6.1 GENERAL
1.1.35 All work shall conform to the requirements of this Specification,
attached data sheets and all referenced Specifications and
documents.
1.1.37 The Supplier shall incorporate into the Equipment design, proven
technology, specialist knowledge, previous experience and standard
designs to the maximum practicable extent. Proven technology and
high equipment reliability shall be key selection criteria for
evaluation of Tenders. Alternative designs may be offered by the
Supplier, which will be evaluated on their merit.

1.1.52 Impellers shall be designed with keywayed hubs for fitting to shafts,
and shall be fitted with bolted blades for easy removal and
replacement. Impellers shall be statically and dynamically balanced
and the blades match marked to ensure correct balance on re-
assembly.
1.1.53 Equipment shall be designed for operation with the impeller running
in the specified fluid, in water and in air, and during filling and
emptying of the tank.
1.1.54 In the event that the Equipment becomes ‘bogged’ and the shaft
becomes engulfed in a bed of solids, the Equipment shall be
designed to withstand without failure, the maximum DOL torque
from the electric motor.
1.1.55 The Equipment shall be capable of re-starting with the tank full after
a shutdown of 24 hours.
1.1.56 Operational speed of the Equipment shall not exceed 80% of the
first critical speed. Operation in the range of 25% to 50% of first
critical speed shall be avoided.
1.1.57 Torsional natural frequencies shall not be within 20% of any existing
frequencies (i.e. rotational speed, gear tooth meshing frequency,
blade passing frequency, vortex shedding frequency)
1.1.59 The Equipment Supplier shall advise the number, size and
disposition of tanks baffles to achieve optimum mixing and power
consumption.

6.7 LUBRICATION
1.1.61 In order to allow lubrication while the unit is operating, all
lubrication points shall be readily accessible outside of the
Equipment casing and guards. Grease nipples shall be mounted on
plates at conveniently accessible locations.
1.1.62 Stainless steel tube and compression type fittings shall be used for
all lubrication piping. Piping shall be neatly routed in a manner that
allows drive guards and other adjacent components to be removed
without disconnecting the lubrication piping.
1.1.63 All remote lubrication points shall be provided with a traffolyte label,
which shall clearly identify the point being lubricated.
6.9 GUARDS
1.1.65 All equipment shall be provided with suitable guards in accordance
with the requirements of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA)
and the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act (MSHA)

1.1.67 Guards to chain drives shall be fully enclosed sheet metal guards.
The guards shall be adequately sealed to prevent the ingress of
airborne contaminants.
1.1.68 Mesh guards shall have a skeletal frame fabricated from either
angle or tubular members. All edges of the mesh shall be attached
to this frame.
1.1.71 The Supplier shall provide a schedule of support design loads for the
Equipment. The schedule shall be clearly cross-referenced to the
support arrangement. Support design loads shall be provided as
primary load cases (not as combined load cases). The direction and
sign of the loads shall be clearly stated. For dynamic (out of
balance, reciprocating, rotating, or alternating) loads, the
characteristics of the load, and the frequency of excitation shall be
clearly defined.

1.1.75 All drives will be supplied with power and will be controlled from the
local Motor Control Centre (MCC)
1.1.76 All electrical drive control and starter panels, including variable
speed drive (VSD) controller panels, will be located in the MCC. The
MCC Manufacturer will supply these panels, unless the panels form
part of a specialised package supplied as an integral part of the
Equipment.
1.1.77 Drive control and starter panels shall not be mounted in the field,
unless this is essential for the process control purposes. In this
instance, such panels shall be installed in an approved padlockable
steel enclosure to NEMA 4 type IP 55 (hose-proof) fitted with a
suitable carbon steel drip cover.

than 250 hp
120 Volt single phase 60Hz control voltage for Motor Control
Centres (MCC’s), stop/start stations and solenoid valves.
1.1.83 Electric motors for fixed speed duties shall be selected by applying
a drive efficiency of 95% and a minimum motor service factor of 1.2
to the calculated maximum absorbed horse power, to arrive at the
maximum running power. The next frame size of motor above the
calculated maximum running power shall be selected for the drive.

1.1.86 All motors shall be metric ‘D’ frame size with cast iron construction
throughout (including motor terminal boxes) and have enclosures
complying with NEMA 4 type IP 55 (hose-proof) suitable for external
use. By this definition, aluminium frame motors are not acceptable.
Further, fabricated carbon steel or fibreglass/plastic motor terminal
boxes are not acceptable.
1.1.87 Cast iron motor terminals boxes shall be located on the right-hand-
side of the motor (viewed from drive end) to facilitate cable
termination during motor replacement. Cable terminations shall be
bottom entry to inhibit the ingress of water and contaminants in the motor.
1.1.88 The Supplier shall provide the name of his preferred Motor Supplier
and model and list a take out price for all motors. The

Supplier shall also provide full instrumentation to facilitate process
guarantees. Full instrumentation details shall be provided at the
time of Tender.
1.1.92 All actuated valves shall use air as the operating medium. Electric
actuated valves shall not be used without written approval from the
Purchaser/Principal.
