SUBJECT MATTER
TOPIC: Applications of Triangle Congruence: Isosceles Triangle Theorem
MATERIAL/S: Visual aids, Activity sheet, Ruler and protactor
REFERENCE/S:
 Lesson Guide in Geometry (Ateneo)
 Hands-On, Minds-On (Math 111)

II. OBJECTIVES

At the end of 55-minutes, 70% of the students with at least 75% proficiency should be able to:
A. determine that the angles opposite the congruent sides of an isosceles triangle are congruent;
B. apply the isosceles triangle theorem in finding the measure of leg and angle of an isosceles
triangle;
C. solve for the value of the variable;
D. apply knowledge on previous lessons.

III. METHODOLOGY
A. Daily Routine
B. Recall

## 1. Ask students to define isosceles triangle.

2. Let students name the parts of an isosceles triangle
C. Development of the Lesson

## 1. Students will bring out their isosceles triangle.

2. Name the cutout as ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶 with legs ̅̅̅̅ 𝐴𝐵 and ̅̅̅̅
𝐴𝐶 .
3. Measure 𝐴𝐵̅̅̅̅ and 𝐴𝐶
̅̅̅̅ . Are the two sides have the same length?
4. Identify the angles opposite the two legs.
5. Measure the angles. Are the two angles congruent?
6. Lead students to make a generalization about the angles opposite two congruent sides of a
triangle.

##  ISOSCELES TRIANGLE THEOREM

If two sides of a triangle are congruent, then the angles opposite are congruent.

## 7. Show a two-column proof for this theorem.

Given: ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶 is an isosceles triangle with vertex A.
̅̅̅̅
𝐴𝐷 is the median of ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶.

Prove: ∠𝑩 ≅ ∠𝑪 A
