I.

Introduction

Since civilization began, transportation plays a vital role in travelling and also exporting goods. From a
simple horse to the modern vehicle we have today, our mode of transportation has greatly evolved and
still evolving.

With the different vehicles created, almost every household owns a vehicle and most of the people today
knows how to drive at least one type of vehicle. According to Top Gear Philippines, thirty-eight percent
(38%) of Filipino households have one car while sixteen percent (16%) own more than one car. Last
February 2019, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) released an annual report there more than 11 million
motor vehicles were registered, eight percent of it from Cebu City as of 2018. In today's generation, aside
from young adults, teenagers are now taught how to drive a vehicle even those who aren't in the legal
age yet to have a driving license. Due to the lack of knowledge and skills of these individual, these may
increase the possibility of getting into vehicular accidents. According to Patricia A. Cava- zos-Rehg, PhD,
the lead author in a recent study about teenage drunk driving and driving laws in the US, “Motor vehicular
accidents are the leading cause of death for young people ages 16 to 20.”

Over 1.25 million die from road crashes every year according to World Health Organization (WHO). For
the past few years, vehicular accidents have become one of the main causes of death in the Philippines.
More than 10,000 die annually from vehicular accidents in the Philippines. More or less 12,000 vehicular
incidents were reported in Cebu City last 2018 as stated in the statistic report of vehicular accidents of
Cebu City Police Office.

With the huge increase on the rate of vehicular accidents reported, the researchers decided to conduct a
research subjecting to the safety of teenager drivers and its importance.

II. Problems and Objectives

Public transportation is difficult these days. That is why some teenagers opted to have their own
private vehicle and drive it by their own. However, researchers have found that, teen drivers are more
likely to be at risk of vehicle accidents than any other age group. Teenagers are most likely to be at risk of
accidents because they lack the necessary skills and knowledge in driving. Because of this, they fail to pay
attention on the road hazards. Using mobile phones in order to answer calls, to reply messages, or to take
videos while driving too can be a reason of car accidents. Last but not the least, driving under the influence
of alcohol.
Hence, the campaign proposal aims to:

A. To raise awareness to these teen drivers about their inappropriate behavior in driving
B. To educate them about the proper ways to observe and follow in driving with utmost safety
C. To improve their skills in driving and road safety

III. Proposed Solutions

The project objectives will be achieved through:

A. Establishing partnerships with other driving association

B. Communicating with the local government units in Cebu
C. Inviting other interested and concerned individuals through advertising

Driving Associations

Driving associations are highly encouraged to help in raising awareness by sharing their knowledge
and expertise in order to educate the teenagers on safety driving. They can give advice on the do’s
and don’t in driving that teenage drivers should do.

Local Government Unit

Local government unit is a strong partner for this project. They can provide us the different policies
that would guide the teenagers

IV. Methodology

In order to achieve our noble cause in saving the lives of our teenagers, we from the Associations
of Young Drivers of the Philippines would like to conduct a seminar entitled, “Just Drive: A Seminar on
Safety Driving Awareness on Teenagers”, we will visit different universities and schools where we can
conduct the seminar.

Before Seminar

The group would like to look for sponsors who would finance the different materials, equipment, and
people for the seminar. Then, we would look for a speaker who is knowledgeable and credible that can
help in raising our awareness in driving. A team will be sent to a*place*to find out the population of teen
drivers. Afterwards, participants of the seminar would be given a guide on what to expect and to look
forward on the seminar.

During Seminar

The organizing committee would gather the participants and inform them the series of activities they
would do throughout the seminar. First, there would be an educational talk on the different road safety
hazards that every driver should know. Second, a video clip would be shown on the accidents caused by
various activities that a teenager usually engages while driving such as drinking under the influence
alcohol and texting. Afterwards, a “test drive” would be conducted. This is to test the preparedness of
teenage drivers when they are faced with different driving and road situations. The test drive would be
graded by the LGU who would be participating the seminar.

After Seminar

The team would be asking the feedback of the participants of the seminar. With their feedback, a
written report would be made in order to find out the strongest points of the seminar that should be
continued and the weakest points that should be improved in the next seminars. As for the “test drive”
grade, those who have passed are road ready. Meanwhile, to those who did not get a passing mark, are
recommended to retake the mock test drive until they get a passing mark. A certificate would be awarded
to those who have passed the test drive.

VI. Call to Action

More than 10,000 lives are wasted annually due to vehicular accidents here in the Philippines. This
fact is the reason why the JUST DRIVE movement was made into reality. This campaign is just one of
the several actions in line with achieving the goal of resolving the increasing rate of road accidents
due to ignorance and recklessness of drivers. This activity will generally focus on educating teenagers
regarding the rules, safety measures and other policies provided by the law to prevent them from
causing accidents.
If, until now, you have just set aside this alarming problem then, this is the perfect moment to
jump in and get involved. Attend the seminar and be part of the JUST DRIVE 2019 movement on
“DATE” at “VENUE”. This event will definitely motivate everyone to #JustDrvie and #SaveLives.
