EXECUTIVE
DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
Let’s chat,

In October of this year the Seniors Come Share Society will be

celebrating their 43rd year of supporting older adults and their
families in the cities of White Rock and Surrey.  I have to say it
has been quite the journey from one small part-time temporary
program to an organization offering over 25 community
programs and, in this last year, making over  90,998 connections.
A couple of highlights for this year include our Mobile ID clinic
where we were able to assist homeless or about to be homeless
seniors to acquire official government identification. This allowed
them to access medical services, apply for government supports
and,  we also set up a post office box address for them to use on
applications, to receive mail.  These initiatives, with the help of
our community partners such as the City of Surrey and Vancity,
changed these individuals’ lives in a very positive way.
For our staff team we expanded our training and education
sessions to include training regarding:
LGBTQ2+ individuals, Mental Health First Aid, and upgrades to
staff First Aid/Food Safe. Through the joint efforts of our Director
of Programs, Director of Human Resources and Director of
Community Support Programs, personnel policies,
program protocols and Occupational Health.

Our Day Program teams, led by our Therapeutic Recreation staff and supported by the hard working LPN
staff, Cooks, and our amazing Accounting Administrator, all contribute to making the lives of older adults
and their families better.  Our Community Support team, through their collaborative efforts, provide access
to information and services, facilitate community meals and computer lessons, walk alongside those who
need that little bit of extra support to regain their independence, encourage caregivers who struggle to
provide the care their family member needs, and so much more.  All in all the combined efforts of these
individuals demonstrate they are here because they care.

Our Board of Directors has championed our organization through many obstacles and setbacks yet they
keep showing up for meetings and giving of their time and expertise.  We could not have reached even two
people without the dedication and the willingness to give back which these individuals have contributed
over the years.

I have given my notice to retire and will be leaving the organization at the end of August, I think, and while I
did this with a lot a trepidation and frustration as I see new opportunities coming our way, I know that
Seniors Come Share Society will be in good hands.  I look forward to hearing all the great things you
accomplish in the years to come and I will be your cheerleader from where ever I land.

Thanks for the opportunity and the glorious ride over the past 41 years.

Sue McIntosh
DAY PROGRAMS

Our Day Programs for Older Adults offer specialized

care within a supportive, nurturing environment,
ensuring our clients feel valued and respected in a safe
environment. The Day Programs focus on the needs of
each person as our clients have a variety of health,
physical, or cognitive related issues. We build on the
strengths of each individual, while being mindful of any
limitations. We respect the client’s rights to choose and
are supportive throughout their decision making
process.

At the Day Program, each day we offer a variety of

recreational programs, opportunities to socialize with
peers, exercises that strengthen and promote safety,
and health monitoring.

The Day Program also provides caregivers the respite

needed enabling them to focus on their own personal
well-being.

Our clients love when Mike
comes in because he is so
knowledgeable and passionate
of the animals that he owns and
brings.

He is very gentle and

approachable when allowing
the clients to pet the critters!
