that way, check the forecast before you head out.
We will let you know what’s happening up there as
soon as we have more information.

When you write about how to do
something, put the steps in the
process in a logical order.

Evacuations happen more often than people realize. Sometimes in a weather


emergency, such as a hurricane, you might have a day or two to prepare to leave
1 your home. Other times, in an emergency like a wildfire, you have to leave with
little warning, so it is important to be well prepared.

Next, make sure that you are ready to leave and that your home is secure.
Close and lock doors and windows in your home, and unplug most electrical
appliances. Keep a battery-powered radio and check it frequently to hear the
latest updates and evacuation instructions.

If you are instructed to leave, gather your family and leave immediately to
avoid being trapped by severe weather. Follow recommended evacuation routes.
Do not take any shortcuts.

If you know that an evacuation is likely, here are some things that you can do.
First, make sure that you have transportation. If you have a car, fill it up with
gas. It is best to take just one car per household. Make sure that you have some
emergency supplies with you. Gather emergency food, water, medical supplies,
and blankets. Contact friends and family to let them know your plans.
