Film Summary of Dr. Maria Montessori

The Video was an excellent overview of the Maria Montessori theory. It explained in

great detail that children construct knowledge from experiences to the world. Learning does not

need to be forced in fact; it is something that as humans we do naturally. I would agree because I

have been around developing children and it is quite evident that as soon as they can grab and

walk they are eager to learn and explore their environment.

The movie did a great job explaining the structure of the Maria Montessori theory is

organized into three sections. First, the learner is the child who is ready to observe an explore

knowledge. Next is the prepared environment which is what sets a Maria Montessori apart from

other learning concepts. For example, you will find that materials are arranged neatly on low

shelves. With the overall idea to promote students to move freely as they work at their own pace.

Also, In a classroom, you will find brightly colored objects, knobbed puzzles, colored beads, and

other objects made with an interesting texture. Lastly, in a Maria Montessori school, you will

find a trained adult. The role of a teacher is to promote the child to connect skills and knowledge.

At the same time allowing students to take the lead in their activities.

After watching this video about Maria Montessori, I have a better understanding of her

theory. The concept that learning is something that humans do naturally really resonated with

me. Reason being that we grow up with the idea that we must push our children to want to learn

more. When in fact we are naturally created that way. I firmly believe that this concept will help

me in my future career as a teacher. Also In the future, I now know that we all learn differently.

For example, as teachers, we always want the best for our students, and sometimes we tend to

push our students when they do not understand specific information. I am now aware that we all

learn at a different pace and in different ways, so I plan on meeting these needs in my future

children.
