Edition 1: document created 18/04/2000 for versions 1.1.A and 1.1.B of the 1660 SM.
These two versions only differ on the EPS protections of the PDH and SDH boards, only carried out in the 1.1.B
version.
Reference documents
During this first phase, the circuits used for the long term transmission tests in the third phase are
defined; qualification of the network depends on the results of these tests. By defining the circuits
as early as possible in the procedure, the various loopbacks involved in the tests can be set up before
leaving the relevant sites (see section 1.2).
The various tests and checks are the responsibility of the supplier who provides the results in the test
sheets appended to this manual.
Connection is carried out in accordance with the phases below, starting from the OMSN used as GNE
(normally) and progressing in the normal direction of the network:
Phase 0: The OMSNs are tested locally but not connected to the line.
OMSN2 OMSN3
OMSN1
OMSN5 OMSN4
OMSN5 OMSN6
OMSN5 OMSN4
It is important for the OMSNs already connected (OMSN1 of phase 2) to be left in their operating
configurations (by loading their MIB from the craft terminal connected to them).

The test results are recorded on sheets with the same numbering appended to this manual. 10/132
Each test therefore has on its test sheet a check box, to be supplemented where appropriate with a
measurement report:
The WITH RESERVATIONS and REJECTED check boxes may be explained in a report at the end of
the document specifying the problems encountered; the number of the report will then be recorded on
the test sheet.
Visual inspection,
Analysis of equipment alarms,
Analysis of alarms supplied by the craft terminal, via the manager application,
Measuring instrument results.
Actions on site:
Before carrying out any visual examination of an optical connector, check that the laser source is off (by
removing the board).
Always cover an optical connector with its protection when no longer used.
When the Forced on mode is no longer justified for an optical port (at the end of a test), revert to ALS
mode.
Use appropriate products for cleaning.
The reference numbers of all available documents must be entered on the test sheet.
Test 1.
The following data is needed to configure the equipment and insert it into the network:
OS and equipment addresses,
Synchronization settings,
SDH port LAPD configuration,
NTP configuration (where appropriate),
RAP configuration (where appropriate),
MESA configuration (where appropriate),
ALS modes of the optical ports,
ASAP alarm profiles.
If the DCS is not available, the configuration data needed to integrate the equipment into the network
must be obtained from the customer.

Record the references and calibration dates of the measuring instruments used on the sheet.
Test 3
Before running the local tests, the equipment configuration should be as follows:
If the equipment is the first of a new rack, the TRU circuit breakers must be tripped and the 48V
output of the power cabinet disconnected,
If the OMSN is to be used as a GNE, the 50 ohm coaxial cable (or flexible cable) must be
positioned but not connected at the router end.
Optical jumpers must be positioned but not connected at the distribution frame end,
If an SSU connection is required, the sync connection between OMSN terminal block and SSU
terminal block at the distribution frame must not be set up.
On the equipment, connect all the signals to their jumpers (PDH, SDH, Q2 interface, service circuit
and other signals).
Connect the remote alarms (top 15-way connector on the CONGI board in slot 10 ) and the –48V
connectors of the 2 CONGI boards to the TRU.
Connect the 9-way connector on the CONGI board

Check the presence and fixing of ground braids, connection and fastening to the Trolley,
Check the position ( upright/level ) and type of terminal block,
To avoid having to disconnect cables, a dynamic test will be carried out on each wired port.
2.3.1 Power up
Only on a new rack!
Note: make sure that the NG alarm above is not masked by an alarm of the same severity on the
equipment.
If the reading differs significantly from this, check the ground connections.
If no voltage is measured (0 mV), check for absence of strap X17A (see Technical Handbook).
Test 5
2.4 Setting up the equipment
For STM1, STM4 and STM16 boards, configure each electrical or optical interface in accordance
with the DCS (see appendix 1).
Configure each optical interface in ALS mode.
The identity of the boards, installed and configured in the craft terminal, is reflected in absence of
any RUTM (replaceable unit type mismatch), RUM (replaceable unit missing) or RUP (replaceable
unit problem) alarms for each corresponding slot in the craft terminal's SR60M view. Alarms other
than the above may appear in the same way on the SR60M view; any ambiguity can be dispelled by
clicking the corresponding slot in the SR60M view: the icons of the above alarm will then become
visible at the bottom of the resulting view. They should be coloured green.
The identity of the interfaces, installed and configured in the craft terminal, is reflected by an
absence of any of the above alarms, which can be verified from the green colour of the respective
1660 SM
icons in the respective interface displays (view: IS11COMMISSIONING MANUAL

2.4.5 Inventory
The Remote Inventory information concerning a board physically installed in the subrack can be
obtained by:
Selecting the appropriate slot in the SR60M view on the craft terminal,
Choosing the Equipment/Remote Inventory/Board level command in the SR60M view.
The Remote Inventory information concerning an electrical or optical interface physically installed in
the subrack can be obtained by:
Selecting the interface in the view of the board of which it is a daughter board (view
obtained directly from the SR60M view).
Activating the Equipment/Remote Inventory/Board level command in the board's view.
Check the consistency of the information with the data in the customer documentation.
Test 8
2.5 Alarms
The results of the tests in sections 2.5.1 and 2.5.2 are combined in sheet 9, and those of section 2.5.3 are
combined in sheet 10.
The alarms generated to check these tests ( inconsistency of the LAPD configurations of two ports
opposite each other - absence of the synchronization signal of the equipment ) have severities ( resp. MIN and
MAJ ) that cannot be modified.
At this point, some equipment alarms ( LOS alarm, for example ) are not indicated on the front panel or
on the craft terminal, because they have a default No alarm profile (ASAP) which gives them a Not alarmed
severity level, for which there is no display or processing provided in the craft terminal applications.
To check that such alarms are registered correctly by their display on the craft terminal or on the
equipment, it is therefore important to assign them a different profile giving these alarms the required severity
(major, minor, etc).
The procedure for assigning a profile and, by extension, a severity to an alarm, is realisable and
described in the appendix, as is how to create a profile with which to assign an alarm a severity not represented
in the existing profiles. This assignment is carried out via a functional window on the craft terminal, so it is
important to carry out the process at the lowest possible level in the window tree structure (in the PDH Port
view: r01s01sl04/port#x-P window, for example, for the LOS alarm on the port). The assignment of a profile
from a higher level view can be masked by the same operation performed at the lowest level, even if this was
done first.
When commissioning is finished, Alcatel recommends the use of profile #10001 in operation. However,
the user can assign a different existing profile or create a new one for operation.

3 CONNECTING OMSNS
TSD/PTS 8AS 29374 0001 UZALA 43/132
When the OMSNs have been connected, it is important to check that the signals received via the
optical interfaces lead to correct operation of the optical interfaces in normal conditions of use.
These checks are carried out in turn, on each optical link, in an order to be defined at the outset (section
2) so that all the links of the network from end to end are subjected to the checks listed above.
The optical margin relative to the sensitivity of the line port is measured over the entire optical link
connecting two OMSNs of the contract.
This margin Mg is expressed as follows:
Mg = Pr – P1
in which Pr is the received power and P1 the sensitivity of the optical port.
Depending on customer requirements, two sensitivity measurements are proposed: the first uses the
measured sensitivity threshold of the receive line port and the second uses its maximum value supplied
by the manufacturer.
The test plugs take account of both methods.
4 NETWORK TESTS
The aim of these tests is to:
check (in the case of first creation) supervision of the equipment by the 1353SH5 and 1354RM5
management systems,
check the protection provided by the equipment (transmission and synchronization).
check, over a 48 hour period, the bit error ratios on the links chosen initially to evaluate
transmission quality on the network.
Since the equipment has previously been configured with its address, the address of the 1353SH5, its
LAPD, MESA and RAP (if appropriate) configurations, the 1353SH5 can access it, supervise it and,
lastly, upload its operating configuration (Supervision/Align up command in the map view).

Disconnect reception on one of the two SDH ports on the A connection.
Check for the " Active " state of the " MSP Protection Status " of the 2 SDH
ports of the B connection ( " Port / Physical Media / MSP Management " ).
After a transitional phase, if necessary, check that transmission between the two
PDH ports is error free.
Reconnect the previous ports. If these are optical ports, wait for the optical link
restoration timer (in ALS mode) to time out to clear the LOS alarms on the link.
Disconnect reception on one of the two SDH ports on the main connection.
Check that this brings no additional error on the link between the 2 PDH ports.
Test 22
4.3 Link SNCP/I protections
These protections are monitored on specified links between PDH ports comprising all or part of the
links chosen for 48 hour qualification testing.
Choose two PDH ports operating at the same bit rate (2, 34 or 140 Mbit/s) on two different NEs,
interlinked by two SDH connections. Between these two ports, create an SNCP/I protected link, in
which each path (protected and protecting) uses one of the connections linking the two NEs.
On the manager system, check the protected path used by the link and that it
has a zero BER.
Disconnect the connection supporting the protected link (or force the Laser Off mode in the case of
an optical port).
On the manager system, check the new path used by the link and that it has a
zero BER after the transitional switchover period.
Reconnect the connection (or restore the ALS mode, depending on circumstances). In the case of
an optical connection, wait for its re-ignition timer to time out before carrying out any further
action.
Note: To avoid having to go to the sites, this test can be carried out by temporarily setting the laser of
the adjacent OMSN to OFF from the manager system. At the same time, check that supervision is
still total with no "equipment failure".
Test 24
The aim of these tests is to monitor transmission quality on the circuits provided at the outset.
Both directions of transmission on these circuits are monitored by a test set connected to one of its
terminal ports in the originating station and with a physical loopback at the far end.
Create the circuits using the 1354RM5 manager.
Connect the test sets to the distribution frame ports selected on the originating station (normally the
GNE station). Each test set must be set to the bit rate and pseudo-random pattern stipulated in the table
in section 2.9.
Check:
that there are no alarms on the manager system,
that there are no errors over a ten-minute period on the test sets before continuing.
Then, proceed as follows:
Clear the maintenance memories of all the NEs.
Reset the counters on the test sets.
Activate the test set printers.
The results of the 24-hour tests on each circuit must comply with the generally accepted thresholds S1
and S2 below:
If each parameter is below S1, the link is accepted,
If one of the parameters is between S1 and S2, a second test must be carried out,
If one of the parameters is greater than S2, the link is unacceptable.
2 Mbit/s S1 1 0
for one path S2 6 1
34 or 45 Mbit/s S1 3 0
for one path S2 10 1
140/155 Mbit/s S1 3 0
for one path S2 12 1
Note: A correction factor K is applied to thresholds S1 and S2 if the ring is swept K times.
To configure an SDH port, display the board supporting the port (view obtained by double-clicking the
slot of the board in the SR60M view ), select the port to be configured and proceed as above.
5.3.1 Severity assigned to the LOS alarm for each of the NE's ASAPs
Use the Configuration/Alarms severities command. The resulting ASAPs Management view gives
the severity assigned to the LOS alarm for each ASAP (#2, #3, #4) available to the NE.
Simply click an ASAP in this view and choose the Detail command. The ASAP Edition view gives
the severity information. ASAPs #2, #3 and #4 are permanently assigned in the NE and cannot be
modified.
If none of these ASAP gives the desired severity to an alarm ( NG severity to a LOS alarm, for
example ), a new ASAP must be created with this severity (see next section on creating a new ASAP).
5.5.2 Manual switch from the protected board to the spare board.
Select the main MATRICE board in the SR60M window, activate the " EPS / Switch " command. In
the resulting " EPS Switch " window, activate the " Switch to " command after the selection of
"Protecting ".
The normal operation of the main MATRICE board

ED 1 Proposal - 10/07/00
First AU4#1 cross-connection of the top optical port on the STM4 board in slot 7 and one of the VC4
ports of the matrix on the SYNTH1 board in slot 9.
Display the transmission window from the EML-USM view (Views/Transmission command).
Choose the Add TP command.
In the resulting TP Search window, display the boards of the equipment in the lefthand part, click
the S41 board in slot 24, specify AU4 & VC4 as the TP Class of the Filter Section and click Search
TP. The list of AU4 TPs on the board is displayed in the righthand part. Select TP
r01sr1sl24/port#01-#01-AU4P and click OK.
The transmission view then shows the AU4#1 icon of the S4.1 board. Click this icon and choose
the Views / Terminate TP command. Clicking the AU4#1 in the Transmission view then displays a
VC4 port of the matrix in slot 23 (the VC4 of port#1 of the matrix in this case), to which the
AU4#1 of the optical port on the S41 board in slot 24 is connected.
The AU4#1 of the optical port on the S41 board in slot 24 is then linked to the first VC4 port
(port#1) of the matrix on the MATRICE board in slot 23.
Set this VC4 to TU12 structure (Views/Structure TP/TU12 command after selecting it).
Second AU4#1 cross-connection of the top port of the STM1 board in slot 9 and one of the VC4 ports
of the matrix on the SYNTH1 board in slot 9.
Proceed as above, replacing the AU4#1 of the optical port on the S41 board in slot 24 with the
AU4#1 of the top optical port on the P4S1 board in slot 25.
The AU4#1 of the top optical port on the S41 board in slot 25 is then linked to the second VC4 port
(port#2) of the matrix on the MATRICE board in slot 23.
Set this VC4 to TU12 structure (Views/Structure TP/TU12 command after selecting it).
