WHO,WHAT,WHY? 1

 WHAT IS ASME?
 ASME stands for “American Society of Mechanical Engineers”.
 It is an American professional association that, promotes art, science, and
practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe.
 LOGO:
For members of ASME: Official: Official ASME certification:

 WHAT IT DOES?
 ASME is one of the oldest standards developing organization in America, which
produce around 600 codes and standards covering many technical areas,
mainly in mechanical systems.
WHO,WHAT,WHY? 1.2

 WHAT IS CODES AND STANDARDS?

 The ASME codes and standards are the data which regulates the design and
construction of different mechanical equipment*.
 These data are maintained and written by volunteers chosen for their technical
expertise.
 STANDARDS: IT IS A SET OF TECHNICAL DEFINATIONS AND GUIDELINES.
 CODES: A CODE IS A STANDARD THAT HAS BEEN ADOPTED BY ONE OR MORE
GOVERNMENTAL BODIES AND HAS THE FORCE OF LAW.

 WHY DOES CODES AND STANDARDS MATTER?

 A mechanical equipment built according to ASME, provides safety, quality,
efficiency… to a great extent. Of course there are other standards as well!!!

*ASME standards are strictly not a constructional manual of any mechanical equipment.
