Bot Of War

In this modern battlefield, the gladiators are robots and there's only one aim on the
battlefield - survive. In this bot version of Laser Tag, teams will attempt to tag the other
bots, while avoiding getting tagged themselves. A frenetic, fast paced event where presence
on mind, teamwork, and tactical play will be rewarded. So step into the arena, and see if
your fingers can work as fast as your mind

Rules

their own

Hercu-Lift

Named after the legendary Hercules, this event is about lifting and transporting objects. An
additional crane arm must be added to a level 1 robot with an electromagnet at one end,
and a motor at the other. The electromagnet must be capable of lifting a weight of upto
60g. The goal of the event is to collect and stack soft iron pieces in the fastest time, so the
key is to find the ideal rpm for the crane motor.

Rules

 Robot specifications are the same as that for level 1 robots.


 Length of the crane arm must be between 8 and 12 inches.
 A single power supply of 12V, 2 Amps will be provided for the robot,crane and
electromagnet
 The electromagnet should be able to pick up and release,both.

Bridge the Gap

The object of this event is to make a well engineered bridge that can sustain progressively
increasing loads
Rules

 Only white glue can be used. NO OTHER ADHESIVES ARE ALLOWED.


 The dimensions for the bridge are as follows: Minimum bridge span(Distance
between two tables)=60 cm. Maximum number of sticks= 200
 The load to the bridge would be applied at the bottom of the bridge, at its
centre. The load would be increased progressively.
 Participants are expected to build their bridges at home and bring them on the
day of the event.
 THE BRIDGE MUST BE A TRUSS TYPE BRIDGE i.e. all support
framework should be above the bridge (the bridge should not have pillars at
the bottom)
 The bridge should be able to stand on its own.
 Before the start of the competition, all bridges would be examined. If they do
not satisfy the required criteria, certain time would be given for modifications.
 If it still does not satisfy the required criteria, it may result in disqualification.

Level 1 Robotics
PRAXIS 2010 consists of 6 different L-I events which test the robot in all possible ways.
Every contestant who wishes to participate must abide by the following rules, the violation
of which will lead to instant disqualification.

Rules

 The specifications (RPM) of the motors will be recorded. You are allowed to
change the motors ONLY in case of failure and it must be of the same
specifications as before. The failed motor must be shown to the organizers
before replacing them.
 You can add extensions to your robot. However, the chassis or the basic
assembly must remain same.
 Rules and Regulations are subject to prior change. The website will keep you
updated on any changes in the rules

LEVEL2 Robotics

This is a wireless robotics event. The objective is to finish the track in the fastest time
possible. Each player would be given two attempts at the track. No practice, no trials. The
best of the two lap times would be considered for the final listing. For Finals fixtures will be
prepared and robots will be raced against each other.

 Each team shall be formed by up to 6 students (not necessarily from the same
college)
 Length of the crane arm must be between 8 and 12 inches.
 Size regulation is set at 25cm (l) x 25cm (b) x 21cm (h) at the start.
 Use of pre-fabricated construction sets such as LEGO or Mechano are strictly
prohibited.
 Intervention of any sort is disallowed during the game play. Only the operators
of the robots will be allowed inside the cordoned area during game play.
 Eliminations on 28th September and Finals on 29th September.

Level 3 Robotics

The goal is to follow the IR sensors on the track and REMEMBER THE PATH, so as to
retrace it later.

Rules

 The match will be played by only 1 player for a total of 3 minutes.


 Eliminations will be held prior to the contest.
 Seeding will be decided on the basis of timing
 There will be no obstacles placed on the track.
 Each team will be given a retry which can be called under any circumstances
by the team
 For a retry, the robot will be placed in the starting grid. There will be no
stoppage of time in a retry
 A practice time of ONLY 3 minutes will be provided before the start of the
game and it will be provided only ONCE.
 Practice on 27th September 2010. Finals on 28th September 2010

Open Software

The open software contest showcases a number of applications, tools and ideas that scan a
wide spectrum of interest areas, ranging from data security to image processing, from
media applications to tools and utilities

Rules

 Maximum members is 3 .This event is free. Only students pursuing an


undergraduate/post-graduate course are eligible for the competition.
 Selected teams will get strictly 1 hour for loading and testing of their software.
 Every team has to register online at our website for the competition.
 Synopsis has to be sent to us at tac@praxis-vesit.com, detailing the idea behind
the potential software to be developed.
 In case the participants fail to submit the synopsis by 25th September 2010,

SupremaC

The Suprema-C programming contest brings the best coders together competing in an
intellectually stimulating environment. Participants have to develop optimal codes that
work, are bug free and draw on efficient algorithms

completeness of problems, efficiency of coding, approach taken etc.

website will bode well for any organization. Here is a test of your skills. Given a theme on
the spot, implement your own website in a limited period of time, with the given resources!
All teams are allowed to use only a predetermined number of softwares like Photoshop,
Corel Draw, Front Page, DreamWeaver and Paint.

Naked Egg Drop

Each contestant must design and build a container that can hold 1 egg and prevent the egg
from breaking, when dropped from increasing heights.

For all the hardware freaks, LiveWire is an on-the-spot hardware contest which will test
how good you are at thinking on your toes and getting those confounded circuits to work

Rules

 The eliminations will be held on 28th September, 2010, consisting of MCQs


based on basic analog and digital electronics.

 Finalists will be chosen on the basis of the eliminations.

NetworKing

NetworKing aims at testing the computer networking skills of the participants. In essence
the event will involve a basic LAN setup, demonstrating successful communication between
nodes on the network and carrying out a variety of tasks that are related to resource
sharing.

Rules

 Teams of 3 (intercollegiate teams allowed). Participants can be a part of only 1


team.
 Round 1 (Eliminations round): Half hour paper based elimination will be
conducted where questions related to computer networks will be asked. There
will be in all 50 questions; all MCQs.
 Round 2 (Practical Round): In this round, the teams will be given a set of
computers and will be asked to connect them in a Local Area Network (LAN).
Additional tasks may include those relating to Bluetooth or Wi-Fi

Circuit Work It

Circuit work-it is an open hardware contest which compels your brain cells to do some real
sorting. Come up with hardware systems with commercial and industrial applications.
Rules

 The gadget/application/machine should not have been used commercially.
 Readymade projects such as readymade PCBs will not be accepted.
 A synopsis of maximum 2 A-4 sheets is to be mailed before to tac@praxis-
core.com based on which the finalists will be selected and notified.
 Finalists will be required to give a presentation not exceeding 5 minutes, in
support of their project. After this, teams will be given 2 minutes to
demonstrate their project and 3 minutes for a question and answer session.

solve a problem or has a demand in industry. It could be an entire system or part thereof.
Just think it up and we’ll give you the platform to express yourself.

Rules

 Teams of no more than 4 members, not necessarily of the same college.


 For the 1st round, teams will have to send us a project report , the details of
which will be put up on the website.
 Teams selected for the finals will be required to give a PowerPoint presentation
on their report, not exceeding 5 minutes.
 Following the presentation, there will be 3 minutes of question and answer
round.
 All members need not give the presentation but the whole team must be
present for the question and answer round.

Papyrus
In paper presentation, participants are required to submit a paper that is based on
research, experimental analysis or systematic investigations.

Rules

 Teams should consist of at most 3 members.


 Testing for plagiarism will be done. Only the papers clearing these tests will be
considered for further evaluation.
 Paper should be of maximum 12 pages in standard IEEE format (two column
format with font size 12) and synopsis of at most 500 words in the same
template.
 The final presentation will be done with multimedia and projector using
PowerPoint. Team members may present the paper in rotation.
 3 hard copies are to be given to the praxis publicity team. A soft copy is to be
mailed to papyrus@praxis-vesit.com.

Swat The Bug

AI. wars test your coding skills to simulate an artificial learning environment. Teams are
expected to code their own bugs on the sample codes provided and these codes will battle it
out in an A.I. environment.

Gladiator

This event tests the power and maneuverability of the robot which are essential for its
survival. This one is for the man rather than the machine and tests the controller’s mastery
over the controls while the robots go head to head to put the opponents out of the ring. The
aim is to create a robot whose sole purpose is to push, throw, flip, drag or otherwise move
the opponent out of the ring within the prescribed time

Rules

 Each team shall be formed by up to 6 students (not necessarily from the same
college).
 Size regulation is set at 27cm x 27cm x 27cm. Weight limit is set at 3kg. Robot
dimensions may not exceed these at any instant during the game play.
 Use of ANY pre-fabricated construction sets is ALLOWED
 Eliminations are on 28th September from 11a.m onwards.
