Dehumidifier are classified on basis of principal of working, type of its use and type of
mounting. On basis of use it commonly classified as home dehumidifier, industrial
dehumidifier or commercial dehumidifier and Swimming pool dehumidifier. On basis of
Mounting it defined as portable dehumidifier, ceiling mount, wall mount and floor mount
dehumidifier. On basis of working principle dehumidifiers are mainly classified
into refrigerant type and desiccant type dehumidifiers. In this article we will discuss
difference between refrigerant type and desiccant type dehumidifiers.

Principle of Working or Refrigerant and Desiccant commercial

dehumidifier.
Refrigerant type dehumidifier consists of compressor, condenser and evaporator coil.
Humid air suck inside dehumidifier which passes over cold condenser coil where humidity
in air condensed into physical water. This water stored in built in tank and dry air thrown
out. Desiccant type dehumidifier consists of desiccant wheel, motor, process fan,

moves continuously with help of motor-belt arrangement. Process fan draws humidity air
which passes through desiccant wheel and humidity for air get absorbed by desiccant
wheel. Dry air then thrown out. Due to absorption of humidity, desiccant wheel get wet
which get dry by passing hot air with help of reactivation heater. wet air then thrown out of
dehumidified space with help of reactivation fan.

Differences between refrigerant and desiccant industrial

dehumidifier.
There are many distinguishing differences between desiccant and refrigerant type
commercial industrial dehumidifiers. We will see all differenced between these commercial
duty dehumidifiers one by one.

Area of Use of refrigerant and desiccant commercial dehumidifier.
Refrigerant type Industrial portable dehumidifier are use in high temperature and high
moisture areas where dehumidification to be achieve. Using refrigerant type
large dehumidifier for low temperature areas can cause formation of ice on its coil which
can reduces its dehumidification capacity. While desiccant type portable commercial
dehumidifiers are use in low temperature and low moisture areas where dehumidification
to be achieve. with help of desiccant type commercial dehumidifier we can achieve low
humidity as 1% RH.

Dehumidifier price.
Desiccant type dehumidifier are more costlier than refrigerant type dehumidifier. for same
capacity dehumidifier cost of desiccant dehumidifier can be three times than that of cost of
refrigerant type dehumidifier.

Cost of Running.
Desiccant type commercial dehumidifier needs more electrical power than equivalent
capacity of refrigerant type industrial dehumidifier.

Temperature of dry air.

In desiccant dehumidifier, heaters and fans has been used during process of
dehumidification. Due to this dry air coming out of desiccant dehumidifier has high
temperature which can increase temperature of space by 3 to 5 degree Celsius which can
become major issue if dehumidifier serving to large area. This will increase cost of air
conditioning. While refrigerant type industrial dehumidifier gives out warm air which can
increase temperature of space by 1 to 2 degreee Celsius only.
