local Motor Control Centre (MCC)

1.1.76 All electrical drive control and starter panels, including variable
speed drive (VSD) controller panels, will be located in the MCC. The
MCC Manufacturer will supply these panels, unless the panels form
part of a specialised package supplied as an integral part of the
Equipment.

1.1.77 Drive control and starter panels shall not be mounted in the field,
unless this is essential for the process control purposes. In this
instance, such panels shall be installed in an approved padlockable

6.12 POWER AND CONTROL VOLTAGES

1.1.78 The Equipment will receive the following power supplies:

 4160 Volt  10% 3 phase 60 Hz for main drives and motors

than 250 hp

 120 Volt  10% 1 phase 60 Hz for instrument power supplies.

 120 Volt single phase 60Hz control voltage for Motor Control
Centres (MCC’s), stop/start stations and solenoid valves.

6.13 ELECTRIC MOTORS

1.1.79 The Supplier shall provide an electric motor list with the Tender. The
electric motor list shall indicate the voltage, power and type of
starting for all motors.

1.1.80 Motors shall be sized to maintain agitation without overloading in

the event of failure of the air supply to the cells.

1.1.81 Motors shall be capable of starting under a fully loaded condition.

1.1.82 Motors shall preferably be B3 foot mounted, 4 pole, totally enclosed

fan cooled (TEFC), class ‘F’ insulation (limited to class ‘B’
temperature rise), squirrel cage induction design.

1.1.83 Electric motors for fixed speed duties shall be selected by applying
a drive efficiency of 95% and a minimum motor service factor of 1.2
to the calculated maximum absorbed horse power, to arrive at the
maximum running power. The next frame size of motor above the
calculated maximum running power shall be selected for the drive.

1.1.84 Where squirrel cage induction motors are to be employed in a

variable speed drive application, further factors to those outlined
above shall apply:

 If the calculated maximum absorbed power is greater than 10

hp, then the calculated maximum running power (as

Document
Number:
Title: Specification for the Supply of the Tank
Agitators

calculated above) shall be increased by a further 15% and

the next larger size frame motor shall be selected.

 In the case of the calculated maximum absorbed powers of

10 hp and less, then the maximum absorbed power shall be
increased by 100% and the next larger motor shall be
selected.

 Variable speed motors selected on the basis of the above two

criteria will normally allow a turndown speed operation to
approximately 50% of normal speed, and will reduce the
incidence of motor failure on smaller drives.

 In all cases, motors sized for varispeed drive operation must

be selected in consultation with both the motor manufacturer
and the varispeed drive controller supplier, particularly in the
case of high inertia loads, constant torque loads or sustained
operating speeds below 50% of nominal.

1.1.85 All motors shall be specified in accordance with the following

criteria, in order to facilitate interchangeability with other motors in
