Executive Summary

Transportation engineering is a branch of civil engineering that is involved

in the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of safe and efficient
transportation systems. These systems include roadways, railways, waterways,
and intermodal operations. Typically, the demand is the amount of traffic
(people, cars, railcars, barges) that is expected to use a particular transportation
facility, while the supply is the quantity and type of infrastructure components
(roadways, bridges, pavements, etc.). These systems are typically large and
expensive.

Road Intersection is where two or more roads meet and or are the points of
potential vehicle conflict. They are critical element of a road section. They are
normally a major bottleneck to smooth flow of traffic and a major accident
spot. Successful intersection design addresses all mobility and safety goals as well
as opportunities to enhance the public realm.

Batangas City is surrounded by of San Jose and Cuenca to the north, San
Pascual and Bauan to the south, Ibaan, Taysan and Lobo to the east, and Verde
Island to the south. The city covers 283 square kilometers (109 sq mi) of lowland,
mountains, and the island of Isla Verde. Most parts of the city remains rural, and
the population is largely concentrated on the mouth of the Calumpang River.

This study aimed to analyze the traffic on intersection in, to determine the
volume capacity ratio of the road and to know its level of service, and to
recommend plan of actions to help improve the traffic. The researchers believed
that this study will yield to additional knowledge about the present traffic
condition in the area. The results of this study may be considered in the
development of more sufficient traffic management program.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the traffic on intersection in DJPMM
Access Road and Cuta Road. To obtain this purpose, the descriptive method of
research was utilized. It is the purposive process of gathering, analyzing,
classifying, and tabulating data about prevailing conditions, practices, beliefs
and cause-effect relationships. This involves the interpretation of the meaning or
the significance of the described phenomenon.

For this study, traffic count is conducted at each approaching roadways to

determine the traffic volume. Traffic count was done last April 17, 2019 (6:00am-
8:00am and 11:00am-12:00nn). Vehicles will be categorized according to their
type. Traffic count was used to analyze the degree of traffic congestion in each
approaching roadways. Observation was then conducted in the area to find out
the factors which contributes to the traffic problem.

In this study the intersection between the DJPMM Access Road and Cuta
Road are being evaluated. This intersection is a road where many vehicles are
going in different directions. Most of the vehicles are public vehicles because this
is way to pier and to a university school. The problems are identified and
formulated; the following are problems that encountered during the study.

1. Inadequate traffic control.

2. Various commercial establishments on the intersection.
3. Disobedient Drivers.
4. Pollution.
5. Strait Roadway.

To aid this situation, a possible solution is the installation of traffic lights in the

area. Three traffic lights are intended. Another thing observed in the intersection

that causes an interruption of the traffic flow are the pedestrians crossing in the

center of the intersection itself. For this, it is proposed to have pedestrian lanes.

Four pedestrian lanes are intended. This will help lessen the traffic that will occur

at the intersection caused by the pedestrians as well as their safety when crossing.

Along with this, signs indicating the prohibition of j-walking will be added on the

area to inform the people of the proper use of pedestrian lanes in crossing.
