drawinterpretationsondrillholemaps.The2Dinterpretationsforallthefeaturesonallthesectionmapsca
nbesavedtothe
sameInterpretationsGeodatabase.Thesinglefilesolutionmakesiteasytomanagetheinterpretationsan
dtoshareyour workwithothers.Theinterpretationscanlaterbejoinedtocreate3Dsurfacesandbodies.

GettingStarted

Whencreatingdrillholesectionorplanmaps,besuretoselecttheLoad to
separatedataframe(s)optionfromthe
Outputtab.Whenseveralmapsareloadedintoanexistingdataframe(e.g.whenusingtheCurrentdatafra
me
option)thatwasnotcreatedbyTargetforArcGISplanorsectiontools,thelocationoftheplaneandtheuniq
ue
coordinatesfortheindividualsectionsarenotmaintained.Usingseparatedataframesensuresthateachd
ataframe hasthecorrectcoordinatesneededfordigitizingintoaninterpretationsgeodatabase.

IfoneofthedataframesinyourMXDcontainsmultiplemapsthenyouwillnotbeabletodigitizeinterpretati
onson dataframesinthatMXD.

Before you begin digitizing geological interpretations that will be joinedin to a wireframe, you
must first create a series of section maps for your drillhole project. When creating the section
maps, specify the downhole data to plot hat you will use as a guide when digitizing your
interpretation son the map. After you have created your section maps, use the Target Wireframing
Tool bar to create the Interpretations Geodatabase, digitize interpretations, and manage the
feature classes and interpretations in the Interpretations Geodatabase.

Whencreatingthedrillholemaps,plotthedownholedatafromcompositedatabasestosimplifydigitizing
and snapping.

Ifyouareplottingdownholelithology,youmayalsowanttousePosttextorTextbandsfromtheDatatab.Off
set fromtherockpatterns,theseitemscanbeusedtohighlightlithologiesofinterest.

Decreasingthedistancebetweensectionmapsandtryingtopositiontheholesasclosetothecentreofthes
ection aspossiblewillenableyoutocreatemoreaccurateinterpretationsandwireframes.

TargetWireframingToolbar
TheTargetWireframingToolbardrivesthedigitizingworkflowfordrawinginterpretationsonyoursection
maps.Ifthe toolbarisnotloadedinyourMXD.right-
clickinthetoolbarareaunderthemenus,andselectTargetWireframing
Toolbar.Alternatively,youcanloadthetoolbarfromCustomize|Toolbars.

Create a new Interpretations Geo data base and Add Feature Classes

drawnonsectionmaps.Bothpolygonandpolylinefeaturescanbestoredinthesamefilegeodatabase.

TheCoordinatesystemforyourInterpretationsGeodatabasewillautomaticallybesetbasedonthecurren
tTarget
drillholedatabase.ItisrecommendedthatyousettheCoordinatesystemforyourdrillholeprojectbeforey
oucreate
yoursectionmaps,InterpretationsGeodatabaseandanyotheroutputfromyourproject.TheCoordinates
ystemfor adrillholeprojectissetthroughData| CoordinateSystem.

FromtheTargetWireframingToolbar,selectNewInterpretationsGeodatabase .
TheNewInterpretationsGeodatabasedialogappears. 2. EnteranOutputgeodatabasename.

To add afeatureclassto an InterpretationsGeodatabase: 1.


IntheNewInterpretationsGeodatabasedialog,totherightoftheFeatureclasseslist,selectAdd
newfeatureclass . TheAddNewFeatureClassdialogappears. 2. EnteranewfeatureclassName. 3.
TheTypeoffeaturestoredissettoPolygon Featuresbydefault.ChangeittoPolylineFeaturesifrequired.
Wireframingpolygonswillcreateaclosedbody(e.g.,analterationorlithologybody).Wireframingpolylin
eswill createanopensurface(e.g.,faultorvein) 4. SelecttheFeatureTemplateDefaulttoolandDrawing
symbol ColourfortheFeature(thiscolourwillbeused

YoucanoptionallyenteraDescriptionfortheFeatureclass. 6. ClickAdd. 7. Continue add in gas many
Feature classes as you require for your project to the Interpretations Geo data base. An
InterpretationsGeodatabasecanstoremanypolygonandpolylinefeatureclasses. 8.
ClickOKontheNewInterpretationsGeodatabasedialog.

IfyouneedtochangetheName,colour,digitizationtypeordescriptionforafeatureclassthatyouhaveadd
