1 OVERVIEW
This chapter describes the application, features and technical parameters of the
ZXDU58 B121 system.

1.1 Application
The ZXDU58 B121 system is a 30A rectifier and -48 VDC power supply system. It
has such functions as centralized monitor and battery maintenance & management
and allows no attendance. The ZXDU58 B121 can be mounted into the cabinet of
the powered equipment.
ZXDU58 B121 adopts advanced rectifier conversion technologies in the world. It is
applicable to provide power supply for access network equipment, remote switch
offices, mobile communication devices, transmission equipment, ground satellite
transceiver stations, and microwave communication devices.

1.2 Features

z The output power of rectifiers is transmitted to the DC distribution

unit through the input/output integrated socket.
z Each load and battery loop is configured with a shunt, which detects
the total load current and battery current. In addition, at the load
output port and battery input port are configured with air switches for
over-current protection and short-circuit protection.

2.5.2 Functions of the Monitor Unit

The monitor unit detects the operation status of system and automatically controls
the operation of the whole system. In addition, it transmits the data to the remote
monitor PC or remote monitor center through the communication interface, realizing
unattended maintenance.
The functions of the monitor unit are described as follows:
1. Data collection and processing

2. Man-machine interactive interface

The LCD and keys enable the user to set the system running parameters and query
the related information.
3. Communication
The monitor unit provides multiple communication interfaces, such as
RS232/RS485/modem. Centralized monitoring can be implemented through modem
or in other ways.
4. Alarm reporting management and protection
The monitor unit processes real-time data, as set by users. If a serious fault occurs,
the unit generates an alarm and reports it to the background PC automatically; in
addition, the unit records and stores fault information. The user can also have access
to alarms through the monitor unit directly. The details are shown below:

according.
Alarm management The system has reliable and real-time alarm management function.
Alarm mode In case of any alarm, the monitor unit generates audible and visual
signal to inform the maintenance personnel and reports the alarm
information to a background PC through its communication interface.
Press any key to mute the alarm sound; then the ALM indicator keeps
glowing until the fault is eliminated.

5. Battery management function

1) Battery charging management
In periodic equalized charging mode and power-on equalized charging
mode after power failure, the monitor unit manages storage battery
charging. The periodic equalized charging indicates that the system makes
the equalized charging for the battery according to the period set by the
user. The power-on equalized charging mode after power failure means
that the AC supply which is cut off resumes to normal after the battery has

ZTE Confidential Proprietary Page 13 of 14

ZXDU58 B121(V2.0) Product Description

been discharged for a period long enough (to be set by users). In this case,
the system automatically charges a storage battery.
2) Battery protection function
When the mains supply is cut off, the battery supplies the power. The
alarm is generated when the voltage of the battery decreases to a certain
degree (adjustable).
When the voltage of the battery decreases to the protection voltage of
primary power-off, cut off the secondary load first. When the further
discharge of battery reaches the protection voltage of the secondary
power-off, cut off the primary load, to prevent the battery from being
damaged due to discharge.
This ensures that the basic load is maintained for a long period of standby
time even after power failure, that the battery is not damaged due to any
over-discharge.
6. Control
Control the power-on, power-off, equalized charging and float charging of the
rectifier through the control instruction of the foreground man-machine interaction
operation or background computer. Adjust the output voltage of the rectifier (-42 V
~ -58 V adjustable continuously) according to the requirements of the user.

2.6 Monitor Networking Mode

The ZXDU58 B121 system supports multiple monitor networking modes, with the
details below:
1. Serial port mode
The ZXDU58 B121 system provides RS232/RS485 serial port. In the serial port
mode, the ZXDU58 B121 system is connected to a background PC through the
serial port (see Figure 12). The background monitor software installed in the PC
serves to realize the local centralized monitoring. The mode is the simplest, but the
distance between the system and the background PC should be no more than 15 m.

2. Modem mode and other modes
The ZXDU58 B121 system can be connected to a remote PC through modem,
telephone line, or other transmission channel (like the auxiliary channel of
microwave equipment and optical transmission equipment) and auxiliary
communication equipment. For details, refer to the ZTE Background Power Supply
Monitor Software (V3.21) User’s Manual.
