming convention to be followed
“3XXX-00-00-TAN-XXXX” &“3XXX-XX-XX-FDH-XXX”). Layer should be as per the Design
rules.
16. Check and refer for any related NE Project Design regarding FDH to Fan route(Distributin
network) and location

17. Check and refer adjacent BH Designs in case of any dependencies.

18. Always place a “9” pit in front of TFAN and FDH as well in all cases.

19. Place a 5m(In case duct length is not given) 2xP100 Pipes from the “9” pit to TFAN

20. Place a 5m(In case duct length is not given) 1xP100 Pipe from the “9” pit to FDH

21. Check and change the existing Pipe Lengths as per Field Return Reports

22. Duct digitisation direction for proposed route should be left to right and bottom to top.

23. Label the proposed pipes in standard format with unique Duct Number in standard format(
“3XXX-00-00-DCT-XXX”)

24. Length of the conduit in should be in metres with 0.0 Precision. So 23 metres conduit will be
captured with suffix “m” like 23.0m

25. Label the Pits in standard format with unique Pit Number(as per the tool)( “3XXX-00-00-PIT-
XXX”).All new Pit symbol should be as per the tool and NBN Standard pit.

26. Start placing the cables as per the design rules exactly over the duct (existing or proposed)

27. The physical cable distance shall not exceed 4200 meter

28. Always run 12f transit cable from MSP to the Pit In front of POI Exchange and it will connect
to last ribbon of 288f

29. Place a Demarcation Joint if required or wherever it is mentioned by the surveyor.

30. Place an appropriate size Transit Cable from there to TFAN

31. Maintenance loops are required to provide for future augmentation including adding splice
closures to existing network and for maintenance activities as suggested in mark-up plans

32. 20m loop is required at change of direction more acute than 90° within manholes/pits

33. At distances no greater than 1000mtr between maintenance coils, splice closures or FAN
Sites

34. 10M loop is required on each side of the splice closure

35. 12F Transit cable will run from the “9” pit located in front of the TFAN to TFAN
36. Place TJLs as required (Standard naming convention to be followed “3XXX-XX-XX-TJL-
XXX”).

37. 72F DSS cable will run from the TFAN to the P9 pit located in front of the TFAN

38. Run appropriate DSS Cable from there to P9 pit located in front of FDH

39. Run 72F HSD cable from FDH to P9 pit located in front of FDH

40. Place DJLs accordingly (Standard naming convention to be followed “3XXX-XX-XX-DJL-

XXX”).

41. Insert block ”CABLE ANNO” for placing the labels of all the cables(Standard naming
convention to be followed “3XXX-XX-XX-TSS-XXX”/ “3XXX-XX-XX-DSS-XXX”) for every
segment.

42. There is no need to place BUMPS in BH Designs like NE for cable annotation

43. Place appropriate SORs as per the installation activities involved (Refer NBN-SOR.xls)

44. Place any constructional notes for Augmentation (building new pits, ducts and manholes etc.)
and Remedial (modifications to the existing ducts, pits & manholes) purposes need to place
note in the design as shown in the markup plan.

45. Using the tool, insert frames (NBN Working Sheet) on the completed drawing. Based on the
density of the design, frame count may increase from one to many.

46. Create SLD (Straight Line Diagram) in a separate frame and update the details

47. Capture the Power Cable Connectivity details in a separate frame based on the inputs and
field survey comments.

48. Update the NBN Title information using the tool “NBN Title Info” (Need to fill the highlighted
template)

49. Automatically after updating Title Info, tool will generate individual drawing windows based on
the number of frames created in the design.

50. Generate the BOQ (Bill of Quantity) using the tool. An excel will be generated based on the
SOR’s placed in the design. (The same will be auto generated in the design) and rename the
xls as per the Project ID.

51. Place this BOQ in first frame.

52. Refer “NBN-NO-GDE-002 Labelling Guidelines Passive Network v5.pdf” for standard
Labelling.

53. Refer “NBN-TE-CTO-484 Type 2 Passive Network Architecture for Temporary Fibre Access
Nodes in New Developments V1.1” for TFAN connectivity details
54. Refer “NBN-TE-CTO-490 Type 2 Architecture Passive Design Rules Ver2.0.pdf” for all other
general network design guidelines.

55. Refer “NBN-SOR.xls” for placement of SORs

56. Refer “NBN-TE-CTO-105 Coding Structures for Physical Elements v3.1” for naming of the
physical components of the Network.

57. Refer “SSC Distribution Centres.xls” for Delivery Address of SSM DC as per State wise.
