Foreword
This translation has been made based on the original Japanese Industrial
Standard revised by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry through
deliberations at the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee, as the result
of proposal for revision of Japanese Industrial Standard submitted by The
Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) with the draft being attached, based
on the provision of Article 12 Clause 1 of the Industrial Standardization Law
applicable t o the case of revision by the provision of Article 14.
Consequently JIS G 3454 : 1988 is replaced with this Standard.
This revision has been made based on I S 0 9330-1: 1990 Welded steel tubes
for pressure purposes-Technical delivery conditions-Part 1: Unalloyed steel
tubes wi t h specified room temperature properties and I S 0 9329-1: 1989
Seamless steel tubes for pressure purposes-Technical delivery conditions-
Part 1: Unalloyed steels with specified room temperature properties for the
purposes of making it easier t o compare this Standard with International
Standards; to prepare Japanese Industrial Standard conforming with
International Standards; and t o propose a draft of an International Standard
which is based on Japanese Industrial Standard.
Attention is drawn t o the possibility that some parts of this Standard may
conflict with a patent right, application for a patent after opening t o the
public, utility model right or application for registration of utility model
after opening t o the public which have technical properties. The relevant
Minister and the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee a r e not
responsible for identifying the patent right, application for a patent after
opening t o the public, utility model right or application for registration of
utility model after opening t o the public which have the said technical
properties.

Introduction This Japanese Industrial Standard has been prepared based on the
first edition of I S 0 9330-1 Welded steel tubes for pressure purposes-Technical de-
livery conditions-Part l : Unalloyed steel tubes with specified room temperature prop-
erties published in 1990 and the first edition of I S 0 9329-1 Seamless steel tubes for
pressure purposes-Technical delivery conditions-Part 1: Unalloyed steels with specified
room temperature properties published in 1989 with some modifications of the tech-
nical contents.
The portions given sidelines or dotted underlines are the matters modified from
the original International Standard. A list of modifications with the explanations is
given in annex 2 (informative).
3 Grade and designation The pipe shall be classified into two grades and t h e
designations of grade and manufacturing process shall be as given in table 1.
welding process.
.................................
The pipe shall stay as manufactured. However, the cold-finished steel pipe shall
be annealed after manufacture.
The purchaser may specify heat treatment for the weld of t h e electric resis-
tance welded steel pipe of grade STPG 410, a s necessary.
When required by the purchaser, the pipe may be furnished with a bevel end(l).
Note (1) Unless otherwise specified, the shape of the bevel end shall be as shown
in figure 1.

15 Chemical composition The pipe shall be tested in accordance with 10.1 and
It h e ladle analysis values obtained shall conform to table 2.
6 Mechanical properties
6.1 Tensile strength, yield point or proof stress and elongation The pipe
shall be tested in accordance with 10.2 and the tensile strength, yield point o r proof
stress and elongation obtained shall comply with table 3 when t h e tensile test is
carried out for No. 12 or No. 5 test piece for the pipe under 8 mm in wall thickness,
the minimum value of elongation shall be in accordance with table 4.
Remarks : The values in table 4 are obtained by subtracting 1.5 % from the values
of elongation given in table 3 for each 1 mm decrease in wall thick-
ness, and rounding off to an integer in accordance with rule A of JIS
Z 8401.

6.2 Flattening test When tested in accordance with 10.3, the pipe shall not gen-
erate flaws or cracks on its wall surface. In this case, the distance between the two
plates shall be in accordance with t h e following formula:
In the case of seamless steel pipe:
(1+ e>t
H= t
e+-
D
In t h e case of electric resistance welded steel pipe:
c1
H = LD (for weld)
3
1
H = -D (for the portion without weld)

where, H : distance between flattening plates (mm)
e : constant individually defined for each grade of pipe,
0.08 for STPG 370, 0.07 for STPG 410
t : wall thickness of pipe (mm)
D : outside diameter of pipe (mm)
6.3 Bendability For the pipe whose nominal diameter is 40 A or smaller, the pur-
chaser may specify t h e bending test instead of t h e flattening test. I n t h e test of
10.4, t h e pipe shall be free from the occurrence of flaws or cracks on its wall sur-
face. In this case, the pipe shall be bent through 90" around a n inside radius t h a t

However, t h e purchaser may specify t h e bend test in which t h e bend angle is
180" and t h e bending inside radius is 4 times the outside diameter.

wall thickness (schedule number: Sch). However, for the nominal diameter, ei-
ther A o r B shall be used, with the designation A or B suffixed t o the figures of
nominal diameter for identification.
--`,`,`,,,,,``,`,,,,,`,``,`,,`-`-`,,`,,`,`,,`---
2 The mass value shall be calculated from the following formula assuming 1 cm3 of
steel t o be 7.85 g and rounded off t o 3 significant figures in accordance with rule
A of JIS Z 8401.
W = 0 . 0 2 4 6 6 t ( D- t j
where, W : unit mass of pipe (kg/m)
t : wall thickness of pipe (mm)
D : outside diameter of pipe (mmj
