Function – a relation in which every element in the domain

corresponds to one and and only on element.

Types of Functions:

1. Linear Function
2. Identity Function
3. Constant Function
4. Quadratic Function
5. Polynomial Function
6. Absolute Value Function

Let f(x) and g(x) be functions:

(𝑓 + 𝑔)(𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑥) + 𝑔(𝑥)

(𝑓 − 𝑔)(𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑥) − 𝑔(𝑥)

(𝑓𝑔)(𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑥) ∙ 𝑔(𝑥)

𝑓 𝑓(𝑥)
( ) (𝑥) = ; 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑔(𝑥) ≠ 0
𝑔 𝑔(𝑥)

𝑓 𝑜 𝑔 (𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑔(𝑥))

𝑔 𝑜 𝑓 (𝑥) = 𝑔(𝑓(𝑥))

Given a function, say f(x), to find the inverse of the function, we

first change f(x) to y. Next, we change all x to y and y to x. and
then we solve for y. The obtained solution for y is the inverse of
the original function.

The exponential function is one of the most

important functions in mathematics (though it would have to
admit that the linear function ranks even higher in importance).
To form an exponential function, we let the independent
variable be the exponent.

If f(x) = xy, the f(x) = ky, where K R

eg.:

f(x) = x2 – 3

f(-1) = (-1)2 – 3

f(-1) = 1 – 3

f(x) = -2

Laws of Logarithms

 Logb MN = Logb M + Logb N

 Logb M/N = Logb M - Logb N
 Logb M = Logb N if and only if M = N
 Logb Mk = k Logb M
 Logb b = 1
 Logb 1 = 0
 Logb bk = k
 bLogb x = x

First quarter was mostly all about functions. I don’t really have a
problem with functions but there were problems that were a little
difficult. My background with functions is not really broad yet I felt
that it was explained well because I thought that I would have a
difficult time with the whole quarter yet I still managed to cope up.

My favorite lesson was the composite functions. This lesson is my

favorite because it was easy to understand. You just had to
substitute values and solve it.

Second quarter was all about business math. Business math

used to be my favorite subject so I took it easy. But as the
reports progressed I had difficulty in recalling it. I don’t know if it
was just me or it was the fact that the classroom wasn’t really at
peace. It was difficult for me this second quarter. To be honest, I
don’t like reporting because sometimes the reporters don’t know
what their saying or the classroom is not in order most of the
time.

Interest was my favorite lesson. Interest has been stuck with me

ever since the 7th grade. Whenever I think about business math, I
always think of the formula of interest.
