FRANKFURT - NEW YORK » LONDONKompositonsasftrag der y Rencontres Internationales d Art Contemporain'«
Uranfforang: 7. Juli 1979, La Rocelle
Daver/ Duration: ca. 11"Vorwort
Det Geiger verwendet hier einen sogenannten,,Tonwolf-
Dampfer. Damit wird die Klangfarbe stark becintrichtigt:
es entsteht ein diinner und obertonarmer, nasaler Ton,
Auch die normale Lautheit des Instrumentes wirkt diber-
maBig vermindert. (Det Tonwolf kann auch so auf den
Steg aufgelegt werden, daB die IV. Saite — aber evtl auch
die II. ~ nicht gedampft wird, um eine bessere Balance
aller Saiten zu erteichen.)
Um das Klavier an diesen ungewohalichen Klang besser
fanpassen zu kénnen, wird vorwiegend na corda gespielt;
die Decke des Fligels bleibt geschlossen. Beide Instru-
‘mente sollen ~ im Saal ~ annihernd gleich laut klingen.
Der Geiger miiBte, dem Intimcharakter des Stiickes ent-
sptechend, sitzend spielen.
Preface
The violinist uses here a heavy metal mute (‘“Tonwolf”-
mute). The timbre is thereby strongly affected: it results
in a thinner and harmonically pooter, more nasal tone.
‘The normal loudness of the instrument is also excessively
reduced. (To obtain a better balance between the strings,
the heavy metal mute may be laid on the bridge in such
4 way that the 4th string ~and pethaps the 3rd - is not
damped).
In order to enable the piano to match this unusual sound
better, it is mainly played ama corda; the lid of the piano
remains closed. Both instruments should have ~ in the
hall ~ approximately the same volume level.
Tn accordance with the intimate character of the piece, the
violinist ought to play sitting.
