The strength of a developed nation depends primarily on the literacy of the Nation. With this vision as a
beacon “Kalvi Chemmal” Late Shri.T.K.Pattabhiraman set out the mission to provide quality education
and the fruit of the endeavor was the founding of the Coimbatore Educational and Cultural Foundation
Trust. Under this trust Sankara College of Science and Commerce was established in the year 1991. In
Pursuit of knowledge is the prophetic motto of the college.
Sankara Educational Institutions are ceaseless in their pursuit of excellence, to provide quality education
to all the poor in quest of knowledge.The student community and the society today have recognized the
inspired effort that Sankara is now one among the most sought after temples of learning. The college
has a long academic tradition in scholarship. This is coupled with facilities for the pursuit of knowledge
so that it caters to the needs of rural students who aspire for education in arts, science and commerce
courses.
The Sankara Management is headed by Shri.T.P.Ramachandran, Managing Trustee & Secretary, an
able leader and self motivated personality. We believe in not just teaching but to guide the students for
overall development. May the quality education, we impart to our students enlighten their minds and
enthuse their hearts towards high aspiration.

Greetings from Sankara College of Science and Commerce!!!

Welcome to the academic year 2019-20. Here is the SANSAC Bulletin, the monthly
newsletter of Sankara College of Science and Commerce.The faculty members
and the student contributors have expressed great zeal in contributing towards this
newsletter through their participation in varied activities.
Our sincere thanks to the team, whose hard work and enthusiasm has made it
possible to record and cherish all the dynamic efforts, activities and laurels of our
students and faculty in large. We are happy to release the Volume-1 Issue-1
(June 2019) newsletter of this academic year.

National Service Scheme and ECO Club of Sankara College of Science and Commerce,Fun Mall and Rotary Club of
Coimbatore West Jointly Celebrated World Environment Day at Fun Mall on 5th June 2019. Chief Guest of the programme
was Mr.J.Sarvan Kumar IAS, Corporation Commissioner, Coimbatore, and Guest of Honour, was Rtn.P.P.Lakshmanan,
District Director.

Mr.T.R.Kalyanaraman, Joint Secretary, Sankara Institute of Management Science, Dr.H.Balakrishnan, Principal, Sankara
College of Science and Commerce and Mr.Bernard Edward, Vice Principal felicitated the gathering. Earlier Commissioner
distributed cloth bags with tree saplings to the public and flagged off the Awareness rally. The students performed mime
and dance shows to create the awareness on planting trees and saving our Environment for the public.

The students holding placards for awareness about plastic eradication, forest conservation and planting trees participated
in the rally which began at Fun mall signal and concluded at Peelamedu. More than 100 NSS and Eco Club Volunteers
along with the public participated in this programme.

Child Labour
Anti Clild Labour Awareness Programme Organized by Sankara NSS on 14.6.2019. Dr.H.Balakrishnan, Principal and
Dr.V.Radhika, Dean Academics welcomed and felicitated the gathering and insisted students to create the awareness
among the public about the Child Labour.

Dr.V.Vijayakumar,Anti Child Labour Project Director, Collectorate was the Chief Guest of the day and he addressed the
students on how to create the awards among the public about Anti Child Labour.After the orientation programme the NSS
students and programme coordinators visited nearby shops and firms nearby the college and gave awareness among the
Anti Child Labour. Also students pasted the poster of the same in all shops and firms.

29th Batch of Students

Sankara College of Science and Commerce inaugurated its 29 th Batch of students on 17.6.2019.
Smt. Kavitha Jawahar, Professional Speaker & Orator, CDA Manager – Reliance Life Insurance was the Chief Guest.
The event stared with prayer song and the Principal Dr.H.Balakrishnan, welcomed the gathering and insisted the students
to build their knowledge, skills and discipline which could be imparted during the college days.
Shri. T. P. Ramachandran, Managing Trustee & Secretary presided over the event. In his speech he advised the students
to work hard to reach their goals, and to take enough care of their health by involving themselves in sports besides
academic activities. Mrs. Nithya Ramachandran, Deputy Joint Secretary, Sankara Educational Institutions, Mr. Kalyan
Ramachandran, Joint Secretary, Sankara Institute of Management and Dr. V. Radhika, Dean, Academic Affairs, Sankara
College of Science and Commerce, felicitated the gathering. In their speech they highlighted the salient features of
Sankara College of Science and Commerce, motivated the students to set a goal and briefed few tips to attain their goals.
The Chief Guest of the day, Smt. Kavitha Jawahar addressed the gathering in an inspirational way. She advised the
students to study for nation’s betterment and for their parents, who are their hero and heroines.

YOGA Day Celebration

Sankara College of Science and Commerce came forward to celebrate International Day of Yoga on 21.06.2019
(Friday) and to spread the message about the benefits of regular practice of yoga among students, staff and public in
association with PLS Manavalakkalai Mandram Trust of World Community Service Centre. The institution conducted a
demo class on “Yoga for Healthy Life” to the students of Government Higher Secondary School, Asokapuram and Kalapatti
to attain the benefits like reducing stress, improving memory, attention and self control, increases self confidence and self
esteem.
Around 100 NSS volunteers along with program officers participated in the celebration of International Yoga Day held at
Bharathiar University. The students demonstrated Surya Namaskar and Chandra Namaskar at Fun Mall,
Peelamedu to promote the necessity of practicing Yoga for a healthy stress free, balanced life and also to spread the
awareness among Women to avoid Breast Cancer with regular practice of Yoga.
The celebration at the college premises organised by the Yoga Club included all the first year UG students. The event
started with prayer song and Thavam. The faculty In-charge Prof. M. Thiruchelvi, welcomed the gathering. The Chief
Guest Prof. Jeyanthi, President, PLS Manavalakkalai Mandram Trust, explained the definition of Yoga and its benefits. In
her oration she explained how yoga helps to promote a balanced development of physical, mental and spiritual mind of a
human. Professors from PLS Manavalakkalai Mandram Trust demonstrated Warm-Up Exercise, Surya Namaskar,
Tadasana, Makarasana, Utkatasana and Trikonasana to more than 400 students.

Sankara College of Science and Commerce conducted Five Day School to College Transition and Bridge programme
for 1st year students from 17th June 2019 to 24th June 2019. The programme covers the basics on their concern subjects
and bridge the gap between the schooling and college. Also the programme includes Digital learning orientation,
Career goals training, Online assessment, basics of Commerce, Computer Studies, English, Tamil, French, Management
and Catering science.

myKlassroom weekly Quiz

Sankara College of Science and Commerce initiated myKlassroom weekly quiz for students. All the students have to
take up the weekly quiz on various tiopics on Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Top five scores awarded with certificates. Students
are actively participating in the quiz with healthy competition. This will enhance the students digital learning knowledge and
it will help them during the placements.

Day against Drug Abuse and

Illicit Trafficking 2019

Students of Sankara College of Science and Commerce Observed International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit
Trafficking 2019 by participating in the public awareness rally from Thudiyalur Junction, Coimbatore to Kavundampalayam
on 26th June 2019. During the Rally the students created an awareness about drinking alcohol is injurious to health.
Coimbatore District Superitendent of Police Mr. Sujit Kumar IPS ,flagged off the rally at Thudiyalur Police Station.
Placards against illicit trafficking and appeals on protecting childrens, particularly girls, were on display. Mr.Sujit Kumar
IPS, addressed the students to do not consume alcohol, how it affects the health and how to save our life from alcohol,
smoking and drugs more than 200 students were participated in the rally.

& Mathematics Association Inauguration

Sankara College of Science and Commerce , Department of Mathematics celebrated National Statistics Day on the eve
of Prof. P.C.Mahalahobis anniversary by inaugurating its association on 28.06.19 for the academic year 2019-2020 by the
chief guest Prof. A. Rajagopal, Six Sigma Trainer & Practitioner, Head, SQC & OR Specialist Indian Statistical Institute,
Coimbatore.
The Chief Guest of honour addressed the gathering and claimed that observance of this day gives opportunities to the
young researchers and professionals working in various domains to take stock of trends and development in Statistics. He
highlighted that the use of statistics in everyday life and sensitize the public as to how statistics helps in shaping and
framing policies.

BBA CA Association & ED Cell

Sankara College of Science and Commerce , BBA CA association and ED Cell inaugurated on 28th June 2019. The
function started with the recital of prayer. Dr.S.Kavitha, HoD, Department of Business Administration with CA welcomed the
gathering with her warm and motivating words. Dr.V.Radhika, Dean of Academics presided over the function and delivered
the presidential address. She stressed that EDC is to create platform for self development, promote innovation, incubation
and entrepreneurial skills through formal and non- formal programmes. She laid importance on branding.
The Guest of the day encouraged the young and vibrant students and wished them to utilize the opportunities prevailing in
the Entrepreneur Development Cell. He insisted the students to enhance the multi- faceted qualities and smartness to
magnify them as a successful entrepreneur. The session made the students to get greater insights to take their entrepre-
neurial dreams to the next level

Rejuvenation & Relishing Programme

YOGA for Teaching & Non Teaching
Sankara College of Science and Commerce, Internal Quality Assurance Cell organized Rejuvenation and Relishing
programme through YOGA for teaching and nonteaching faculty members in association with PLS manavalakalai
mandram trust. The programme is about the complete demonstration of YOGA postures for the working employees to
maintain their physical and mental health. faculty membersenjoyed the programme and actively participated.

Day OUTBOUND Training at Anaikatti, Coimbatore on 14th June 2019. Managerial Skills, Leadership Skills and Team
