BS-200 QUICK GUIDE FOR TONDO MEDICAL CENTER

I. Turn ON the machine


Switches are located on the left side of the machine. There
are 2 buttons located at the left side of the machine. Make
sure the 2 buttons are ON.
II. Turn ON the computer
- Press the power button of the CPU and Monitor.
III. Important Reminders Before Running

- DONE EVERY MORNING (Recommended)

a. Check volume of distilled water (if empty, please


refill.
b. Check volume of waste (if full, please remove the
liquid)
c. Check REAGENTS
- Replace if needed (after replacing reagent/s, click
“STATUS”, select “REAGENT DISK”,
press “REFRESH” or “REFRESH ALL”, if more than
one) = for the level detection of reagent/s.
d. Check if there’s enough volume of CALIBRATORS and
CONTROLS for each reagents (STANBIO (Multi-
Calibrator), SPINREACT, HDL & HBA1c) before starting
the procedure.

IV. Opening the BS-200 program


Note: Done if the program accidentally exit or close
and/or encounter brownout.

-Right click BS200 Icon


- Select “Run as Administrator”
-Click “YES”
USERNAME: Admin
PASSWORD: Admin
-Machine will automatically start up and initialize.
-After initialization it will prompt to UNLOAD the first
cuvette segment, UNLOAD and then click “OK”.
-The machine will prompt to reload the cuvette
segment, RELOAD or PLACE the cuvette and click “OK”.
-RELOAD ALL 8 positions of the reaction compartment
by clicking “OK”
-If all are loaded click “NEXT” to automatically wash
probe.
-After washing, the computer will enter into the
software main menu.

V. CALIBRATION

- Click “CALIBRATION”

- Click “CALIBRATION REQUEST”
- Select the TEST to be calibrated and click “OK”
- Click the “START” to start calibration.
Note: It can be done simultaneously in QC running.

VI. QC RUNNING
- Click the icon “QC REQUEST”
- Select the TEST for QC and click “OK”
- Click “START” to start running.
- Click “STATUS” for monitoring.

VII. RUNNING OF SAMPLES (start at position 15-40)

a. BY NUMBERS
- Click “SAMPLE REQUEST”
- Select the test to be analyzed and click “OK”. If
there’s more than 1 sample, just select the test for
the corresponding patient number and click “OK” and
if all samples are loaded on the sample rack, click
“START”
Note: Numbering is automatically generated.

b. BY DETAILS
- Click “SAMPLE REQUEST”
- Click “DETAILS”, fill out the following;

Sent By (Requesting Physician, scroll down and
select)
Tested in (select LAB)
Tested by (Medical Technologist on duty, scroll

supplied click “OK”
- Then click “CLOSE”
- Select the test to be analyzed
- Click “OK”
- Click “START”
- Click “STATUS” after clicking start.
NOTE: Clear any obstacles that might block the
movement of the probe to avoid PROBE damage
before clicking “START”…!!! Do not forget to
UNSCREW the cap of the reagents…!!!

Note: If 15-40 samples are being used, go to


“STATUS”, click “SAMPLE DISK”, click “RELEASE ALL”
to vacate the sample positions, then you can utilize

again the position from 15-40 positions. Position of
calibrators and controls are not included.

VIII. PRINTING OF RESULTS


- Click “RESULTS”
- Select patient to be printed
- Click “PRINT”
- Click “OK” (in the event that you forget to enter
details of the patient, click “DETAILS” and fill-up the
corresponding details needed, then click “OK”).

IX. TURNING OFF THE MACHINE


- Click “EXIT”
- Message will prompt, click “STOP”
- Click “EMERGENCY EXIT”
- TURN OFF the computer before turning down the
machine.

Note: You can turn ON the MAIN POWER (near the


cord) for 24 hours without turning it OFF to maintain
the cooling system.

X. TO VIEW QUALITY CONTROL

- Click “QC” icon, and select Day to Day QC.
- For “Tabular Data”
- Select the test you want to view for the QC result.
- Select the Date.
- Select Westgard RULE.
- Select the type of control you want to view.
- Then click “REFRESH”.
- For “Graphical Data”
- Select the test you want to view for the QC result.
- Select the Date
- Select Westgard RULE.
- Select the type of control you want to view.
- Then click “REFRESH” (green dot=normal control, red
dot=pathological/abnormal control).
- Select “QC SUM” to see the actual concentration of
the control (select date, select control, click refresh

XI. VIEW SAMPLE RESULTS

- Click results
- Select patient you want to view

XII. MAINTENANCE

- Click “Maintenance”

Note: light intensity should not fall:


<60% (not ok)
60%-100% (ok)

XIII. OTHERS

1. FOR HBA1c;
REAGENTS:
LATEX – R1
Antibody – R2
*Antibody Reagent Preparation: Add entire
content of R2(b) Antibody to bottle of HBA1c Buffer
(R2a). Mix antibody working reagent well before use.
Stable for 30 days when properly stored at 2-8C

CALIBRATORS:
*Reconstitute each calibrator vial using 0.5 mL
of distilled water.

*Store at 2-8C.
*Protect from light and heat.
*The calibrator retains it assigned value for at least 30
days at 2-8C.
Note: There are 4 Calibrators (values are listed on the
vial label).
CONTROLS:

 Reconstitute vials with 0.5mL deionized water.


Gently mix for 10 minutes.
 Protect from light and heat.
 See values listed on vial label.

SAMPLE PREPARATION:
1. Dispense 0.5 ml Hemolysis Reagent into tubes.
2. Place 10uL of well mixed whole blood into the
tube. Mix.
3. Allow to stand for 5 minutes or until complete
lysis is evident.

2. For SB CSF GLUCOSE

 Same procedure in Running Samples, the only
difference is to change the specimen with CSF.

3. FOR URINE TOTAL PROTEIN:

Specimen: can be random or 24 hours urine


Urine Total Protein (mg/24 hours) = Result x 100 x 12

4. Computation for values of controls (2SD)

5. OGCT, OGTT and 2HPPG Printing

- Click “Setup” from main menu


- Click PRINT
- Click template
- See Report for Patient
- Click Def.
- Press “OK”
- Click Report for Patient
- Box appear (select format e.g. OGTT 75g)

- Click Open
- Click “OK”
- *Go to Parameters from main menu
- Click “Off-system”
- Click “Results” from the main menu
- Select patient
- Click “Add”
- Select “Test”, scroll down
- Type result
- Click “OK”, then Click “Close” (Repeat from asterisk
above until you complete the test result, depends on
how many tests), then click “PRINT”

6. HOW TO EDIT VALUES OF CALIBRATORS AND CONTROLS

CALIBRATORS:
- Click “CALIBRATION” from the main menu
- Click”CALIBRATOR”
- Select CAL (left box)
- Change Expiration Date
- Enter Lot Number
- Select analyte you want to change CAL. Value (right box)

- Type the values on the “Conc”

- Click “OK”
Note: There are 4 sets of CALIBRATORS.

CONTROLS:
- Click “QC” from the main menu
- Click”CONTROL”
- Select CONTROL (left box)
- Change Expiration Date
- Enter Lot Number
- Select analyte you want to change CONTROL Value (right
box)
- Type the values on the “Conc”
- Click “OK”
Note: There are 3 sets of CONTROLS.

7. COMMON ERRORS

a. Cannot run due to very Low Light Intensity


- Do not FORGET to UNLOAD the first cuvette when ask
to do so.
- Click maintenance and click START-UP CHECK, follow
the procedure
- When finished, click “START”

b. Sample or Reagent is EXHAUSTED
- Click “STOP PROBE”
- Click “STATUS”
- Click “SAMPLE DISK” or “REAGENT DISK” where
exhausted error appear
- Check the sample that is empty (exhausted sample or
reagent appear with a white circle at the center)
- Immediately ADD SAMPLE or REAGENT
- After addition, Click “REFRESH” or if more than one
click “REFRESH ALL”
- Then click “START”

c. Cannot run due to START not highlighted


- Be sure first cuvette is unloaded, if not, Click
Maintenance and click STARTUP CHECK, if finished
click “START”
- Be sure to click “OK” after entering the Patient details
and selecting test.

11. HOW TO EDIT OR ADD NORMAL VALUES
- Click “PARAMETERS” from the main menu
- Click TEST
- Select analyte you want to EDIT or ADD normal values
- Click “REFERENCE”
- To EDIT; click existing, type the values on the lower
right part, just below the LOW and HIGH, click “OK”.
- To ADD; click “ADD”, select GENDER (if general,select
blank), select Sample Type, Age (from 0-100), LOW
(lowest range), HIGH (highest range), click “OK”.

- Plug in, then click the power button at the back of the
machine
- Select “MEASURE” from the menu
- Click Pg D/U to select test
Note: Be sure that you already prepare the standard,
control and sample before clicking the test, you need
3 test tubes for each. See Quick Guide Preparation of
the reagents provided).
- Selcet analyte to run (start from number 28-50)
- Click Zero for blanking (use distilled water)
Feed the distilled water, press the button
- Click standard, feed the standard, press button
- Press control if you are running control if not go
directly to sample, feed the sample, press button
