A Detailed Lesson Plan for Grade IV in Mathematics

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
A. Find the perimeter of a triangle and derive a formula for the perimeter of a triangle.
B. Measure the perimeter of a triangle.
C. Cooperate to the group activities and draw ideas.

II. LEARNING CONTENT

Skills : Finding the perimeter of a triangle
Derive a formula for the perimeter of a triangle
Reference : Mathematics 4, pp. 100-102
Materials : flashcards, ruler, and illustrations of triangle

III. LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activity
1. Drill
Read and answer the mathematical
sentences all together 54 62 75 15
+34 +33 +12 +43

2. Review
Yesterday we have discussed
the different kinds of triangle.
so, what are the kinds of triangle?
And is its characteristics? Scalene Triangle
a triangle that has different
sides.
Right Triangle
a triangle that has right angle
of 90 degree.
Equilateral Triangle
a triangle that has equal sides.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation
I have illustrations of triangle,
who would come to the board
and measure the sides of each triangle
using the ruler?
2. Presentation of the Lesson
What you have measured is the perimeter
of a triangle. This is what we are going to
discuss, to find the perimeter of a triangle.

PERIMETER – is a distance around a polygon.

POLYGON – is a closed figure like triangle.

If a perimeter is the length of all sides of a

triangle, can you think of a formula for finding
the perimeter of a triangle? The formula is
P = S1 + S2 + S3.

3. Fixing Skills
Draw a triangle on the board, measure the
sides of your estimated triangle and give
the perimeter. Pupils are drawing triangle
and writing its measurement
to get the perimeter.
Now, let’s see who got the correct
Measurement.

C. Generalization
What is perimeter?
How do you find the perimeter of
a triangle?
What is the formula of the perimeter of
a triangle? Perimeter is the sum
of all sides of a polygon. We
get the perimeter by adding
all sides. Its formula is
P = S1 + S2 + S3.

D. Application
Find the perimeter of each triangle from the given measurement.

1. 3. 5.

2. 4.
IV. EVALUATION

A. Fill in the blanks below by giving the perimeter.

1. Perimeter = 18m + 12m + 10m
P=
2. Perimeter = 10m + 10m + 12m
P=
3. Perimeter = 15m + 15m + 15m
P=
4. Perimeter = 8m + 5m + 18m
P=
5. Perimeter = 12m + 12m + 12m
P=

B. Complete the table and find the perimeter.

TRIANGLE S1 S2 S3 PERIMETER

1 14m 15m 16m m

2 10m 12m 15m m
3 18m 5m 15m m
4 15m 20m 20m m
5 7m 6m 11m m

V. ASSIGNMENT

Find the perimeter and illustrate the problem.

Don Mario has a triangular piece of land that is planted with coconut trees. He
wants to enclose it with a fence. How long will his fence be if the sides measures 24
meters, 18 meters, and 20 meters? What is the perimeter of his land? Illustrate his piece
of land.
